my upstairs ac kept tripping after 10min of being on. a handy man had told me to change my air filters first. im a new homeowner so i havent replaced the filters since owning the home..about 2 years. xD. anyway that fixed the problem. dirty filters cause high pressure and make the ac over work so change ur filters every 6 months.

You should change your filters more often than every 6 months as well. People buy new homes, and like you, fail to do preventative maintenance. It’s part of the cost of owning a home. This is why a mortgage, isn’t the only cost to consider when buying.

@@juanjoseguevara88 It actually happened to me TWICE! Once was a power cord that was not properly run through conduit and the edge of the metal enclosure cut through the power cord and shorted. Easy fix. The second time it was the compressor motor that went bad and had to replace the motor. that one was about $800. Guy who fixed it said that most times it is the capacitor.

"It takes a licensed contractor to order them from a local distributor"...Well in some areas this is true however one DOES NOT need to be licensed to order HVAC parts other than perhaps refrigerant, online. There are some distributors that voluntarily refuse to sell parts to locals so as to protect their customers, the local yokels that call themselves HVAC techs and the businesses they work for (by the way, plumbing suppliers, electrical suppliers used to do this too) however, it has become a practice that does nothing more than force the consumer away from their business to businesses on the internet that indiscriminately sell to anyone. Frankly, when I moved to Florida 15 years ago I was forced to maintain my own system because of the incompetence of the HVAC techs I dealt with back then having realized that I knew more than they did! I once asked one tech what superheat he measured on my system and he didn't have a clue what I was talking about! Subcooling would clearly be over this guy's head too...

My 240 amp AC breaker doesn’t trip. It’s the furnace 20amp breaker. But only once in awhile. And only started doing it after the thermostat was changed? It didn’t do it before??
@ramchillarege1658
@ramchillarege1658 Жыл бұрын
Odd.. Is it gas heat? And if so, 20 amp is unlikely too.. usually its 15 amp just for the inside blower. The relations ship to thermostat is no there, since gas rarely short-cycles. I'll check the cap on the blower fan .. and change it out once you have that pulled. To do so, you have to pull the blower -- not so straightforward but plenty of youtubes for that.

The circuit is overloaded and is drawing more amps than the breaker is designed for. Either don't run ac and dryer together or install a larger breaker. The breaker size is determined by the cables conductor size. If breaker wasn't tripping electrical fire may occur.

Help! My ac unit has worked for three years no problem. Since last summer It keeps tripping the breaker but sometimes it takes days before it will trip the breaker depending on how hot it is outside/how hard it's working. I also notice the fan will run but it will stop pushing out cool air shortly before it trips the breaker. Now it trips the breaker within 24 hours or less. Maintenance has been over six times and the only thing they've done is replace the water heater because I'm quite certain they broke the water heater by constantly tripping the breaker with their experimentation on the ac unit. They always seem to show up when I'm gone and when I get back they don't tell me what they did. So the ac works for a bit and then trips the breaker again. Then i have to put in a ticket again. I have no idea what is going on at this point other than it's the ac unit and they just don't know what they are doing. Any idea on what this could be?

Did someone overcharge the system? It is not uncommon for a less-trained (un) HVAC guy to put in a pound of freon and get on the road. Do that a few times and you have created a new problems..A good tech can figure this out.. with a little patience
@jharper2189

@@ramchillarege1658 They ended up replacing the entire a/c unit stating it was something to do with the compressor and the unit was old. So things were working fine for a few weeks and now we are getting a leak from the furnace. I'm assuming the condensation lines are clogged. I'm not aware of them putting any freon in the system.
@ramchillarege1658
@ramchillarege1658 Жыл бұрын
@@jharper2189 When you say "leak from the furnace" I am assuming you mean the indoor unit just about the furnace, where the coil sits (upflow). Note that the air-conditioner also works as a de-humidifer. The condensation is piped out of that and out of the house. It could just be the plumbing - shoddy install. A larger problem is when there is too much condensation or freezing of the coil. That would be more serious.. usually due to low freon - shoddy welding/brazing of the joints on a new system.
@jharper2189
@jharper2189 Жыл бұрын

My AC Breaker trips instantly when setting to cool. The outdoor unit is a Carrier 2020 model that was installed new last year. Anything ese I can try before having to call a tech? short on cash. 1. I tested the 3 compressor pins and they all show OL. 2. I disconnected the compressor to see if breaker would trip without it and breaker does not trip, Fan Spins also.(This makes me think there is not an issue with Breaker nor contactor and maybe it is an issue with the compressor or wiring.) 3.
