I Broke my ankle 3years ago on a trampoline. I went straight to the hospital but they said it was just a sprain and sent me off with crutches. I went to my physio a week later as I was still in major pain he referred me to an MRI as something wasn't right. The MRI shows that i had 2, 75% torn ligaments, a fracture in my ankle and I had practically snapped my growth plate in 2. (Pretty bad injury you could say) I was put in a cast for 8 weeks and after this it still wasn't healed so a moon boot for another 10 weeks. After this I still couldn't walk and I had been in major pain for 18weeks. I went for another MRI and nothing but one of the fractures to my ankle was healed and infact the 2 ligaments were now completely torn though. I was booked in for surgery which ment another 5weeks in a cast. After this and a shit load of rehab.. 2 years later my ankle is about 90% although it will never be fully healed. Big journey from when the hospital thought I was fine on day 1.

Jenna Underhill I hurt mine and they did the same thing took xray didn't see anything so sent me off with crutches and said it was a Sprain, 6 - 8 weeks to heal. After that I try walking and at the end of everyday my foot swells up pretty bad. So I go back and get sent to new doc where I get MRI and shows 8 have stress fractures all around ankle. Most of it has healed but it's been 9 months since injury still can't walk 5min without ankle swelling up. Go to the doc and all they say is keep staying off it.

I badly sprained my ankle my Freshman year of High school in track. My ankle went sideways and turned inwards... I still have major pain in my foot around that area.... I'm now a Junior and I'm having pain in that same area still to this day.... This happened two years ago and it still feels like how it felt when I sprained it. I quit track this year to avoid anymore pain and possibly making it worse... I'm lucky to say I didn't break my ankle at all....

Same here man. I injured my ankle back in August of 2018. I still struggle with it on a daily basis after going through various amounts of treatments and physical therapy. Finally breaking down now and looking into possibly getting some type of surgery now. I used to be active and in the gym everyday beforehand. Ever since, I've had a mental block from the injury and terrified of dealing with the pain how it was when I very first injured it. I couldn't put any weight on it whatsoever for about the entire first month.

I think with sprained ankles people think they are making a fuss if the seek medical help when it is "only a sprained ankle". I did the same when I did it last year...now six months down the line and still in pain. After a bit of research on the internet I am booked in to see a physiotherapist who is going to scan the ankle to see what is wrong. He said the problem with sprained ankles is people carry on as normal and don't treat it. When I did injury it I heard a crack but as I could walk (well limp) on it I thought it was ok. There was a lot of swelling and bruising but that is normal with a sprain. I was out walking my dog after a few days (very slowly!!) Now still in pain I hope I haven't left it too late.

It’s been about 8 or 9 months since I sprained my ankle, day one of me walking again, I sprained it. Again. Then I waited 6 months, I got healed and didn’t sprain it again, but since those two sprained on the same ankle when I kinda twist my ankle or my foot, it’s crackles. Like every bone in my foot was crushed or crushing up an already crushed bag of chips. And when I checked it to see where I need to move my foot to make it do that, it was under my big toe, so whenever lower my big toe downwards it crackles and when I hold it doesn’t. I just wanted to ask if that’s normal after two on ankle sprains on the same ankle?

I sprained my ankle exactly like your showed in the video, its over 8 months now and still has inflammation and While I can walk properly but the extreme ends of the range of motion of the ankle are not achievable and cause pain, like sitting in squat position or climbing high stairs. After looking at the MRI the doctor suggested my ultrasound therapy for 20 days which didn't help at all. two days back I was given an injection of what they referred to as "Depo" might by a short form of some medicine in the ankle and right now it is inflammation more than before. Can you please help me out in it as I am from India and cannot possibly visit your clinic.

Sprained my very first ankle at 26 years old. Turned out to be an avulsion fracture, so was in a boot for 6 weeks, did PT, had some plantar fasciitis afterward, but that slowly went away. Feels like I never sprained it to this day. Sprained the opposite ankle a year later, they just told me to be in a boot for 2 weeks and I had a grade 2 tear in 3 ligaments. Xrays showed no fracture. Go back for another X-ray weeks later, turns out, I had an avulsion fracture, they didn’t tell me to be in a boot. 2 years later, it’s still incredibly terrible. Can’t walk for long or stand for long without soreness and stiffness. Surgeons said I dont need surgery based on my MRI, so I did my first PRP injection with regenexx a week ago. Praying this is all I need. This will be my third time doing PT on this ankle.

