The worst thing is that a popular new feminist mantra here in Germany by big feminist influencers is now too "Don't be so quick to judge men you don't know, it's sexist to be prejudiced and fearful towards them without even knowing their intentions!" Not all of them outright say it like this, but it's more than implied. I mean, they still tell women to be careful, but it doesn't sit right with me how they bring forward the point of "blanket suspicion", and everyone in the comments is eating that up
@Netheraptr

I do honesty think there is a problem with “men suck” type-statements. I know the vast majority of people who say stuff like that don’t actually mean all men, but there are a minority who do, and things like that can accelerate such beliefs. Women do need to be careful and have their problems recognized, and the men who are weird do need to be called out, but it’s common for guys to be looked at with suspicion without showing any red flags. Even if you don’t personally believe all men suck, seeing people online talk about how often men as a whole are all the time can develop subconscious prejudices you might not even be aware about. To me it’s kinda the same as “women suck” jokes. In the right crowd these jokes can work if your audience knows you’re joking or exaggerating these are fine, but in the broader world where people can have very extreme opinions, you have to realize that these type of statements are often gonna be taken at face value.

What is with women who won’t split the cheque? My husband and I split the bill all the time when we were dating. I do not understand how a person can think men and women are equal, and also think it’s a man’s job to pay for everything. The really bizarre thing is that I know women who make a lot of money too! So it’s not like they can’t afford it and need a man who can provide, they just feel like it’s not their job? I dunno, it feels insanely old fashioned to me.
@TheSilverInfinity

right? it feels old fashioned to me as well. but, there are old fashioned people out there who have refused to allow me to pay for my half despite that i wanted to and had the means to. some people just value that i guess, like holding the door and or pulling out the chair. nothing wrong with being 'old fashioned' as long as both sides are in agreement over it I think. good to know up front? on the other side of the spectrum, I wouldnt be able to stand being with someone who always wanted to pay the full bill. once or twice for a special occasion maybe, but never all the time.
@sarah345

@@TheSilverInfinity I see what you’re saying but I feel like there’s a difference between old fashioned chivalry like holding a door open and paying for everything. I dunno I guess because women work now, it feels like that part is obsolete. Also it’s free to hold a door open. And even so I wouldn’t want someone to feel obligated, it takes all the romance out of it. But then again, this year I told my husband that I want him to buy me flowers on Valentine’s Day 😆 so I guess I have my own old fashioned ideas.

Some women string men along for free meals at restaurants. Ofcourse they don't want their meal ticket ruined by the expectation that she would split the bill. Also, some women are just entitled to men's money and effort. They believe in the idea that they are the prize, and men have to jump through all of these hoops to catch her. So they expect men to continue to uphold these traditional gender roles but refuse to reciprocate and perform their own stereotypical gender roles.

Tbh I don't trust men who force me to except them paying for me. 1.) Asking if I would like it can be cute but straight up ignoring what I said and going on with it makes me feel like what I want is not important to them. That if they think they are doing the right/good thing, they can force it on me. That's a red flag. 2.) If they are old fashioned in one area, there's a chance they will be old fashioned in other areas (other areas that are no longer romantic but oppressive) 3.) They might expect something in return. That's is how my friend ended up being r^ped. He ignored her plea for a split whenever he paid for her (and he always paid for her when they were togather). And when she said no to s^xual advances, he said she owned it to him after everything he did for her. That setuation scared me away from letting anyone to pay my half, for life. It's been years now and my friend is okay now. She's married and has a kid but there is one thing she always tells me, don't ever let a man pay for you.

Its not that you should depersonalize, its that you should actually make yourself be ok with being single. As in, don't attach all of your self-worth, hopes, and dreams on getting a relationship, to the point that every rejection is a knife in the heart. Let a relationship feel like a gift that would be great to have, rather than a necessity you can't live without. Just let go a little. Ironically, this attitude will make you seem like a more confident person, which is attractive, so dating will actually be easier for you emotionally AND in terms of success. Win-win.

