You should have mentioned, that when it's hot and humid and no breeze, you will get dehydrated very fast, even if you don't feel too hot, such as night time when there is no sun but its near 100% humidity and no wind and warm. QUESTION: What about back when our species evolved in Africa some 200,000 years ago? Surely a lot of those ancestral areas would have been tropically hot, a la the equator, almost as hot as our body temperature. How did our ancestors get rid of heat back then? They couldn't have sweated constantly and profusely, surely? Did they cool off by running a lot...? Or what?

I thought the same thing... but I think it might have been a combination of lower global temperature, greater physical activity and.. you know.. less clothing..? Just an opinion!

@mariosaric36866 жыл бұрын
Maybe they had a slower metabolism and generated less heat?
@meredithnavin13586 жыл бұрын
There are some adaptions that African people have. Flattened noses keep air flowing from the nose onto the face, causing evaporation, taller and thinner means more body surface area, super curly hair is good at keeping it away from the body because it just turns into an afro (much to the chagrin of many people). Please note that this is obviously not applicable to all African peoples because it has been found that genetic diversity amongst African nations is the same as European nations. So obviously there are variations in these examples, depending on where the person comes from. I hope that helps! :-)
@theholypopechodeii43676 жыл бұрын
@@meredithnavin1358 Actually genetic diversity in Africa is the highest of any place in the entire world, because that is where humans evolved, but the rest of your comment is all correct.

I know this is an old comment, but I found it interesting. It reads like a paradox. You imply that there are people who don't already understand basic human anatomy and who would know the answer to this question. So do you think that this video was made for the people who already know the answer? You must also realize then that this video was made for those that don't know the answer. So why is it not a valuable video ? Once upon a time you were taught this, shouldn't it be a good thing that others are being taught too?
@DakotaisBeast2951012 жыл бұрын
@@Randomsae luckily for you, today I was curious to see all that I've commented in the past. It was meant as an additional side-note. It wasn't directed at anyone but used to further drive in the point of futility because most people know basic anatomy. It was also used to acknowledge that some people may not know basic anatomy (like how a humans body temp is around 98 fahrenheit) which means they're not likely to be watching this channel. I think a related issue / question is why water temperature feels so much colder, i.e. if you immerse in 20C water it will feel very uncomfortable, probably even 28C is still chilly. I think it is because water conducts so much better it carries the heat away quickly and a smaller temperature difference is gives the same heat loss. Perhaps we do not really feel temperature at all - we feel heat loss.

70 degrees F is _freezing_ for me. I need at least 78 degrees, I think (just realized this is the norm haha). My hands are almost always ice cold (I used to wear gloves to school in all seasons save for the summer) and you'll rarely find me without my hoodie on. Might be that I'm a preemie girl who runs at a degree lower than the norm but yeah. I like it fairly toasty but even I have my limits (such as at night when I have to have one or two fans blowing on my face to keep cool but even then, as soon as my ears get cold, I get into a tug-o-war of covering and uncovering my face). In fact, in terms of water for bathing/washing, the water MUST be near scalding lest any temp below that drives my skin bonkers. I can't even wash my hands in public places because the lukewarm water feels so bloody cold to me :( I don't understand my skin at all and I don't know what causes this, if it has a name, or if it's an isolated incident; I don't know anyone else who shares this issue.
