Hey there! We are looking for that dink...I think. Where did you buy it? Also, do you know if it requires a long-shaft? Best, Nick
@SaltyEscape5 жыл бұрын
The O'Kelly's Hi guys, we’ve been following you! We bought it at Inland Waterway Provision Company in Oriental NC. They just received their shipment from Highfield and they have 2-3 340 classics left. We think they also have the 310 and 360 as well. They were able to get us a good deal on the outboard also. If you call them, talk to Pat! He was amazing! He called and emailed us multiple times to keep us informed as they were in transit from the factory. Corey

The O'Kelly's oh, short shaft, but it does come in a long shaft option... we think.

I use to live in Alaska and had a Zodiac Futura with a 50 motor on it....This Highfield is the dingy I would get and it looks great. Right now we full-time with a Class C rv and toad...the problem with a RIB is how to take it with us....So i will have to look for a roll-up...cheers...

"Tula's endless summer" (KZbin Channel) just posted a video about an inflatable Highfield that will completely deflate and can be carried like a back pack. They were needing one for this Trimaran they are playing with. It has an inflatable floor that becomes very firm much like an inflatable pattle board. I hope this helps! Corey

Awesome! Your getting there. That’s the kind of dingy I would like to get for when or if we flood again.

It would work great for flood prep!

Hows the Highfield holding up ??

It’s great! It’s a little hard to keep clean… We’re going to make chaps for it. We chose hypalon which should last longer than PVC.
@chatteyj Жыл бұрын
@@SaltyEscape Is there much price difference between pvc and hypalon and also whats the top speed you can achieve with the 20hp? Thanks.
@SaltyEscape Жыл бұрын
Yes, Hypalon is a bit more expensive but holds up longer to UV exposure. We don’t have a way to measure our speed on the RIB. I can tell you, it’s FAST. We’re in the Bahamas and we can out run all of our friends on similar sized tenders with similar engines.

I was a bit disappointed. A lot of sailing channels discuss their dinghy & various upgrades. I was hoping to hear an expounding on why you bought the dinghy you bought: size, price, features, etc. compared to other options / manufacturers. Or is the reason no one talks about it is because there are no other options / manufacturers? I haven't started looking for one (yet), but it'd be interesting to hear your breakdown of the dinghy selection process, esp since you bought NEW vs Used.
@SaltyEscape2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tesla, sorry to disappoint. We were/are new to this also, so we didn’t feel qualified to talk specs. We did make another video where we discussed the dinghy… I’ll link it here but I don’t think we went into the kind of detail you were hoping for. Thanks for commenting! @@SaltyEscape I guess I was disappointed because of how thoroughly you go through that level of thinking in your later videos. I might've been expecting that maturity without taking time into consideration. I can jump months in minutes. You're in the day-to-day slog.

No worries…. We all improve with time. Hope you stick around.

The life expectancy of a inflatable dinghy is about 10 years at best. Hypalon is a little better then PVC. We bought a new dinghy before we bought the sailboat because we knew there was a strong chance That the included dinghy with the sale of a boat would not be ideal for our family. Also we wanted to use it for other adventures before we bought the sailboat. We chose aluminum because it is lighter than fiberglass and has a longer life expectancy than fiberglass. We thought a lot about outboards. We went with Tohatsu because we learned they were made by the same factory that produces mercury, the cost was cheaper and the reviews were excellent. So far we’ve been very happy with our outboard. We bought the dinghy before C19 so prices are vastly different now. Highfield seems to be one of the leaders in the market and we wanted to buy a good product that we wouldn’t be disappointed with later. Hope this helps

@@SaltyEscape Why inflatable?
@seabournewolf22983 жыл бұрын
Don’t lock the engine down so it can kick up if you run over something and it’s less likely to break your engine. Keep in mind though if you do that when reversing the engine it will try to kick up
@SaltyEscape3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This makes sense. Cheers- Corey

I lived in the Amazon 2 years and that’s how we did it there and I ran over a lot of submerged logs. Never seen anyone run a motor like that here though
@SaltyEscape3 жыл бұрын
I’ll look at it to figure out how to unlock it. I know it’s hinged to trim it up and down. There is a rod that you can move to different positions for it to rest on for the trimming. I think it has a lever to lock it.

Hi! I don’t have any equipment to test the speed yet. I can tell you it moves very fast with all four of us! I’ll at least get some video of it at full speed in the next few weeks. Stay tuned 😉
