I am an agnostic who does not believe in the God of the Bible. I too feared death but I overcame it in a completely different way. Firstly I realised that there is no Hell so I don't have to fear an afterlife, secondly I realised that there is no eternal soul. Whenever we lose consciousness (through sleep or for any other reason), the thing that we think of as "I" dies. Of course the body remains alive but that is just a vessel for our consciousness. Every night I die and every morning, a new consciousness arises to inherit the body. Therefore by dying every time I go to sleep I know there is nothing to fear in death. When the body dies it can no longer host consciousness and that is the end of "me". I will forever rest in peace - free of the fear of a cruel and vindictive god.

@@manuellayburr382 I dunno man, like 90 percent of religions say that there is a heaven or hell and a supernatural being who will judge your deeds. Personally, I just try to be a good person, don't cause trouble, not being rude or being a jerk, being helpful and loving as much as I can. If I do meet bad people I just avoid them and if they mess with me I just tell them that they have attitude problem and how to correct it then tell them farewell. If there is not heaven, that would suck because I am planning to go there and have a very long vegation with some of my family and friends and pets. Otherwise, I would just ask the creator to send me back to earth as cowboy or something as I love horses, texan culture and I love roaming the desert.

It took many years until I realized: Jesus didn't promise us health + wealth + party life. He promised us to be with us, to carry us through. No pain in the world is foreign to Him, He has experienced it Himself. Therefore we can trust Him even in the dark valleys of life when we don't know the why. And thank Jesus suffering + death don't have the final word. I have fallen in love with Jesus forever.

I know someone that got too full into it that it was the only thing she focus on. It wasn't great. Hence have a love and hate relationship with religion. I know it's not entirely religion fault, it's also up to how people process it. So just wanna say, to not just focus on accepting and loving God, as much as you must love God and spread the good news, you must also love your neighbor.

I had many years of depression. I gave up carbohydrates because I wanted to lose weight (I was headed toward diabetes). Remarkably, my change of diet completely cured not only my tendency towards diabetes but also my depression. I still have my ups and downs like anyone else but those long periods of despair that came out of nowhere for no reason, have completely gone. I am not religious so why am trying to help others by telling you this? According to you, I should selfishly keep it to myself and laugh at those who are still suffering. Why do you believe that? It makes no sense for us all to be naturally cruel. The world contains both kind people and cruel people. I, for some reason, and without being forced into it by an old book and fear of a scary Daddy in the sky, want others to have heathy and happy lives. What's so strange about that?

@@manuellayburr382Except you believe that you're doing such a thing by your own volition, when you're doing it because you were raised in a society founded on Christian morals. True morality is not self evident as you appear to think it is. There are people in Africa who are selling their children so that warlords can bathe in their blood because they think it makes them immortal. They also sell their children for even worse purposes. They sure don't think their kids are priceless like we in the west do because God has taught us this. You see similar behavior in tribal societies all the time. These people are as close as humans will get to wild animals in the current day, and you can see that wild animal behavior in them. Murder, rape, theft, pedophilia, assault, and so on are all things that are perfectly acceptable in these societies. You were raised on God's law. Try making the claim that rape is bad when you're raised in the plains of Africa as a child soldier.

I have had a horribly miserable life. Which started, for me, the day I was born. I have suffered tremendously. So, I have drank and done drugs too much, to blot it out. A few weeks ago, halfway through a bottle, something grabbed me. I immediately threw away the rest of the bottle. I then focussed in what I felt and started doing several other things that seemed ‘right’ and I cleaned up other bad habits. And then…I considered, ‘Why am I suffering and what do I do now?’ I received an answer and I no longer question my relationship with something I don’t know how to describe. All I can say is, following Biblical teachings led to me finally getting ‘clear’ and understanding why I have suffered. It’s been amazing and nothing short of seemingly miraculous. I say ‘seemingly’ because I believe our relationship with creation should be a natural, every moment thing. Our societies just aren’t oriented towards that teaching.

At the YMCA today, while walking in, I noticed a very large Bible. It was opened to Psalm 23. Yes that famous Psalm. And I read it out loud. Later I got on the treadmill to work out and felt stronger and thanked God for giving me a second chance after five stents were put in my heart in April. Why would I bother if I did not believe. Why go it alone? I'm a Christian because it makes sense, its view of humanity and human nature are I think the closest to reality and the fallen nature of man. I wake up every day knowing that God, that oh so infinite powerful God, whose work we see each day if we look, became infinitely low for us and WALKED THE WALK and suffered as a human being to save us because he loves us. I will take that and run with it for what little life I have left compared to....nothing. I'm not afraid now. I don't have to go it alone. He became one of us for us, and that is good enough for me. Thank you God...the Father...the Son...and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I was tortured by the obsession to drink. After hitting bottom I turned to God. I really asked him for help with all my heart. The obsession to drink was removed for me right then and there. That wasn’t me because I would have done it many years ago if I could have. This was a spiritual experience that really showed me that God not only exists but he will help me if I let him. Teresa of Calcutta The Kiss of Jesus I never forget one day I met a lady who was dying of cancer, and I could see the way she was struggling with that terrible pain. And I said to her, I said, "You know this is but the kiss of Jesus, a sign that you have come so close to Him on the cross that He can kiss you." And she joined her hands together and said: "Mother Teresa, please tell Jesus to stop kissing me.

It truly does bring us together. I bought a simple gold cross when I came to believe and just thought hey, it makes me feel better and maybe if people see it, they might just think, huh? why is that guy wearing a gold cross around his neck? and they might just look into it. So yesterday I go into a small mini market, the kinds all over the U.S. that are owned by Koreans. The woman there barely spoke english and was wearing a cross, she asked me "what church do you go to?" and I said well, I don't really go to church but I definitely consider myself christian. She smiled and put her hand on mine. It was something really special.

