I once created the Empire of Italia, had twins and named the eldest Mario, and the youngest Luigi, carried on a strong lineage of men called Mario, and Luigi, until I took the Kingdom of Burgundy, annexed Croatia, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, and finally I took the decision to reform Italia starting as Duchess Matilda of Tuscany... well my game crashed, and then corrupted in a war against an Emir of Sicily before I could take the decision, so yeah basic ck3 shenanigans...

I once started as her in my long term campaign to get the beacon of progress achievement and recreate the Roman Empire. She has a really easy start because she starts with a favorable vassal contract (no vassal tax) and actually very good relations with the Emperor. Once you annex a few of your neighbours and have enough land to declare yourself Queen of Italy (only the northern part of todays Italy at first, you can reintegrate Sicely later), the emperor will happily grant all of his unruly Italian vassals to you without you even asking. You can then further expand into Southern Italy and the Balkan region all while still being a good vassal until you are ready to rebell and form the Empire of Italy. Or you could get into a marriage alliance with the Emperor and have your heirs be related closely enough that they are eligible for the succession vote. I swear in my campaign I was actually elected Emperor of the HRE by accident (playing as her grandson). Italy is also just a very neat region to play in it because it starts with many already highly developed counties and spots to build universities.

Well, "won" over the HRE is a bit over the top, as Henry IVs retreat back to the empire was cut by the southgerman rulers. After Matildas marriage was practically over (even though it technically still existed), he was able to return back and consolidate his rule over the HRE.

I wouldn't consider it a drawback to her specific character then. unless it's more difficult with her specifically, but I think it's actually easier. There are perks that let you reform with far less piety, and she's in a good position to take power within the faith. Just rush that.