Hello, I am recovering from a 5th Metatarsal Fracture, I've had 6 week of NWB. Had my 2nd Xray and my Doc. told me I was good to start walking in a supportive boot like hiking boots right from NWB to FWB and would be able to play Hockey again in a month (think he was being a bit optimistic) . I obviously couldn't go straight into FWB but ive been moving along fast, 1st day used small walking boot and one crutch, 2nd day I was walking FWB in just a walking boot with a just few pins of pain behind the ankle once in a while (using a hiking boot on the good foot to balance my height). Day 3 I started going up and down stairs pain free other then in my first few walking steps in the morning. Its now day 4 I am relatively pain free other then a prick around my ankle just a couple times a day and first steps in the morning. How long should I wear the walking boot for? I was planning on doing 6 days then move to hiking boots and a ankle brace. I am doing my ABC's and circles with my ankle 3 times daily along with plenty walking fallowed by equal time rest and elevation.

In general I think your plan is very logical but this is one of those situations where there just isn't a way to give you good advice online. Go by what your doctor says but I think it is always a good idea to get a 2nd opinion. Find a good sports medicine podiatrist or orthopedist and see if they agree with your current doctor.

I have this injury (going on about a year now). I wear a brace for running and just deal with the pain afterwards. I realize I am getting older (47) and being ex army...well i just have old army bones. I refuse to stop running and working out. I take aleve and just wear my brace daily. It stays somewhat swollen all the time. I just deal with it. It is still as hell in the morning and loosens up by mid morning.

2 months ago I sprained my ankle in basketball, but kept playing and just toughing it out and then I rolled the ankle one more time (felt a crackin' feeling) went to the docs and had an xray done, no fractures noted. I had the xray evaluated by multiple doctor friends and for sure there wasn't any fracture.I was given a brace to wear for a month and then to take it off and start physical therapy with the affected ankle (left ankle). 2 months after the sprain I still have pain and swelling on my ankle. Do I need to see a specialist or wear the brace another month?

I sprained my ankle a few months back (about 3) from going to block a pass in soccer by stretching out my foot. Before it locked the ball hit it and pushed my ankle out away from me. I could put no weight on it for about a half hour then walked home. Played ok it after a week of resting and foot went mainly numb on the top and swelled but could still play competitively. Finally got an opinion and doc said sprain. Got an X-ray and they say those look good but doc wants surgery but an MRI to be sure. I can run but it’s annoying with some pain and swelling after. I’m assuming no fracture based on xrays. I have not worn a brace or anything and managed to play on it regardless. Physical therapy hurt it worse. What could this be?

sprained my ankle 3 months ago, i went to the doctors 9 days after it had happened because i thought it was just going to heal on its own within a couple days. I got an x-ray, the x-ray showed just an old fracture that had happened years ago on the same ankle which is weird because i really don’t remember fracturing it before. I got an mri to see if it could have been something with my ligaments. The mri showed the same thing as the xray did. They sent me to the children’s hospital near me which really was no help, they just gave me a self pace pe note which my pe teacher still makes me do pe normally which is bs. My ankle still hurts the same and it hasn’t improved what so ever, if anything i feel as if it’s getting worse. I can walk on it fine with no excruciating pain but it hurts to do pretty much any thing else. It is always swollen and gets more and more swollen the more and more i walk and as the day goes on. I’m thinking i should go back to the doctors but i feel like they will say the same thing they said every other visit and not take me seriously. I've sprained my ankle a bunch of times but this last one was the worst, I was jumping off a knee high ledge when I rolled it skateboarding and it dislocated but popped back in place. I didn't rush to the hospital right away but after 2 months it still wasn't getting better so I went to the doctors and did xrays and MRI and it showed no breaks but they told me I had some torn ligaments and a bone bruise. I went through 6 weeks of physical therapy and that didn't do much to help. Here I am 6 months later and it still is sore as hell and doesn't seem to be getting any better, but unlike most people when they roll it and it hurts on the outside of the ankle my pain is on the inside of the ankle, I've lost range of motion and when I try to bend down into that further range of motion is when I feel pain like it's a tendon or ligament that is super tight or torn im not sure. Feels like it will never be the same :(

Sounds like u sprained your deltoid ligament. Those take a long time to heal. Up to a year. Keep doing PT and if it’s not better after a year, get another MRI and visit the doctor. Look into PRP and stem cell injections if surgery is not required. I see this was posted 4 years ago though. Hope you’re doing better.