There is so much anger toward Christians for Who we believe in and experience. We are constant reminders that there is more out there to experience and be part of . It is the opposite of pride and self. Maybe that is why there is so much anger. People don't like to die to self. I pray that what is heart knowledge for us becomes more than head knowledge for people struggling with who God is. Its hard being a Christian in many ways but the relationship with God makes it so worth it.

If survival is the main driving force behind evolution, why did the idea and worship of God ever powerfully surface to begin with, and why hasn't it been weeded out yet? It appears God is useful to our survival and even thriving.

The idea of god appeared because humans are the only creatures to be fully aware that they will die (and probably of some horrible disease). That idea is so scary that it is of great comfort to pretend there is the possibility of a happy afterlife. This has nothing to do with evolution - it's just a coping mechanism. You might as well say that evolution did or didn't cause a belief in Santa Claus.

When judgment day comes for all of us, every knee will bow and confess the Christ. On that day, some will say that God favored those who followed him. One reason good people experience bad things is so that God can measure the unbelievers against them and say, "Look at these my faithful. They endured all the world has to throw at them and they stayed faithful to me." Because of Jesus Christ, all pain, infirmity, and sin are temporary. One day, in Jesus Christ, everyone can find rest. Even in pain and sorrow, we can experience joy because of Jesus Christ.

"I was blind....until I found the light of Islam....of atheism...of Buddhism, etc..."Legitimate question here. How does the fact that people poetically describe finding Christ show that it's actually objectively true, when others do the exact same thing with every other worldview and religion? After all, we wouldn't believe what we believe (each individual) if we thought it was darkness or falsity. I've watched videos recently of people claiming to "come into the Truth" with a capital T of the 3 worldviews I mentioned above. All of them claimed the same thing but ended up at different destinations. How do you explain this? Thanks for the video and commentary. Lennox is articulate and good natured, which I can appreciate.

1. Buddhism isn't really a religion, rather it's a philosophy, you can be buddhist and Christian. 2. There is no light in Islam (just read the quran fro yourself) or Atheism because there is no objective "light". The reason Christians claim it to be the 'truth' it because truth must come with proof, and Christianity has this proof, just read the Bible. Godbless.

Good question. I have three thoughts: 1. I don't think that it necessarily "proves" Christianity to be true. However, I do think that it is HUGE evidence for it. 2. The fact is that Christianity's 'hypothesis' is much different than any other religion's. Sure, there are lots of people whose lives are changed after converting to Islam, etc. But Christianity says that EVERY person's life will be changed by believing in Christ. Further, it gives specific guidelines to show exactly what that change will look like. And when tested, Christianity remains true every time. Christianity has a much larger 'test success rate,' as well as a much narrower 'success window' to land in. This gives Christianity a huge edge over other religions in this topic. 3. I think there's an important distinction to be made between "I found the truth" and "my life is totally changed." After all, you are correct that we wouldn't believe something we knew to be false. Therefore, EVERYONE believes that they have "found the truth" to some extent or another. But if I, for example, believed in the flying spaghetti monster, it would likely not change my life at all. But if I truly believe in Jesus Christ, it necessitates a dramatic worldview and lifestyle change that is unexplainable by anything else. Does that make any sense?

@@DrMontague I would agree with the lady if there was no reason for suffering. But, we experience pain because something is wrong. Which is a good thing because pain/suffering is an alert that if you continue down this path death awaits. Problem with us today is we think we’re suffering for no reason and that we have no fault. Trying to avoid suffering rather than understanding what is actually causing it only leads to more pain & suffering. If a child is suffering we think it unjust because the child hasn’t done anything worthy of it in our eyes. But, that’s what an inheritance is. It’s something that wasn’t earned by you specifically… & it’s a good thing when done in order. Although, when done out of order you can pass on things like sickness & debt but it’s all still an inheritance. Make yourself & your way of life the best you can, & that which is inherited will be good.

About what Lennox said in the beginning: There is a rational justification for the existence of morality without Gods or religion. It's simply survival (of the fittest). Because without the ability to live in a society where people cooperate, humans would not exist today in the way we know. The sense of right and wrong developed and evolved as we started to live in groups, and a group that doesn't cooperate does not survive. When it comes to multiple groups of people having different views, it again comes down to survival and the necessity to cooperate rather than annihilate. One group can try to dominate the others of course, but that would jeopardize the survival of humans (or at least the groups that fight), and possibly ending humanity. And ultimately, the existence of humanity is important for humans, simply because humans wouldn't exist without humanity. So we humans must ask ourselves, do we want to go extinct or do we cooperate with others and possibly delay our extinction. And we have survived this way in this universe: the survival of the fittest to reproduce.

As someone who did put their faith to the test, completelt abandoned it and almost lost my soul in the process, I can attest that Christianity is 110% testable, but I wouldn’t recommend doing so, at least not in the fashion I did. Jesus Christ is the word made flesh, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. It is through Him that we are saved from sin and death and transformed into the men and women that God originally intended for us to be.

The argument put forward in this video can be said for next to every religion/spiritual teaching. That is not to put down christianity because as is said by John Lennox, it`s an effective and reliable way for people to find their light. It`s merely pointing out that this isn`t only true for christianity. To me, it seems that there`s a genuine power in having a relationship with God. How you find God, differs. I can say this is my personal view - of course it is - but the accounts people give about finding God in different ways/teachings is not something I just personally believe. It`s well recorded all over the board.
