(Honestly, they'd probably end up getting paid more that way, actually, even if we're all miserly, just from the sheer number of folks throwing into the kitty. And it probably wouldn't be for too long anyway, before we've sufficiently shamed Linus into doing the right thing. Linus isn't a bad guy or an idiot. Phone ban has been a thing here in Denmark for the last 20 years. You're not allowed to use your phone in class. Outside of class it's fine but in class it's banned. I honestly thought this was common in US with how bad the parenting generally is now days
@sultanofsick2 ай бұрын
I'm 35, when I went through school in the US cell phones, and any other electronic devices for that matter, absolutely were banned in school. Just a little bit before smart phones, when the latest flip phones that could take brief video or play music like an ipod were the hot shit. Most teachers didn't really care if students used them in down time, but official policy was you can't even have it on you.
@dillonvillon2 ай бұрын
@sultanofsick yep. 32 here, and phones were banned in class for us. It got to the point, they had to bring in the school resource officer to escort the student to the principals office. Ridiculous
@TheAsjdj2 ай бұрын
@@sultanofsick most people here do learn from a young age that phones are a privilege and and should be treated like that. You can use it but it does bring consequences for miss use. The same goes for how we let kids grow up. Kids need to learn the limits of things like screentime etc by themselves. We don't force them not to use it. Most people here will learn when you stay up until 4 am and then still have to go to school. After that they learn to shut it down before bedtime. Gotta let them figure things out by themselves. And then guide them when needed of course.

Its a mixed bag given how other well known wallpaper websites are like $10-$30/month. Pixiv Premiums is $55/year, and ArtStation Premium is $30/month. Out of fairness, I anticipate that Panels might have a-lot to offer down the road. Floatplane justifies their price’s based on content. Hopefully Panels will do the same. It’s unsurprising if they expand to desktop options in the future given how high quality images are often scalable. I don’t think people realize how tricky it is to find insanely good 4K wallpapers for 32” monitors, especially thematic ones. It can take weeks for the artist to pick up a commission. In the meantime, just take Marques’ suggestion at timestamp 6:58 at the Waveform Podcast.

The belt issue isn't the nature of leather goods. At least not precisely. Actual leather goods won't do that. However, most of the "patent leather" and leather with patterns embossed on the surface will. A plain, unadulterated, leather belt won't do that. You can probably get the embossed LTT without compromising those features, or at the very least place the embossing where it won't be a crack risk.

@@werewolfnar 100% true (from my personal experience), but LTT wants to be animal-free/animal-cruelty-free as much as they are willing to pursue. There have definitely been products where my thoughts have been "just use real leather?" for their struggles. Could be more cost effective (doubt that with how they experiment and test); could be to ensure consistancy between each product since natural products naturally vary; could be a viewpoint that might also include "bovines are killed for just their skin", while the majority are just a by-product of the meat industry.

With game prices not going most likely has to do with gamedevs getting more of the share for each sold copy than before. With retail a game company got around 10-25% depending on how good deal you could make with a publisher. The rest was given to other parties. Now people complain Steam take 30% and devs get 70% and talk like 12% extra is gonna be game changing for a company is silly.

23:40 In regards to the inseam, 30 is a bit of a crazy length to go with. That is essentially the shortest inseam a lot of clothing manufactures will carry in stores, which means they are to short for a vast majority of people. If you really wanted to go one inseam, 32 would have been a much better choice... or if you really wanted to go full "we need to keep the number of skus down" just do unhemmed with like a 36 length. People could then: hem it themselves, as hemming pants isn't all that hard; pay someone else to hem it for them, which probably costs $10-20; or just roll them. 1:21:24 Yo... what you are adding to the conversation is not crap products. I wore the same belt for like 15 years that I got on sale from JC Pennies back when I was in high school. Ping from ANYWHERE on earth is less than 400ms, while satellite is 800ms or higher. You trying to make this an age issue shows you don't have a grasp on what the issue is. This is about people using words they don't know the definition of and having never been corrected, so they ingrain these incorrect meanings to words in their minds, making it near impossible to change. In Hungary the government banned phones in Elementary and High Schools which applies to adult students as well. It caused a huge backlash and schools have to collect phones at the beginning of every day, then give them back when students are released. It not just takes time but also raises a lot of questions: Where and how are they storing hundreds of phones? Who is liable if they got stolen during the day? What happens if they get damaged/scratched? How can kids reach someone in an emergency? How can you take a potentially very expensive phone away from it's owner? In an age when phones are not just used for calls but public transport passes, navigation, etc.. you can't say just leave phones at home. My opinion is this is a horrible idea. Wouldn't it be more realistic to just take away phones from those who use it during classes without permission and put it on the teachers table till the class ends? How is this different than reading a book, talking to your friends, passing notes or simply not paying attention during class? What would a parent do if their kid's phone got damaged or stolen in school? I think teachers should rather teach children not to use their phones rather than simply banning them. Also due to our "reformed" educational system teachers in some High Schools are using phones as a tool to look up and read things related to the topic they are studying since a bunch of stuff is missing from the official curriculum.

Some things I would add about the batteries/tool ecosystem discussion: 1. The landscape is hugely competitive. There are tons of brands and tons of no-name or discount stuff out there. Since often people need a lot of different tools, or even a lot of the same tool, the brands want you to choose them, so there is little incentive to jack the prices of batteries, which can turn customers off your entire lineup. 2. The battery technology isnt really locked down at all. Yeah, they take different forms, but there are plenty of third party converters out there and tons of aftermarket batteries. If it is the same voltage (18v, 20v, 48v), odds are there is a converter out there. 3. Though it might seem crazy to pay $40 to $50 for a single battery when you can buy aftermarket ones for $20, the quality of these aftermarket batteries is ridiculously hit and miss. You can get a name brand battery at 4ah lasting twice as long as the supposedly 4ah Amazon or ebay special batteries that cost half as much. When you consider that fact, the name brand stuff is often not even priced that crazy. Buying the cheaper batteries is playing the lottery. I have ones that are as good as the name brand, and I have ones that literally have exactly the same stickers and appearance, but only last 1/3 as long and cannot even properly power the more demanding tools like a circular saw cutting through plywood.
