Don't worry. The feeling is mutual. We don't have to like each other. Let's keep the relationship strictly business.

@@bgmsensei4918 Exactly... Koreans and Chinese have good reason to dislike Japan as far as history goes (though holding animosity in the modern day and age isn't really helpful for anyone but at least it's understandable as far as Korea's and China's animosity towards Japan goes) but Japan towards China and Korea? They have no excuse and not even a proper explanation for it.

@@bgmsensei4918 Please. Hardly anyone alive today is guilty, hardly anyone alive today is a victim. Get over it. Japanese people in their 20s, 30s and 40s were born to parents who weren't even alive during the war. Most people in Japan today who were alive during the war were children and had nothing to do with what happened. You sound almost American.

Recent generations of Chinese people grew up in extreme hardship, which explains the diminished focus on manners today. In 1980, the average Chinese citizen was poorer than most Africans, and the famine of the 1960s alone claimed almost as many lives as the entire population of Japan. This dysfunction traces back to the Cultural Revolution, which was itself a result of the KMT's defeat in the Civil War, weakened by Japan's invasion of China. Japan, like a neighbor who kicks a dog when it's weakest, can't be surprised when the dog doesn't grow up to be well-behaved. I'm not blaming modern-day Japanese for this, but there is a lot of generational trauma in China. People that went from poverty & starvation to having money within one generation are not going to value manners.

The CCP also has to encourage hatred of Japan because the CCP is responsible for a much much larger genocide of Chinese than the Japanese were and much more recently. They really need to direct all the anger away from themselves. Its such a shame though, Korea China and Japan working together could be so good for the world.

I've been told by Japanese friends and family that they talk about WWII but they don't go into great depth or self flagellation like we do in the west. Most Japanese men I've talked to are aware of the war crimes, But most women don't seem to be. I think this is just a case of men being more interested in history and war. If you visit Yasukuni Shrine there is a large museum which talks about the war from Japans perspective. Its not pro-war or "We were the good guys" its more matter of fact and goes into their reasoning for why they started it. I cant remember if it went into detail on crimes because I had to rush through the last portion. There was a bit about India though and a letter from some Indian leader thanking Japan for WWII because it helped to weaken and end European colonialism in Asia, which isn't something I've ever heard before in western media. I'd be curious what Indians think about it.

Hello Shohei , really nice to see your english improving day by day (especially your reading reading speed and your confidence while speaking english) . I do think media plays an extremely big role in shaping people's perspective on other people, what do you think about this? Me personally, I've had absolutely amazing experiences with both Chinese and Japanese Tourists, I share your idea of treating humans as individuals and not putting labels on them like products. Anyways , keep up the good work!

The reasons listed could apply to a multitude of cultures. Some could say the same about Americans or Brits. Step outside to a town square or in a subway and you can hear the loud noises of Chinese or Westerners. Conscientiousness needs to be taught and learned, but there are feelings of self entitlement that are often in the way being insecure enough to consider if you are acting in the general sense for good behavior of that community. There used to be a saying that was understood by all "Do as the Romans Do". With that said, I've seen my fair share of rude Japanese tourists too, speaking loudly, lacking self awareness, etc.

My Japanese wife was very positive towards Chinese people when I first met her. But in the decades since she's had a lot of bad experiences with Chinese people. Treating her awfully in jobs because she's Japanese, Extremely racist and nationalistic Chinese university students, Having very rude Chinese tourists shove her out of the way or push in front of her in queues, Seeing them litter and vandalize Japanese shrines etc. Despite that she still has a lot of good Chinese friends but she always says "So and so is a good Chinese" or "So and so is nice because she's not a man and Chinese men are rude" she also seems to love Taiwanese people, Hong Kongers, Japanese Chinese and Australian and New Zealand Chinese.

Hi Shohei, thanks for the candor. Habits like you described are real but they do not characterize all Chinese people. In fact, Chinese people complain about these same inconsiderate behavior of their countrymen. I dare say that in same corners of Japan, people are louder than they need to be in public but, as a Chinese who have great Japanese friends and admirer much of Japanese cultural aesthetics, I think such annoying behaviors only reflect how less worldly some Chinese visitors remain. But they will catch up. Give people a chance is my view.

100-200 years of extreme poverty, mismanagement, corruption, and foreign invasions have left generations with scarcity to grab everything they can just to survive. It's going to take a few generations of abundance and such to fix it. I hope china can be more like japan in terms collectivist actions in more areas, but the problem is they have 14x your population, which is just way too big to get everyone in line. Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore who had the same problem said it was difficult with 3 million, and can't imagine china speed running it so fast