I sprained my ankle 9 weeks ago, bad sprain. On day five went to the doctor, they took x rays and said no breaks but bad sprain and gave me a brace to wrap on my foot wearing it under my shoes for five weeks. Went back, swelling went down lots of the pain left but on going down steps still discomfort. Doc took more x rays and told me I didn't have to wear brace and put me in therapy for six-eight weeks for twice a week I go. Ankle got better but sometimes swells when I do lots of activities and is sore in the back and sides - is this normal? The therapist says I need balance exercise which we do and that it will get better. I have about three more weeks of therapy. I just don't know why it still swells up after a busy day. How long before it gets back to normal. I also have arthritis in my ankle. Thanks for any opinions on this.

I sprained my ankle in the most dumbest way I was skipping and tripped on my friends foot and I got a massage it was healed within a week or two after that and it’s almost been a year now and now it’s randomly having these moments where it just starts hurtingAnd I am a dancer and it doesn’t hurt that bad but I don’t want to kind of tell my parents because then I would have to go to the doctors and most likely get some sort of thing on my foot and probably not gonna be able to do dance for a few weeks I love dancing too much to sacrifice myself to not go for a few weeks
@Footankle
@Footankle 11 күн бұрын
I understand, but here is the problem with that plan. If the injury is not treated correctly now, it can lead to much worse problems later on. This could put you in a situation where you must stop dancing for a much longer time later on. I see this all the time - people not willing to give up a few weeks of their activity to let an injury heal and then having to take off months later on. Please get it checked out.

I sprained my ankle close to a year ago as far as I know it has healed but when I turn it a certain way to check if it healed completely I can still feel pain around the ball of the ankle . I didn't wear a brace or see a doctor and I was exercising days and weeks afterwards . I twisted my ankle walking I could barely walk for a couple days and it was swollen . I hope I didn't cause any permanent damage to it . I just bought an ankle bracelet today and I am looking at some videos for rehabilitation I hope that maybe that ca. Help heal what didn't heal properly or whatever is still causing the pain . Thank you .

I once sprained my ankle 5 years ago, the first it was swollen but it was fully recovered within 2 weeks and I was able to do all kind of spots. But now after 5 years later I have again sprained my ankle and it's been more than 2 months and I still feels inflammation and difficulty to have full range of motion tho I am able to walk normal but I can't twist it like I was able to do it earlier. I don't know if it's permanent or will take time for complete recovery.

Back in like February I rolled my left ankle really hard and could hardly walk on it. The next couple days it still hurt to walk on but not as as bad. Since then it was fine until did something to it again playing basketball back in June. I was jumping up pretty high for the ball and when I landed I came down on my left foot first and then it just buckled when I hit the ground really hard. I when this happened I also heard a crunch sound. I had to sit out for like 5-10 mins and then I finished the game. Idek how I did. But later that night it really started hurting. So much so I woke up in my sleep because my ankle was on fire the way it was resting. I could hardly move it. And it was sore for a while. Since then I feel like my left ankle has been weakened. I notice that it rolls much more easily now I feel. It's not really a problem for me but I'm just wondering is this what's wrong with my ankle then? Thanks

I fractured my ankle (lateral malleolus) last July. It did not require a surgery because the ankle bones were in alignment, and it healed well. I would already jog after about three months. By December my ankle was completely fine. Or so I thought. Last January I made a couple interval sprinting sessions and since then my ankle has been a mess. I cannot walk with it long distances and it always feels stiff and weak. It feels like something is wrong with my ankle, I just feel and sense it. I had an MRI in the late February and it revealed that I had a tear in Syndesmosis and Medial ligaments. And I had a partial split tear in my peroneal brevis tendon. My ortho thinks that it should not require a surgery though. Do you think I caused more damage to my ankle in January when I made those interval sprinting sessions? I have tried to rehab my ankle lately with many kinds of different programs, but my ankle just gets aggravated. Rest improves things somewhat, but once I start to walk and rehab more the stiffness, mild pain and feeling of "something not being right" in my ankle instantly returns. I'm getting a bit desperate with this situation. What should I do?

