I’m Australian, and I feel as exasperated and deeply hurt as Americans by the actions of this pontificate. Why are we treated like unwanted stepchildren ? No one can understand why the TLM is being attacked so mercilessly…there is room for everyone in our Church these days…or so we are told…Transgenders, the LGBTQ rainbow, prelates and clergy who refuse to follow Catholic teaching on morality..they are all accepted…”Everyone, everyone , everyone !! “ …But if a faithful community of Catholics want to attend a TLM in their diocesan churches they are turfed out on the street as though they were vandals. Thank God for you, Dr Taylor Marshall and bless you for keeping many of us informed about what is really happening in Rome.

There’s an old saying in the Catholic Church in Rome. “There’s not a single problem in the church that a few good funerals won’t take care of.” I believe that every pope is elected for a reason. When that purpose is served, he dies, and we make a new one. È morto un Papa si fa un altro. What is needed is trust in the Lord and perseverance.

When the scandal initially broke...and then broke again because it was never cleaned up...I felt betrayed. Now, I feel abandoned. The Church that is so into "listening" will not listen nor care for its faithful. Conservative, American Catholics have been faithful and supportive and obedient. In return, we get kicked in the teeth and ridiculed. Christ ate with sinners, but He told them to sin no more. He came for the broken, but He healed them. He was very popular among the masses, but He said that those who hear and obey His commands are His family. Heretics, heathens, and pedophiles need Jesus, not recognition. The truly faithful who are waiting with oil filled lamps need Jesus, we also need the Church to pastor us. We need "fathers" who are caring. The modern Catholic Church is the only organized religion that puts its most faithful followers down, while raising up those who condemn, scoff, or blaspheme it. Jesus wept!

Cardinal DiNardo's full statement on August 1, 2018 (prior to Vigano’s 11-page letter on Aug. 25, 2018. Strickland made his statement right after Vigano’s letter): "The accusations against Archbishop Theodore McCarrick reveal a grievous moral failure within the Church. They cause bishops anger, sadness, and shame; I know they do in me. They compel bishops to ask, as I do, what more could have been done to protect the People of God. Both the abuses themselves, and the fact that they have remained undisclosed for decades, have caused great harm to people's lives and represent grave moral failures of judgement on the part of Church leaders. These failures raise serious questions. Why weren't these allegations of sins against chastity and human dignity disclosed when they were first brought to Church officials? Why wasn't this egregious situation addressed decades sooner and with justice? What must our seminaries do to protect the freedom to discern a priestly vocation without being subject to misuse of power? Archbishop McCarrick will rightly face the judgement of a canonical process at the Holy See regarding the allegations against him, but there are also steps we should be taking as the Church here in the United States. Having prayed about this, I have convened the USCCB Executive Committee. This meeting was the first of many among bishops that will extend into our Administrative Committee meeting in September and our General Assembly in November. All of these discussions will be oriented toward discerning the right course of action for the USCCB. This work will take some time but allow me to stress these four points immediately. First, I encourage my brother bishops as they stand ready in our local dioceses to respond with compassion and justice to anyone who has been sexually abused or harassed by anyone in the Church. We should do whatever we can to accompany them. Second, I would urge anyone who has experienced sexual assault or harassment by anyone in the Church to come forward. Where the incident may rise to the level of a crime, please also contact local law enforcement. Third, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will pursue the many questions surrounding Archbishop McCarrick's conduct to the full extent of its authority; and where that authority finds its limits, the Conference will advocate with those who do have the authority. One way or the other, we are determined to find the truth in this matter. Finally, we bishops recognize that a spiritual conversion is needed as we seek to restore the right relationship among us and with the Lord. Our Church is suffering from a crisis of sexual morality. The way forward must involve learning from past sins. Let us pray for God's wisdom and strength for renewal as we follow St. Paul's instruction: 'Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect' (Romans 12:2)."

Statement by Bishop McElroy about 'testimony' from former Papal nuncio -- Aug. 27, 2018 In response to a letter published on Aug. 25 by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the former Papal representative to the United States, San Diego Bishop Robert McElroy has released the following statement: This is a moment when the bishops of our nation, in union with the Holy Father, should be focused solely on comprehensively revealing the truth about the patterns of the sexual abuse of minors and vulnerable adults by clergy in our Church, so that deep reform can be enacted. Unfortunately, in recent weeks ideological warriors within the Church on both sides of the spectrum have utilized the tragedy of victims of abuse to promote their goals. The dedication to comprehensive truth has been subordinated to selective targeting of enemies and tendentious distortions of the truth. Archbishop Vigano's statement constitutes just such a distortion. It is not an attempt to comprehensively convey the truth. In its ideologically-driven selection of bishops who are attacked, in its clear efforts to settle old personal scores, in its omission of any reference to Archbishop Vigano's own massive personal participation in the covering up of sexual abuse by bishops, and most profoundly in its hatred for Pope Francis and all that he has taught, Archbishop Viganò consistently subordinates the pursuit of comprehensive truth to partisanship, division and distortion. We as bishops cannot allow the pathway of partisanship to divide us or to divert us from the searing mission that Christ calls us to at this moment. We must make public our sinful past. We must engage and help heal the survivors of abuse. We must develop new, lay-governed instruments of oversight and investigation in every element of how we confront sexual abuse by clergy at all levels in the life of the Church. And we must reject all attempts to subordinate these goals to ideological or personal projects. For if we do not, we will have betrayed the victims of abuse once again."

