I prefer to call it the Horror Twenties, as a reverse spin on the Roaring Twenties of the previous century. A lot of horrific stuff has occurred in this decade. A pandemic which took millions of lives and forced us to shut down in order to protect ourselves and loved ones from the inevitable fate of death that we all must face eventually. An insane shift in political beliefs from both sides of the political spectrum(especially the left). Wars occurring throughout the world and dangerous threats rising from hemisphere to hemisphere. High inflation costs on grocery, gas and other amenities making it almost impossible to afford to live on your own or start a family unless you’ve got enough money in your accounts. Man, this decade has stunk so far. Hopefully the second half of it will be better for America and the rest of the world. It all starts on Election Day, which will hopefully bring the great reversal of decline and the rise of a new bold order to rule in the best interest of Americans and the world.

Now this isn't entirely doom and gloom perhaps things could turn out okay, maybe society splits in two with longer rungs still providing for ourselves and each other while the elite just get robots to do everything for them living a life of luxary think of the brave new world kinda style.

In a conventional war, China, Russia, and NK would be clapped by NATO. China's economy is going down the toilet currently, and it'll likely take many years for it to recover and start building towards becoming a superpower. China's military ability has not even been tested, who knows if they'd actually fare well in a war even with smaller nations. Russia has been shown to be weak in Ukraine, they can't even beat America's leftover tiddlywinks of sent weaponry. North Korea is North Korea, so not much of a threat there. You could argue about nukes but as much as countries threaten, they don't really want a nuclear war. Nobody will win a nuclear fight unless some nuclear powers have secret tech that can prevent a strike from impacting them. Would be wild to see that and hopefully we don't.

Back then we had social gatherings with family since that was the only way we could communicate with each other. Going out for pizza parties, birthdays at the local arcade with all your friends, meeting people in person with common interests. That was what life should be like. But, now people can just text or talk on the phone or play games on it whenever they want. So there is nothing left in my area except massive capitalist ran corporate businesses, that provide jobs, suck all the money out of the area for mindless consumerism with zero benefit to collective socializing. That's all that's left. Nowadays I just work, go home and chat with friends over the internet since there's nowhere for me to meet people anymore... It's depressing as hell.

Lot of negative things happened in 2016, with lots of people passing away, and the presidential election in the US, and the aftermath of it, it wasn't the same.

I feel another reason the 2020s are so bad is the lack of pop culture icons we had compared to other decades. While I felt the 2010s were hugely lacking, the 2020s are even worst. Huge lack of iconic, memorial or innovative movies, tv shows, music, video games, books. Something that describes this generation. No fun fads like dancing, toys, slang. No new clothing or hairstyles that really stand out. The 2020s feel almost like the 2010s pretty much. Even the art style often used in advertising or products has no real style. Mostly minimalist. Bland looking fonts and logos. In fact, a lot of young people are showing interest in retro related things, probably because past decades were more fun and interesting. I want things to feel fun, carefree and fresh again.

Even looking back on the 2000s and 2010s with nostalgia, they were still pretty terrible in their own ways. Eastern Europe was going through the effects of the failure of economic shock therapy and another rise of fascism, the Arab Spring was a failure in many places, Libya went from a country strangled by the West to one where child slavery became a new norm compared to its past prosperity. The US we had corrupt politicians lying to justify military conflicts and encroaching on American freedoms while claiming its to protect national security.

I feel like the late 2010's were some of the best years of my life other than early childhood because i had a good amount of friends, school was pretty chill, stuff felt more fun and i was allowed to relax and live in the moment instead of always thinking about the future while wishing i was in the past. I didn't really get affected by the immediate effects of the virus because my country was wayy more chill with the lockdown stuff so 2020 and 21 was alright but the aftereffects hit like a truck and 22 and onwards has felt like one long shitshow

For me was until 2021, then in 2022 everything changed and nothing went back to the way it was before. I am already 22 and my hispanic friends That I always used to hang out with they are now 21 - 24, now we don't see each other much, some went back to their country, others are now busy, others took a path, others moved far away, some are already parents and started their family and others don't go out much anymore because they focus on their own thing and define their lives. With new friends or with the same old ones We no longer feel the same fun as before, as good friends one day we promised to all be united forever and life changed, but we continue talking, remembering and laughing all in the group chat 💬. I miss those times a lot but at the same time I am grateful and lucky to have lived them and for this era to have given us these great times that left us with unforgettable memories.

