I agree 100% whenever they swing their light sabers fast. You can see a weird effect happen and then you know it’s not a real Lightsaber and it’s a prop. That’s the whole point of CGI is you’re supposed to make it look like a plasma blade, not a plastic toy.

The worst part is Disney ripped off Ryan vs Dorkman's VFX idea with the Force FX lightsabers for reflections and additional light, but then they failed that work pipeline by only using those kinds of sabers, where RvD's guys understood the importance of using the non FX sabers for the combat, and using Force FX props only for the shots that would benefit from it. Disney is full of a short-cut taking amateurs.

Bottom line: Disney doesn't understand lightsabers.

The main thing is they lost their glow from the rotoscoping. The ones they use now cast realistic light on the rest of the scene but the blade is the exact width of the handle and without the aura that went beyond the width of the handle, it doesn't feel like an energy beam anymore, it just feels like they're swinging a florescent bulb

Something that bugs me is that Disney puts nearly all of its lightsaber battles in the dark to show off the glowing effect. Ironically, the fight between Sol and Qimir in The Acolyte might be the best one they've done, and it was in daylight.

The Disney+ sabers definitely look off, & i think the glow is way too overdone in the Obi-Wan show, but ngl I really like how it looks in TFA. Also bro how can you defend the AOTC fight lol, it's easily the worst looking duel in any of the films

I think the Phantom Menace has the most well-balanced effects. If you watch the behind-the-scenes, it’s quite impressive. The lightsabers don’t look too cgi, but the best effect in the movie is the pyrotechnics for the Consular Corvette explosion.

disney just can't help themselves from ruining everything about Star Wars... this is The Revenge of The Maker... hope all the prequel haters are happy... George let them destroy it because you ungrateful urchins couldn't leave well enough alone... so he sold it to the worst company on the planet and now wipes his butt and blows his nose with hundred dollar bills... and he's laughing at the whole mess... but he knows who the true fans are... we're out here Mr Lucas... and we'll always hold Episodes 1-6, The Clone Wars micro series, The first 6 seasons of The Clone Wars animated series, and The Expanded Universe close to our hearts...💙

I swear for many shots they don't even add any VFX. They think the LED prop looks good enough on camera. I like that cast they light on the surroundings but you can do all that with CGI; you don't even need the practical LED.

I agree. The blue lightsabers are way too dark so it’s like an unnatural glow

Nah, ROTS had way better looking Lightsabers than Disney in terms of color grading. And they actually feel like plasma energy blades rather than glow sticks.

@@dereklopez9060 I think attack of the clones had the best looking ones. Not anything Disney put out. I will say tho that the lightsabers in Ahsoka looked amazing. They were thin just like the prequels and they didn’t give off too much light.
