The first person to stand up for us should be ourselves. I'm an adult. I'm bullied at work. I'm actually nice, I go through and document to my boss what was said. Once someone makes fun of me, I know longer value or care about anything else they say other than about work. People make fun of me before getting to know me. I'm not going to waste my energy trying to be their friend.

Thank you for making this. Middle school was particularly rough on me, some of the girls there could really be quite vicious towards me with their words. My passion has always been music, singing and playing piano, and I was always really enthusiastic about my passions. I sang all the time in choir and I was just starting to build up confidence to sing in front of an audience as a soloist. Besides my love of music, I was also kind of a late bloomer and was considered more naive about being a preteen than the other students, when I really felt in my mind that I was probably a bit more mature than they were at the time. Every day I got bullied even in choir, since the majority of people who took choir only took it because it was an easy A for an arts credit. That's a whole other issue, that the arts are not taken seriously anymore, but I digress. There was a "popular" group of kids that always seemed to enjoy picking on me for singing my harmonies loud when they didn't even sing at all. They laughed at me, called me very upsetting things, and made fun of the way I looked and the way I dressed. I got very discouraged and didn't want to be a soloist in choir for a while because I was afraid of what they would say about me just for doing what I love. It wasn't until high school when I joined a wonderful group of lovely, positive, goofy individuals in theatre and the upper-level choir where I could be truly accepted for being myself. Now I'm in college and I am so thankful for the opportunities I get from music and the joy it brings me, and especially thankful for the friends I have made who have supported me along the way. It gets better, it truly does.

Bullying can hurt but that should be no problem for telling them how to stop them. Tell them. Why do people bully: 1. The bully him/her self has been bullied by their parents. 2. They feel so bad about themselves that they have a need to make others feel the same. 3. The qualities in you that make you unique, can be used against you. You'll be told that you are an alien and don't belong. You shouldn't be proud of yourself. 4. Jealousy is a factor that makes them want to pull you down. 5. Peer pressure makes people bully you. Here they don't really want to bully you but they do it because they want to fit into the popular group. 6. People who have gone through rejections want others to feel the pain as well. 7. Some time people in authoritarian positions wish to exercise their power over other people by bullying them. It gives them a sense of self worth. 8. People make fun of others. It is okay to make fun of another person but a bully does this very harshly and the fun goes on continuously, forever. 9. Institutional causes, where bullying is allowed, well accepted in the society. There are not high enough standards in the culture and people aren't encouraged to be careful about others feelings.

You missed a really really big one. Social norms. If you are doing something that's against the norm, someone is going to oppose you, that's not only human nature, but nature in general. Going against the norm for almost the entirety of human evolution meant you put the entire tribe at risk of death.

Great video! So helpful and true! Sadly it brings back terrible memories of school and being at home back then. I wasn't just bullied by my peers but my family as well. With school they bullied me for having short hair and reading all the time. They also bullied me for loving school work and being at school. I felt safer at school and being in my favourite teachers room during lunch and study period. I stayed after school for hours just so I wouldn't have to spend so much time at home. At home I was bullied for having a Trich (this is around the time I found *****​ 's channel) because my family didn't want to understand. They just marked me as mentally unstable and branded me as an outcast. They also questioned my style of clothes and always made my clothing opinions seems negative or wrong.

Thank you for making this video, it's really good and I think really helpful to start the conversation going. At school, I was bullied because I was the top of the class in most subjects and because I am just short, always have been and always will be. Sometimes people still point it out and, even though it annoys me, I don't pay attention to it as much but it really used to hurt. Then more recently, I was bullied in a work environment where someone used their power, and perhaps other reasons I'm not too sure about, to put me down, make me think I was worthless and make me lose all confidence. It was not a good environment to work in. I'm French and this was in the UK, which made it even harder because I was trying really hard to adapt but nothing helped, I was made to feel like crap and like I wasn't doing anything right. We need to remember sometimes it's little things that we don't think other people will pick up on, things we don't even realise we are doing, that hurt others. I think sometimes there's a great lack of empathy and mutual care. So, like Bribry's song, please "CARE" more (and try and help out constructively if you notice someone being bullied) ! :)

When I was a kid I used to get bullied sometimes but at the same time one reason why I got bullied because I was unique in my own way I wasn't like other people I wasn't hanging around the bad crowd or The In Crowd of certain individuals who like starting trouble but at the same time I wanted to get an education but people that I knew really didn't like the kind of person that I was because I was all about learning and getting an education while some of my buddies were thinking about causing trouble and starting fights and all of that but I guess that's one way of looking at it from a certain point of view but I will say without a shadow of a doubt some of these bullies that are all around the world probably come from broken homes because they probably had fathers and mothers who were bullies themselves.

