Although I was raised Catholic, I stopped going to Mass at 13. Then spent most of my life (I’m 71) denying the existence of God. I bought into the 60’s culture dogma that feeling good was all that mattered. And I learned the hard way, that that is a sure path to destruction. After severe drug addiction, followed by a suicide attempt, I continued to believe I could do it on my own - essentially being my own god. It was a disaster!! My life went even more to hell and I struggled against depression for years. Finally just a few months ago, I was given the Hallow app - just to do the daily quiz with my friend. After a while I started to look around the Hallow app, not seriously, but I let down my guard just a tiny bit - and suddenly the grace of God hit me like a tsunami. I was horrified by my extremely sinful past and knew my sins helped put Jesus on that cross. I went to confession the next day (a very long confession with a wonderfully understanding and kind priest). I haven’t looked back since. I’ve never been happier and more at peace.

Have you engaged with any protestant apologetics/critiques of roman catholicism? Just curious because a lot of people will return to what they were raised with without fully considering the position of that church or the perspectives of other Christian traditions :)

@@buzzingedge5362 My wife was raised catholic like @ElaineEC, she also rebelled against it as her mother never let her miss a mass. When I met her, and eventually shared the true gospel, she couldn't believe the difference between what she was taught and what the Word of God actually says when not obscured by the Latin language or cancelled for church 'tradition'. Prayers for Elaine that God would show her His true Word.

I spent 14 years as a devout Bible reading Evangelical Protestant but the last 3 years as a Convert to Catholicism have been the happiest and most fulfilling of my Christian life! I understand now why the devil attacks Catholicism so viciously! He knows where the *True* POWER is! Scott Hahn's conversion story of his stunning discovery of the Truth of Catholicism whole Studying COVENANT theology is what first opened my eyes then there was no going back! I pray for the unity of all Christians everywhere but I would never even consider being anything but Catholic now. Also love the Greek Orthodox liturgy. GOD being worshipped like a KING as demonstrated in Revelation and Isaiah. JESUS front and center in The Eucharist. I have never loved Church like I do as a Catholic. It's like a true homecoming and many if my fellow converts and even Jewish converts describe the same sense of fullness in homecoming even if they first passed through the Protestant denominations before finally arriving to the Church of The full Communion of the Saints🙏🙏🏽🙏🏼🙏🏻🙏🏿✝️💖

I had a dream like this. I was agnostic and I got saved in a dream. When I woke up I knew the bible was true and god was real even before knowing what it says, it was unexplainable. I often wonder why did this happen to me or to someone like Eric, I'm not really sure. I was not a good person at all but I wanted god to be real and I had a humble heart towards god even though I wasn't sure he existed. I used to pray and without feeling anything, just hoping god existed and would hear me. Out of nowhere he responded with this vivid dream that changed my life.

@@flashwashington2735 over and over again Jesus used story to bring people into understanding. That’s why someone who has been transformed by Jesus and the Holy Spirit, but is ignorant of scripture, can still save people. Did the woman at the well use scripture to get people to come out and meet Jesus? No. She shared her testimony and everyone came to see what she was talking about. Of course I agree, knowledge of the Word is critical, but testimony is personal and people resonate with that.

@@room2growrose623 What about those it doesn't resonate with. And if you want to grow in Christ you'll need more than testimony. I never spoke against testimony. But posting it on you tube about Jordan Peterson brings people to Christ. How? I like Peterson's testimony, but with the access he has to testimonies and scripture he's still unsaved. The word is first and more foundational. That's what I said. That is what I mean. That is my testimony. God bless.

@@room2growrose623John 4:40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his own word; 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. They themselves state it was not her testimony. Her excitement and enthusiasm woke them up. This woman already knew alot of scripture before Christ came to her. You realize testimony may be outside of scripture, is phenomena. May be Satan's testimony appearing real. May even corrupt people devoid of correct teaching. How many thousands of times do people share their witnessed testimony? How few are posted in the bible given to us as adequate to know all matters of life and godliness? Why are the few included? What was God saying? Take the testimonies and teachings of snake handling. God's word is truth and life and love. Show me the exultation of testimony in the bible, chapter and verse please. I will show you chapter and verse what Luther stated. Sola scriptura. You can't save anyone without the word. Testimony in KZbin comments refers men to whom? It doesn't tell anyone where to go to get the information.