We have outsized power in our hands if only we are willing to acknowledge it and use it. It's nature is limited but keep in mind without the money from Collections and estate gifts the church will start dwindling resources rapidly especially at the parish and the Diocesan level if we start refusing to give money to Bishops fundraiser appeal as well as regular collection and only supporting church needs directly by paying for them collectively directly rather than putting it in the collection plate, utility bill comes due have a few members of the church gather up cash from the parishioners and pay it building note comes due same thing but every time the Diocesan fundraiser appeal comes along the cchd Rice Bowl campaign comes along, Peter's Pence comes along give them a big freaking goose egg perhaps including a letter saying why, that we are cutting them off financially until they stop persecuting good priests and Bishops while promoting bad ones and stop suppressing the traditional Latin Mass. Yes we indeed have outsized power if only we are willing to use it. Many Catholics I fear much like many evangelicals use prayer as an excuse to be lazy, it's time we pray as if it all depends on God, but step up and act as if it all depends on us!!! Obviously Catholics are not afraid of the Catacombs if we are forced in them but before we are consigned to the catacombs we should stand and fight the usurpers in the church and the monsters that are trying to take away the mass fight them in a language they understand money money money money money MONEY money money money money MONEY* Furthermore since the church does get a lot of money from the government for its various works start lobbying Congress to cut its funding for Catholic Charities and CCHD, especially with the crimes that those Charities are suborning regarding the demographic future of our country. Trust me you start doing that and the priests and Bishops will start screaming to Rome to stop suppressing the traditional Latin Mass *apologies to the O'Jays, and you didn't read that, you sang it.

As a Native American what he’s done is a slap to everyone abused directly or by proxy Vigano was the only voice I’ve heard be truthful about it and now this 😢

The Pope needs to be reminded of the Golden Rule. " He who has the gold, makes the rules. " American Catholics have the gold, so it's time for the American church to " Grow a pair ! "

It would be virtually impossible to get a A worse Pope than Francis... It woud basically mean the END OF THE CHURCH 🙏

I must say, as a non-Catholic interested in learning more and potentially becoming one, Pope Francis' words and actions are a series of serious red flags that repel me from the RCC. I see many beautiful churches in my country, but the mass performed inside of them is shallow, trite garbage - weak feel-good homilies and music that sounds like a kindergarten sing-along. Even in more "reverent" parishes, the glorious high altar that inspires me to lift my heart up to God is defaced with an ugly table parked in front of it, where the priest stands with a microphone and keeps all eyes down here. Scripture and prayers are read by frumpy church ladies, who also distribute the Eucharist like handing out crackers. All the promise of transcendent beauty communicated through the architecture - and through the words of past saints and popes - feels like false advertising if THIS is what the Catholic Church actually is. I read Pope Leo XIII and then compare it to the on-the-ground situation in my country, it makes me despair that the Church which he described in his encyclicals simply no longer exists.

Yes, we're all of us "just saying" because this conversation is inclusive but, in all honesty, can you recognise that at the close of the Age, many of you "just may be" stuck rigid in a tableau within the wrong vignette?

Valuing tradition isnt rigid. Sadly Francis is a devoted progressive. Look into his love for the "charismatic" movement and its origins. He spent a lot of time with them. He is for all and intents an anti pope

Look I do feel lost as a Catholic! Having been remarried for the past 35 years after having my previous marriage annulled by the church only to be told my wife will have to have an annulment because she was married once before and she is not Catholic. I am also a mason for over 49 years and being told I am excommunicated because I belong to a charitable organization that doesn’t discriminate! I wanted to have my marriage blessed after my annulment but that will not happen. I pray the Missal everyday and I mean very day and recite the Latin because that is how I was raised and also trained as an altar boy! I am lost!

Protestant Church was recognized by Rome Catholic Church as a brother in faith, namely the CHURCH OF CHRIST, not heresy (KV2 ) ... IF the anathema against M. Luther was heresy, of course Rome Catholic Church would refuse to recognize M. Luther / Protestan as a brother in faith because it deviated from the truth of the Bible, on the other hand, if the anathema because it was not in accordance with the rules of the Rome Catholic Church , but still in accordance with the truth of the Bible, then Rome Catholic Church would still recognize Protestan as a brother in the faith (Church of Christ). ... which one is correct? Different Cases from Arius - Jehovah's Witness / Sabelius - Pentecostal Oneness who was anathema because against the Bible (rejecting Trinitarian God) so They was not recognized as a brother in the faith / not the Church of Christ. I see that Bishop Vigano's case is similar to Martin Luther's case, he was excommunicated/ heresy just for going against GKR rules ??

Classic tactic is to silence those most vocal about scandalous affairs that way it's easier to brush the issues under a rug and conveniently forget about it. I visited the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica and even though I was awed by the beauty of its architecture and its sculptures I felt ZERO spiritual connection to the place or from the place. All I saw was that it was a major tourist attraction making lots and lots of money.

My goodness, Dr. Marshall; of course he and his supporters understand. This is their directive for their goal. Seriously, you are not this naive. Seventy-one years living on God’s good earth, I’ve experienced much in Holy Mother Church. If you think they care about our wounds, you need to revisit “The Passion of Christ.”

Dunno, Dr. if this analogy will prove useful to you, or your listeners -- prob'ly not the Bishop of Rome. Okay. The novus ordo is like a tattoo, or a painted nail manicure. We don't have the same approach to the altar, w/the principal celebrant, the Introibo ad altare Dei. The tabernacle may still be central to the altar, may not. Our priest isn't addressing his intercessory prayer to the Deity of the Blessed Sacrament in repose -- he's selling us the new order tattoo, or nail job. We're suspended to the priest's presence, his take, his congeniality or discomfort, his life's story, his formation as a tattoo artist, or manicurist. How does this NOT result in disastrous intimate abuse. It's ALREADY abuse -- from the get-go. Clerical authority worship, admiration, personal attraction -- or, a distinct spiritual dissatisfaction, w/no recourse. Beat up? Throttled? Mos def abused.