When you get in the work place and u r being bullied by CO workers or whatever ... the best types of responses are calm rational questions ... like (depending on what’s being said) some general questions ... ‘what exactly are you driving at’ ... ‘I’m not sure I understand what you mean, can you explain’ ... ‘is that a joke?’ ... ‘are you joking around?’ (Possibly add, it’s not that funny to me.) .. a lot of times people like to use veiled jokes to bully people, so you might even directly confront them with, ‘that doesn’t sound like a joke to me’ ... you really have to train people that you won’t just let them say things to you or bully you ASAP ... when you make it hard for them to bully you from the get go... they will avoid you or will treat you with more respect ... in the adult world ... usually having to explain themself to you... it will make them uncomfortable and they will stop ... and you won’t ever look like a victim or seem like someone who is over reacting and it will be easier for you to remain logical and feel more empowered ... they should have this kind of training for how kids can respond and deflect bullies ... especially in high school before entering the adult world where defending yourself with a punch won’t be such a small deal

I remember back in middle school some jackass bullied me because of my race and another just for laughs. Back then I wished they'd paid with their lives for what they've done, but I always tell myself that everyone deserves another chance regardless. A few years later, I actually saw one of them and he'd recognized me, thing is I'd already forgave them both moved on with my life. A third bully was a girl, she kept spreading rumors that I stalked her even though I never did and never will. Then she tries to play nice and ask me for a dollar. Honestly I felt like going off on her, like burst into rage. Bullying must die, not only will it severely damaged someone mentally, but will physically hurt or kill them.

Bullying and cruelty have always seemed alien to me, I mean I understand on an academic level why they do it, but I just can't wrap my head around the concept that someone could actually derive any kind of joy or satisfaction from causing someone pain. Knowing the reasons and truly understanding it are completely in different galaxies. I playfully tease people I care about to show affection but if I actually hurt their feelings, I feel awful about it and do everything I can to make up for it. The knowledge that I caused someone pain, even by accident, is one of the most horrible feelings in the world. When someone feels bad at all, if I can't help them feel better, I feel so powerless and helpless. Maybe I'm just too innocent or something to understand cruelty beyond just knowing what it is, I dunno. After all, I'm the type of person who gives her opponent a pep talk before a competition (I'm pretty good at video games, and even though I play to win, I want them to do well, too, so I give them advice before and after we're playing, I'm also good at carnival games and do the same thing if playing against someone in carnival games). I just wish everyone could be nice to each other, I know it may never happen, but I still want it to. I try to like everybody if I can. Even if someone doesn't like me, I'll still try to like them.

Am I the only person who thinks that sometimes people don't bully because they are jealous of someone else but because they just naturally feel the need to comment on the differences of people??? You sort it out by telling the school counselor or principal or other person more equipped to deal w the situation... that you will file a restraining order and have the bully arrested if the violate the order (means they have to keep a specified distance) and the school will have to cater to the situation ... if they violate the order you will not hesitate to have them arrested and you WILL file charges of assault if they touch you... and you should also suggest to the school that usually kids who are abused at home act like bullies and you are tempted to call CPS ... you can also tell them that if this problem escalates, you will ask for a guardian ad litem which is an attorney who works for you the child and is paid by the state... it’s good if your parents can say this stuff, but if YOU as a kid said all this stuff, they would be shocked that you are familiar with legal options ... no adult wants to deal with that and things will get resolved quickly... I’ve actually done this and it works ... never had to file anything, just said I would ... works!