He showed me (an engineer) all the wonderful things He had made - a vision of all the women/girls I had loved. I didn't sleep for two days after that! It was very very powerful imagery. You think you're smart - look what I made? I wasn't expecting that but I was wondering how you open your heart to God. The words, perhaps, that were tailor-made for Jordan Peterson. The perfectly teed-up question, "Why Did You Become a Christian?" (A priceless opportunity to share the Gospel). A question posed by a psychologist, waiting for answers regarding a dream. JP has been searching, and so close to salvation. I know this was another "pebble in his shoe," so to speak, on his way to following Christ. No, not a coincidence. I had a dream about an earthquake on the New Madrid fault 2 years ago. This past week, I was praying about it and a friend sent me, out of the blue a couple of hours later, a video about such a quake. I wondered that day if the Lord would confirm the dream (by hearing the name Shelby because in the dream it is MEMPHIS in SHELBY County that is hit hardest). I drove to mail a letter that evening and on the way home, the host of a talk show (had the radio on for 5 minutes) mentioned the name Carroll Shelby (I didn't know who that was). The next night I was channel surfing on TV and stopped on a movie, saw a man's hand with his finger pointing to an entry on a piece of paper. The entry he pointed to was 1967 Shelby GT500. I started watching the Chiefs' game, but flipped back to that movie a couple of times. The 2nd time I did, I found out the character's nickname was MEMPHIS.

@@elroussa but he never says if he’s a Christian or that he has a relationship with Christ. I know someone who asked him & he said he didn’t feel comfortable with the question.

I would love to answer the question, too. I became a Christian because one night in a swimming pool locker room I cried out to what was only the Void, whatever was behind the Curtain, whatever might be in the transendent that might know me, as I did not know it. I addressed it as if it were a person, and said "Please reveal yourself to me, whatever you are, as you might be responsible for my life. Even if you are evil. Better that this rotting soul be attached, brought home to what is real, and true, than this nothing ness, this arbitrary rotting nothingness." Then I forgot that I said such a thing. A few months later, after I had left home for college, the Holy Spirit came to me. First, I could not stop smiling. There was something new in my eyes when I looked in the dorm mirror. A presence had come. I could invite him to stay or not. I said, "Okay, yes, what is there to lose?" A minute or two later, maybe ten or twenty, I would be recalled back, and 'it' was still there. I would say Yes again. (I fully felt all my freedom in this! As never before!) Then a change of scene, going to class, a few hours pass, it is still there. Somewhere in here, maybe from the beginning, I realize it was a He, a Person, and not "it". (It was the nature of this interaction that instructed me from that point on just what a Person was, in the big metaphysical sense.) I began to realize with more assurance, after a few days, that He, the new presence, was not going to leave me unless I rescinded my invitation. But I was not about to do that! It took a full two weeks to get the point where I understood that this was the Christian God, that I had become a Christian, that there were other Christians out there along this same line, and somewhere in all that, the place where Jesus, sin, and the Cross entered the picture. It's a good, good story! How I love to tell it!

why are the churches around you in India dying?
@rachelsupermanuel
@rachelsupermanuel Жыл бұрын
@wallabea9750 though there are rare gems, led by rare pastors (who sacrifice their own selves & families for the sake of Christ).. but the majority I have observed are dying due to compromise. Compromising the truth for society, actually for the tithes, all for the money cuz they gotta run their establishments and their own homes and send their kids to good schools, travel well, eat good food & all th other things the world runs after.. I know of many pastors secretly investing in real estate, not for the furtherance of the gospel but for their own comfort & profit. India is a huge & diverse region with varied issues in different regions. I live, interact & travel broadly out here so I see when pastors neglect the real spiritual need of their sheep for their own sake. It hurts me because they are in a position where they can do so much for the Lord in full genuineness & therefore lead the lost sheep closer to the heart of our Lord & into freedom from societal chains, hypocrisy, spiritual blindness. True Christianity is far from all the potluck brunches, youth fellowships and all other shallow excuses masking genuine faith. Big city churches & local indigenous churches/pastors suffer from almost the same problem of greed due to self servitude.

Two of the greatest minds of our time. I’ve seen on social media that Jordan has questioned faith and that he appears to be searching. My prayer for him is found in the book of Acts 26:18 open his eyes and turn him from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that he may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are 0:09 sanctified by faith in Christ, Jesus. I love you, Jordan.

That's a very interesting discussion to have with Dr Peterson in light of the dream he had about Christ: All the great conquerors and tyrants of the past rose from their graves and started fighting until Christ Himself rose and then they all stopped fighting and bowed their knee to Him. His philosophical take away was that even kings need someone to submit to. I think he missed the opportunity Eric had to simply acknowledge Christ as Lord of all creation.
@ReLair88
@ReLair88 Жыл бұрын
So what you're saying is...I didn't get saved through a dream...my theology does not allow for people to be saved through dreams as supernatural dreams passed away...the only way to witness to someone is to state that Jesus is Lord...and that's that. As if Peterson never heard that before. (And Peterson asked for Eric to tell his personal experience of salvation, which question, I believe, was orchestrated by the Lord.)
