Brian, with no disrespect, but amplifying those settings also generates notifications from Microsoft about changes that are false. In fact MS is using the warnings as conduits to selling MS products. For example some settings if set high enough will ask you if you want to sign up or install other MS products but are disguised as warming to begin with. Windows is an operating system with adverts, for MS products and if the can scare you into buying more then they will resort to tweaking those settings to do so.

That's it Andrew, you can note this in the eager of M$ replace the well succeed Windows 7 with something full of bloatware and user tracking. Even pirate versions was legitimate by upgrading to Windows 10. As the upgrade to Windows 11 will be forced, very soon Windows OS will be given "free".

Andrew, you have too choices, either grasp windows for what it is or use another OS. Not much else you can do my friend.

I always had UAC disabled untill recently I decided to re-enable it because as you said I hated the pesky pop-up, I think its just laziness which is pretty stupid taking it for granted you'll never get infected

Incorrect, malware will just gain admin. If this wasn't the case, ransomware groups couldn't operate. Using a standard account doesn't give you protection.

Never said it was 100% full proof, it is a layer of security which should be left enabled, to help combat malware. So disabling it is stupid.

@@Britec09 For my usecase it wont be a problem to have it completely disabled or just on the 2nd lvl UAC.... Unless i let others use my PC, only then will i turn this back on MAX. Having that repetitively pop up while program testing is a pain... Best anti virus is my own knowledge of cybersecurity, I have a dummy PC for anything that comes in to my main PC. haven't had any malware problem even on XP era. I may be stingy and delicate with my PC as others pointed out but that beats getting anything that could make it more a problem in the future.

Brian, with all (and considerable) respect due, the most important anti-virus feature sits at the keyboard. You can have all sorts of features installed, but if you don't know what you're doing in the first place, they won't help you too much. Personally, I have Smartscreen, UAC and Windows Defender turned off, and run my system in Administrator mode. Again, that's personally, very personally, but I have never been hit by any viruses, at least according to AVG Anti-Virus, which is the one I use.

Everyone I know disables UAC and so on because the pop ups are as annoying as having to add your password on a linux machine when you do ANYTHING at all. The MAIN reason I don't use a linux machine is the ENDLESS requests for password authentications. I generally use 000 as the password when I'm using linux, because the requests are non stop and completely unneeded. i don't need to add my password to open my browser, or software I INSTALLED, but a linux system thinks I should anyway, a total waste of time. Windows is getting just as bad. I'm not a child, I can look after my own security thanks.

If the end user does not know whether a downloaded file is good or bad then the standard user account just like sudo in linux is a joke.....Most users just elevate the file without checking so the UAC is totally pointless in this regard.

It's a bit stupid that some people turn off UAC, it's there to protect us, and I agree, it is a must have security feature to protect us users. I never turn off any Windows security settings, or any security setting in any OS for that matter. Great video by the way. 👍

I will disable defender and uac. All I do is game and KZbin. I won't download exe files from browser. Always stick to winget , choco , msstore for apps. I wouldn't recommend using email and downloading attachments in such a pc. Never got infected for the past 2 years.

Hi, @Britec09. The video was informative, definitely will look into the settings and make the necessary changes. Just wondering, do you have any videos coming up on MS defender security files that gets downloaded automatically. I have noticed everyday when I switch on my laptop a file gets downloaded which is probably fine. But is it normal for Microsoft to have 50+ sub extensions/updates for one main file! Hmmm. Anyways, thanks.

My Smart App is turned off, it says its something to do with optional diagnostic data being turned on but i think i turned that off with debloating windows 11 😱😱 Common sense is the best Virus Protection for any PC, but i do have all the other stuff you mentioned turned on, i also use my PC with the Administrator account, i have done for about 8 years now and had zero problems, i'll look into using a standard account now though, thanks Brian 🥰🥰

It is the same in the real world. If police say, don't do this or that, people just do it anyway. Same with illegal or dangerous software. People get warned for using it and still continue to use it because they don't wanna spend money on legal alternatives. Stupid, but that is how our youth today is.

Well, the first reason is to avoid M$ overseen my information with its obligatory telemetry (another disabled thing) acceptance. The second reason is because this onboard "security" helpers (defender, app control, etc) have very narrow efficiency irl, they overall limits the user by also not allowing or discouraging the use off not malicious apps. The third reason is because the USER is the critical factor, if you're a complete noob maybe you should enable them all, but if you have a minimum of background to know what you're doing with your hardware, systems, software, etc, maybe you not even need a anti-virus. The fourth reason is that i have a good anti-virus and i am informed off all the process my Windows are executing, as all my startup items and components are tracked constantly. There is another minor reasons but these are the main thing.

And yes, my Windows is purchased, i have a Office 365 signature and all the apps i need in Windows OS are legit. Some people who cant afford the software maybe need to disable all the things so they can crack it, I'm not judging if this is right or wrong, its only a fact.

obligatory telemetry? you are saying that on KZbin that collects information? everywhere you go on the internet collects data, discord, steam, reddit, facebook, twitter, every website you click on. You cannot hide on the internet, oh and before you say VPN, they collect data. Just so you know.