20:50 This reminded me. One of the best ways to see how many NPCs there are is by working at an airport convenience store. Everyone thinks they are so unique but I can guarantee you we are all basically the same. Everyone complains about the same things. Responds using like the same 4 different options to my customer service scripts: There's a funny option, a basic option and a rude option and no response. Everyone asks the same questions. And after seeing hundreds of people a day like I do, you realize that there are so many similar faces that you often forget if the person that just walked up has been there before or not. Its an international airport but let me tell you everyone is the same, doesn't matter where you're from. Humans are just human. We do and need the same things at the end of the day lol. I think about that often. Of course their are things that set us apart as individuals but in an environment like this (a place that is non political, not based on any particular interests, not targeting any specific demographic) you see that at the base everyone is the same. Not a good or a bad thing, just an observation. I had a racist coworker and it kind of baffled me that she could remain that way and not see how similar everyone is. I guess she was in denial that she was just the same as them.

I think it's good that we are so similar. The world would be a much harder place if we weren't all very similar at our core. People can already be cruel, even with our similarities. Imagine how much crueler humans could be if we didn't share anything with the people around us. Empathy is already hard for a lot of people. It becomes even harder when you have nothing in common. It kinda reminds me of sting's song "Russians" about the cold war. "What might save us, me and you Is if the Russians love their children too." It's a frightening thought, that we aren't as individual as we think, but I think in the end I'm very grateful for it.

It’s kind of weird to just say “men” and then get surprised that other people don’t fill in the “some” part. Don’t support it, advocate to start saying “some” if that’s really how they feel. Thats like me going to a public space and saying “women are horrible” and then calling every woman in the room sensitive for not recognizing I mean “some” and not them specifically. It’s a normal human reaction, it’s up to the person making the statement to form it in the correct way.

I love the unserious, the goofball, the knucklehead. Hmm...I guess I put it in hopes of someone making me laugh. I also do not feel like I translate well on paper. I kind of understand what they mean by "I like to laugh". I also understand when someone says "Everyone likes to laugh" in response and I agree that it doesn't really tell you anything. I can see it another way. At least they like to laugh instead of liking to be angry and search for whatever dumb thing to be mad about. Seems like people who want/like to be mad is increasing and its usually over the dumbest thing. So, I can translate "I like to laugh" as their vibe and want to meet people with the same vibe. Problem is it's vague. What kind of laughter do they mean? Mean laughter? Laughing from an innocent joke? What kind of laughing? I wouldn't mind someone saying they like to laugh so I at least know they don't like to be angry for no reason so I can avoid them. It's not much but if you're someone who doesn't want to be around someone who just likes to be angry, that can be important to know.
@victoriah.20

You might miss out on matches this way, just because people don't state it outright "I like to laugh"... doesn't mean they're going to be the type you're describing. That takes effort and getting to know people. Plus it may even be the "I like to laugh" could be the "I don't take anything seriously" types where when you genuinely need them to be there (when grieving etc) they genuinely cannot be, since they "take nothing seriously". Balance seems key in most things.

The thing with those echo chambers as mentioned is that I recognize fully that sadly there are many men loose on the streets who are creeps and misogynists and generally uncomfortable or unsafe to be around and there should absolutely be spaces to discuss such things, at the same time on the flipside I would personally never associate with any group that demeans women as a group or jokes about it, same thing with the man vs bear thing where even if it is in jest, it baffles me that this is a discussion that generalized stereotypes like this and subconscious or conscious prejudices are allowed to be unchallenged and even celebrated. It's largely in jest with a dark touch of truth but frankly, equality is that if misogynistic jokes aren't allowed to fly, then so too should misandrist ones be frowned upon.

Dating apps are only as good as the effort you put in. Very rarely will someone come sliding in and chatting you up. And if someone does that, if you don't actively engage with them, they will move on. I experience this all the time. I reach out, write some paragraphs, ask some questions, and I get 2 sentences back if I'm lucky, and only one of my 3 questions are answered.

the "i'm a good boy" bit had me ROLLING. it also made me realize how inextricably linked toxic masculinity is with compliance-based parenting/authoritarianism. they're all connected. like OF COURSE you base your worth on how good of a person you think people perceive you as and when a woman doesn't immediately comply with your wishes you manifest your lack of emotional intelligence and self worth as a bid for approval and/or anger/aggression. i already knew that authoritarian parenting is connected to capitalism, patriarchy, and ableism but the toxic masculinity piece was a new realization...it makes sense this is why men's behavior becomes more and more ridiculous as women become more and more disapproving of their behavior. they are acting out like petulant children who were never taught to manage their emotions! 🧐