+Alok Bakshi There are a number of potential causes of this continued pain but the most common is a condition called chronic lateral ankle instability. This happens to about half of patients who suffer an ankle sprain. This is really something that should be evaluated and treated by an expert. I recommend finding a podiatrist in your area with expertise in sports medicine. In the meantime you can find detailed information on this problem including home treatment hints here: www.footankle.com/ankle-conditions/unstable-ankles/

Foot & Ankle Center of Washington I went to the best doctor in this city, he says I have a condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
@Footankle
@Footankle 8 жыл бұрын
+Alok Bakshi Erlers-Danlos can certainly make it harder to heal from an ankle sprain as you would not have normal production of collagen. This can lead to weak joints. The ankle sprain is still treatable in the same way, but it will take longer to heal and you would likely need to wear an ankle brace for a longer time - up to 6 months after the injury. Also, if this is the first you have heard of this diagnosis, I would certainly recommend a second opinion.

Man what is this shit? I'm in a similar situation, 6 weeks off and can't go to work because of this. Did you try wearing an ankle brace for a couple weeks? I'm trying this out now, I just bought it last week as I figure out there's nothing else I can do. I tried lifting myself on toes, standing on one leg and it made things even worse the next day. The thing that causes me the most pain is walking down the stairs.

I completely ruptured my atfl in my left ankle on April 4th this year. My podiatrist put me in a walking boot for 4 weeks and then an ankle brace until now. I am a hospital nurse who works 12-hour shifts 3 times a week and I just returned to work last week. I'm 50 and my dr told me my atfl, at my age, will not grow back. Why would I not choose surgery to fix the ligament if I have a 20% chance of reinjury? I don't want to wear the brace the rest of my life. I am doing PT for the next 6 weeks but if a ligament is missing, why would I not want to fix that? I don't want to be older and regret not taking care of that. I am still having pain but am told this injury takes a long time to heal.

I sprained mine 1week first day from first second I hold it in cold water for a few hours, didn’t have ice, second day afther 14hours had to walk, I was in my grandma vilige & had to help her gather the grapes & most time doing this I stood on a small chair, rested when I got home, 4th day I had to return to the city took a bus, and 3 days in a row had a 20min walk to my job as slow & carefull as posible but every time I returned from job the foot will be a bit swollen again in the ankle area it’s that normal it doesen’t seem to hurt, but I think I kind of got scared to walk normal, it’s still a bit purpule along the foot but under the ankle area, also it’s kind of hard to flex it left & right like I can do with my left one, hope it’s alright haven’t sprained my ankle from several years ago to bad I was way younger that time & didn’t realise you should rest afther, but 2 years ago I was still able to jump from down the floor directly on the table like when I was little, now that I have 2 days off hope I can rest & recover

I have rolled my right ankle probably about 25 times and my left only a few times, my right ankle gives me pain quite regularly, I have been to the hospital just a few times but all they do is x-ray it and send me home in a bandage. I remember the very first time I did it, I was about 7 years old and I jumped off some stairs from about the 5th one up, I landed heavily and rolled my right ankle, I was in unimaginable pain and for a 7-year-old, it was not nice, they x rayed it and put it in a bandage, since then it has not been the same, I loved playing football but had to give it up quite early as I kept twisting my ankle, especially without any strapping on it, now I'm feeling the consequences of playing a sport I loved when rolling my ankles was not a rare occasion, to say the least. ;(

I try using my leg muscles but then my ankles hurt. When we stretch we do pointer toes and flexed feet. You know that feeling where you point you’re toe and it’s about to crack? Yea it begins to hurt right when I point it and just put weight on it which I think causes my knees to feel like fragile glass or sum. What could it be??

I sprained my right ankle about 6 months ago and my left ankle 4 and a half months ago, I believe they were both grade 2 sprains. For some reason none of my ankles have properly healed yet. Do you think with proper rehab I will be able to recover from this injury? I’m trying to make the Varsity next year. I’m scared that my ankles will always be in pain and I will get arthritis.