I think that is mostly true. In my childhood I remember the kids that were the most popular/liked didn't do much of the bullying, it was for the most part the kids that were jostling for lower positions, also I remember those same kids would also try to be as close to the super popular kid as possible........ I was fairly low on the pole due to the fact I was a poor kid who grew up in a rich town and went to a "well to do" school and some other circumstances. I was never the absolute lowest (I was close at times) but I experienced exclusion from games and a fair amount of bullying. I made it my mission to be friends with the most popular kid, I did this subconsciously for the most part I think, it wasn't like I told myself "right that's the strategy ill use to improve my social status". When I got to secondary school I also did some (what I perceived to be) "daring things" such as using drugs and hanging out with older kids, this must be linked to my desire to be more "alpha-dominant' as you put it as well, at some points it got me into a real mess, I've had some huge ups and downs. Later on in life I actually managed to get fairly rich even though I didn't pass a single subject at school, but at the same time I ignored my health, I lost my money, and now I'm concentrating on improving my health and well being again. Im 41 and I'm thankful for my experiences but I wouldn't like to go through all that again, I still have issues but I'm hopeful for some calm seas ahead for a while, but who knows what will happen when you're rowing your little raft on the ocean of life, I guess all you can do is just row in what you think is the right direction and hope you don't damage other peoples rafts too much as you go. Good luck to anyone being bullied out there! The old saying "its only temporary" is very true!!! All of a sudden things can look totally different (as hard as that might be to imagine right now), you may wake up in a couple of years blissfully happy, sadly that will be temporary too haha. When I was in High School someone started a rumour I was a lesbian . 22 years later.....the rumour hasn't stopped where I live and I get harassed and I cannot date cos guys think I am a lesbian. Their conclusion is that I am a lesbian because I haven't been with a guy. Just because I don't and didn't sleep around with guys does not mean I sleep around with girls. I am not a lesbian. I know people whose marriages were destroyed over lies told by others bearing false witness which is a big time sin according to the Bible ... I’m not a Christian really, but that is one Christian sin I agree with that is particularly evil. And I always think of what the Bible says about that whenever I hear of these things occurring. Sorry you are dealing with that. Maybe you should walk around with a scarlet letter L pinned to your blouse and be super loving to everyone around you and people will begin to think of you as all love rather than as a lesbian ... and when people ask what the L stands for you can ask them what do they think it stands for? ... if you exude love ... as in agape love, they may come to that conclusion .. maybe try to somehow have fun with this whole thing... I had something like that once but it was because me and my friend were pretending one time just to be funny ... and it’s incredible how obsessed people are with the whole lesbian thing .. everyone was so easily convinced that we were lesbians and it seemed like it was a big topic of gossip in our circle ... of course I did not care one iota ... but also I have moved around a bit since then and it wasn’t like anything they may have said or done had any affect on my life or close social circles ... in fact I laughed about it with my actual friends and said, jeeze these people are so obsessed with sex ... and people are... it’s a strange human condition ... I am so not like most people, sometimes I feel like an outside observer ... you should feel sorry for those who fall for lies and deception ... and in some ways it’s good that they reveal themselves to you as people who have no interest in the truth ... you don’t have to treat them with disrespect, but these kinds of situations are more enlightening to YOU about who THEY are character wise.

It is not some acts like passive aggressive behavior or name calling, but the negative energy that one receives, is what affects people. Bullying is actually a sharp negative energy, hatred that all of a sudden hits a person and psychologically knocks them down. They wonder why this person hates them so intensely? People shouldn't be allowed to bully but also to publicly hate as well. Every time a person gossips or creates a gang against a target they should be questioned by others. Adults DO bully as well. In a little sophisticated manner. But regardless of their mannerism, bullying must be discouraged by the society as a whole. Third world countries have very little awareness on bullying. I think awareness is the need of the hour.

I am transgender and get bullied in different forms daily.2 years ago a neighbor damaged me so baldly and everything that followed had a very bad impact on me.She was so cruel.I had lost my partner to death and she knew this . I still do not fully understand what happened and although I am far from perfect I still can not imagine myself doing that to another.I struggle every day with the damage I let her do and still I do not understand.I googled the topic "how to psychologically destroy a person" and was shocked that what was described every step she she took. This means she knew what she was doing .I feel sad now for her in a sort of way but still do not understand.The financial damage she inflicted was over $20,000.00 plus my partner had died a year before .She even used that against me.She spread rumors and gossip of a very destructive kind.She knew what she was doing and allot of the time I think she was successful.

I have been bullied before and it was really hard on me I told people in my friends what was going on is it really really hurt me I told my teacher and she knew what was going on she feel bad for me not just I feel bad for the people as well really hurt then but I still have it on my mind get rid of it I just want people to know that bullying is a wrong I was different than the other kids it really hurt because I was different from them special in my own way let me feel great to understand that I was loved no matter who you are so other people that you are special different in your own way because you're different doesn't make people judge you I learned this from the best people that I loved in my life I am thankful for who I am I don't care what people think of me anymoreI just want people to know that you are special and that makes youthat person feel good and makes and help them realize that what they're doing is wrong I was bullying would stop for good I'm thankful what you said and you are right

They bully because they hide their own problems and transfer the attention to someone else who might be better than them and they dont like that. The person they are bullying is better than them! So they try hard to find something wrong about others because the bully doesnt like themselves! My neighbors are doing this to me the whole family is after me and i hope to GOD they get arrested for this!

