I don't think anyone has ever made an appreciation post on how good American Psycho looks and accurately displays the whole 80s look. usually when they shot an film set in the 80s, they either shoot it too much like an modern film with natural lighting, or they exaggerate the 80s look with too much neon lights and synth music etc, but American Psycho just got the accurate look, the static back lighting and brown urban style furniture was just pitch perfect, and they even got the cinematography and editing right too, they never use a overly complicated shot or editing where it gives the illusion that it might be a post modern film. wish more directors taken this level of attention to detail when they make an 80s era film

The blandness of the colours perfectly reflects the blandness of Batemens world

The movies that really made me notice color grading were Lord of the Rings and The Matrix.

The blu rays(especially 4k) of the lord of the rings have the wrong color . They put a green filter on

We’re waiting for the film’s digital release, so we have more footage to work with.

One thing that makes American Psycho cinematography look the way it does is a specific kind of specular lighting that used to be popular. Watch the highlights on the actors' faces, seemingly coming from nowhere if it were a natural environment. They used additional light rigs to achieve that effect. Personally, I wish modern cinematographers relied less on grading and returned some of that retro light and shadow design.

@gyohngpersonal it was shot on analog film, thats where the look comes from. I just love it.

I actually prefer films like this, natural color range appeals to me more(though, i do think some scenes have too low contrast, i like high contrast films, as long as it doesn't completely blacken shadows)