I was in my 20s during the 2010s and that decade wasn't that great either. The rapid advancements of technology destroyed the news industry. I worked for a TV station that decade and it was pure chaos, TV couldn't keep up with social media. The final nail in the coffin was in 2016 when Facebook launched it's live streaming feature. Half a million dollar live van technology became obsolete over night. Going live in public was no longer a TV thing, everyone was doing it. The newsroom didn't know what to do with the technology. They felt obligated to use the live vans because they spent half a million dollars on the technology. TV in general is collapsing. Fast forward to 2024 and now AI is affecting every industry, this stuff is chaos. The only way around it is to ride the wave and embrace it. Those who don't, won't survive.

Take it from a younger millennial. We all had similar videos and feelings about the future in the 2010's. It's always been bleak and the eternal boomer was at the helm. We have faith in you Gen Z. You guys are going to bring us to the walkable, green, fair future we want.
@stardust68706 ай бұрын
As a fellow younger Millennial, no, most of us didn't. We had more hope in the future and optimism in the 2010s than Gen Zers have now. As bad as the previous decade was, it was better than the 2020s. Most of my friends believed that what's ahead is better than what's behind. All of this changed during and after the pandemic. Also, we can have faith in Gen Z, but it's not fair to put all the pressure on younger generations. Gen Z and Alpha can't do all of that alone; we all need to unite.

It's not the technology that is what defines what's interesting in a given decade; it's culture. And the culture sucks because crybabies are running the show. We should be watching content that has cool stories, hot chicks, ripped dudes, guns, lightning and ultra-violence. That's what it felt like we were heading towards coming off of the late 00's and thru the 10's. Where you had edgy content and yadda yadda. Most of the cultural zeitgeist was destroyed because of the ad-pocalypse.

Not how I would rate it. 2008-2011: middle school. I woke up, fought with my parents, got bullied in school before class started, retreated into my lined paper drawings during class, tried to run away from afterschool ( the YMCA would never kick me out how I wanted), eat pizza with mom and dad when I wanted to do my homework, then dictate my homework to my mom late at night while my medication bluntly pushed me into sleep 2012-2015: High school: carpooling with a hot lifeguard and a really funny guy, going to classes that stimulated my designs of a utopia where I could run forever between millions of independent states, getting one on 15 time with PhD teachers that thought I would be a famous scientist or artist, building makeshift inventions out of the junk in my now organized playroom 2016-2019: community college: taking a halved course load after a big breakdown, looking through all my home videos and sketches for answers, creating novel psychological models, writing solutions for every meltdown, feeling like my studies no longer aligned with my free work, eating a Frappuccino every day as a convenient perversion of the supplemental shakes my mom used to give me. 2020-2023: post college: living alone, never having a meltdown again, spending my days at a group for Autistic adults, searching for behaviors that were still harmful to others which I could change, becoming religious toward my own designs. I’d say the 2020s are a little bit better than 2016-2019

We've been building to this for decades. 80's "poor" was both parents working, 2 cars and a house, but hand-me-down shirts, no fancy dinners and whatnot. And that was considered "concerning". nowadays, the AVERAGE guy in his 20s is working9-5 no kids, no gf, cup ramen, 200 sq feet, a sleeping bag and a t.v. the size of a mini fridge, set on the mini fridge, one bathroom the size of a closet, AN DAS IT, and they're barely holding it together. Nowadays, "Poor" is literal homelessness, smellin' of smegma on the bus to work to be able to eat anything at all. And it's _100%_ corporate greed, because technology has DEFINITELY been improving, therefore improving ease of production and transport of products. It should be CHEAPER to live now than in the fifties by a significant margin, NIT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.
