I saw a man the other day who had upper lip lines, so I think some can get them. I also have been deliberately looking at all men’s necks. Their necks seem to wrinkle & sag just as much as everyone else’s do. We sometimes don’t notice because they have them covered up with a shirt & tie. Personally nowadays I think women are aging much better than men.

@@amd8095 People think their hair grows back thicker, meaning each hair is thicker, because when you shave a hair and it pops through the skin, it's blunt on the end. Hairs are typically pointed, so a blunted end feels very different until you get used to the process. You'll love how your skincare applies and absorbs into your skin. I find less is needed. Also, foundation and other cream products look lovely. What's the worse that can happen? You don't like it and you let your face get hairy again.

I am 41 and just starting on Retin-A. Excited! I've used Differin for about 8 months, and before that, a couple of years of The Ordinary retinol - all with really good results. These more intense interventions like deep peels etc kind of scare me, though. I heard someone say they used a dual fraxel laser and it made their skin sag, and it's never recovered. I worry about this type of thing. OTOH, I've heard that hormone replacement therapy for post-menopausal women keeps the collagen quite intact and skin from sagging. This supposedly comes with risks of cancer, ahh - but what I heard is that in fact the risks are overstated and are not really that bad (provided it's started early enough). I am not at the stage of requiring this yet, but I will be looking into it more. Until then, I am very happy with my retinoic acid and my Vitamin C cream from Derma-E, which always brightens up my skin. Thanks for your videos! 💐😊

Another simple reason people can get upper lip lines is from sleeping on our sides or on the stomachs. It creases the skin every night for hours. Heredity really has a lot to do with it too. Vitamins do help. I used mango butter on my face because the molecules are too large to plug up pores. Most people think I look 10-15 years younger than my age. Also scowling is something I avoid as well. Not wearing sunglasses causes people too squint or not wearing your prescription glasses and mire squinting. Not drinking enough water also causes wrinkles. I also rinse my face with water a few times a day & let it air dry. Rarely wear makeup as it can age women just by putting too much on.

The real reason for lip lines is probably that men have thicker skin than women, not just on the face but on the hands and arms as well. It's nothing to do with talking or hairy faces, in my opinion. Also hormones possibly play a role in thinning skin.
@whatwhat85242 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The skin on a whole man's body ages slower than a women's. We shave our legs but our leg skin ages faster than a man who doesn't shave his legs. If it was talking, you would see a dramatic difference between people like professors and teachers who talk and give lectures all day from people who have jobs that don't require much verbalization like truck drivers.

Maybe it's not point of the studies or job of the "messenger" (hehe), but isn't the fact women do more of the child-rearing one major reason why they end up talking more? They spend their lives trying to make sure their children and neighbor's children ( as well as their elderly parents and dumb husbands) are doing OK, being taken care of, their needs being met, etc.? Wow! I did not know they could be treated … unfortunately I think mine are too far gone - it would take an act of God, and he’s got real problems to address!

Tretinoin vs. derma planing....wouldn't Tretinoin do the trick?
@mindygross33793 жыл бұрын
I’ve been trying it, but so far all it seems to do is make the area look dry….with lines. Next step I’m thinking about is carefully applying a 10% or 20%TCA solution. Maybe it can peel the lines off? Your thoughts on this, Dr. Davin???

@@mindygross3379 Same for me, tret just dries out this area and lines don't budge. I've seen the results of strong peels and lasers and they're great for wrinkles but down time can be challenging AND I've seen hyperpigmentation and de-pigmentation results as well. I"ll keep the lines rather than run risk of permanently de-pigmenting or hyper-pigmenting my face.

@@roxemary Thanks for that info. Appreciated!!!

@@iggybiggy821 I’m honestly terrified of what you describe happening, and that’s why I haven’t moved forward on it. I’d like to do some kind of laser on my face (fraxel?) for textural reasons, but the hyperpigmentation is a worrisome concern. Microneedling did nothing, and tiny Botox injections were very temporary. Topical products such as Needle-less Serum, Argiriline serum, etc., temporarily help smooth on a per-application daily basis. I do believe we freak out way more about those lines than we should. We are soooo hard on ourselves……..

Interesting. I have a friend in her thirties with alopecia. She has zero facial hair and has quite a deep upper lip line. My upper lip is pretty fuzzy at 29 so hopefully I don't get them lol. Maybe I should start shaving my lady stache. Also, I'm NOT a big talker (often fewer than 100 words a day probably) however I am a singer. And occasional smoker. But diligent sunscreen user because I don't tan so much as I break out in freckles