Everyone cares about their own reputation rather than their personal character. I'm different because I'm olive, I'm so sporty for a girl and don't talk as much as other girls.

I have so-called friends put my college major down I am doing music I was told it was too easy. My child who is smart is always put down being told she isn't as good as her kids. This woman ditched me for other parents. Kids who are naighty or have special needs or other issues. She likes to feel superior. But she obviously sees us as a threat which is why the bullying putdowns etc. She also told me I was not naturally talented because I have lessons from a teacher. This is an obvious lie

Why not bring in disabled students rather than always having race stuff brought up?? I swear we get WAY way more than they get yet we can’t catch a break from this BS. Even lgt get plenty of support for just about anything yet when it comes to disability it’s almost always about how others feel rather then how we feel about the way we’re treated. Some are denied service with a service dog 🐕 yet won’t do that to lgt whatever or black person, the employee would be fired yet doesn’t get the same consequences when it comes to someone with a disability. I would love 💕 to finally see justice served the same as others.

After being bullied by people I considered to be friends I always feel scared of talking or bonding with someone else in school. This is because whenever I make friends with someone and I think they are really kind and generous, after about 2 months of knowing that person they seem to start saying horrible things which in their mind it is seemed as banter however to me it's not. I am now in year 10 at high school and I'm a miserable kid who stays in his room all day playing XBOX one because I'm too scared to go in public because I feel like I'm going to experience this all my life. going 2 or 3 years back in school I was a happy cheerful boy looking forwardto every lesson of the week in school. that is a distant memory to me now

Hi, excellent video ty so much, very informative and helpful, bullying is not ok at no age, all the reason you just mention in this video is not a reason why you got bullied, it was just the bully’s excuse to bully you, that was not your fault or your problem it had nothing to do with you whatsoever, bullies don’t like themselves and are extremely jealous of you, all of the people in this video are absolutely adorable and very uplifting attractive people, I feel sorry for bullies and now I know it’s nothing to do with me I don’t tolerate them anymore in my adult life, I just laugh at them and walk away, grab me is another thing!! Have your parents go to the school counselor and tell them what’s going on. Your parents should say that if this is not stopped they will file a restraining order against the girls and if they violate the order (as in come near you within a specific distance) you can have them arrested. Your mom should also say that she will file assault charges if any of those girls touch you. Assault is an illegal crime and YOU can file charges against someone for that EVEN if you are a kid. ... but it probably won’t come to that... all that needs to be done is to TELL the school this. If your parents won’t help you, then YOU do it. Also mention that you want a guardian ad litem which is an attorney for children ... u can mention this to your school counselor or your parents if they won’t help you, tell your parents and the school you will call cps on everyone ... make it clear you are not going to put up with this and that you cannot defend yourself any other way. I KNOW that just going to the school counselor and telling them that you WILL get a restraining order and file assault charges if they touch you, WILL make them act and you would be surprised at how quickly the bullying stops. I have literally done this for my kids as their mother. It. Worked. Every. Time. The adults DO NOT want to deal with police and lawyers and court ... trust me on that! And the bullies don’t want to bully people who stand up to them. Hitting the bullies WILL work as well, but then you might get suspended yourself and things could escalate ... but most bullies won’t bully someone who hits back ... it’s important to aim for civilized resolutions but if it gets to that point... anyways, the civilized thing to do is to start by threatening a restraining order and assault charges.. hopefully your parents can help you ... I’ve been through it as s kid and as a parent and I know what works.

Some are being abused ... that’s what I found out years later about one kid who literally stalked me for a year... it was the kid who lived across the street from me .. I always thought he was just a little brat... but a few years ago, his older brother who was actually very nice, told my brother that this kid suffered a lot of abuse by his dad (but dad did not abuse him) and his little brother who stalked me, is not doing well as an adult... when my brother told me... I was like, well that explains a lot! I feel bad for the kid now ... apparently the abuse was pretty severe. The father should have been removed from the home.
