Why Does Nobody Use The Batmobile/Plank in Rocket League?

It's my most precious car. The Batmobil '16 isn't hard to learn, you need to use it in order to understand it, and eventually tame it.

We have all had that moment, where you line the perfect flick, only to launch the ball into Saturn's Orbit, that is the Batmobile letting us know, that your skill is granted by it's grace alone, and it can just as easily shatter your own will, as that of your opponent, if you don't respect the timing of the flick just right!

With how much more prevalent the demo meta becomes every season, the point made of the plank being an anti-demo playstyle could potentially make it a contender for an interesting counter-meta if any pros decided to adopt it again. Great videos, with this level of quality and polish, it's only a matter of time before the algorithm picks this channel up. Maybe aiming for a slightly longer length could help, possibly 8-10 minutes long?

@@NorthstarUK I think you're doing great! The thing I've always thought was lacking in content about rocket league is documentaries on the history of the meta, cars, and overall game environment. Some people do talk about it in their streams or videos, but I think that you're doing something great with the way you're putting it together. I do agree with the other comment about video length being something to increase. It would be very cool to see this game and its progression investigated, celebrated, and discussed with in-depth attention to detail and an eye towards the big picture, to the extent that the entire scene deserves but hasn't yet fully realized.

I gotta be honest I never really got the 'meta' with the cars since I think their differences are so small, and I am sad seeing everyone just use the Octane when there is so many more unique cars you could use. That being said I quess it makes me feel proud in a sense that I've always used 'off meta' cars. Mantis has been my main ever since it came out and I am contending for GC with it, and before that my main car was none other than the Scarab haha

The issue is that as you climb higher in rank the speed of play picks up drastically. Which means that issues that seem small at lower ranks get much bigger at higher ranks. Maybe one car can only turn .05 faster than another but when you and the opponent are playing at the fastest speeds that .05 can mean the difference between reaching the ball vs your opponent. People also don't want to devote their time to a car that they feel as though they won't be able to use when they get up in the higher rank because then they will feel as though they need to learn a new car once they do. However, you mentioned that you are contending for GC in the mantis which is awesome! It means you've spent a lot of time in that car and I personally think knowing the ins and outs of an off meta car can actually be a benefit because it allows you to make plays other people might not expect right away because they are so used to meta cars. While meta cars may be the most optimal at higher levels of play, that doesn't mean that there isn't value to knowing an off meta car. It can even be apart of your strategy in a show match. So if you enjoy an off meta car don't feel bad! It may actually give you an advantage in certain scenarios!

I think one of the things that also ruined the batmobile’s popularity/meta viability was a bug that went unpatches in the game for a bit where it’s physics suspension would load improperly or get stuck often when transitioning from a jump off the side wall and onto the ground. Wavedashing I think was also becoming more meta at this point and the long hitbox of the car also made wavedashes harder or glitch out. Much later, Once flip resets came onto the scene I think that also hurt plank cars because it’s trickier to land all four tires onto the ball with a wheelbase that long. Great videos. I’m late to discover them but really enjoying the series ❤

You forgot to mention that when they changed the batmobile hitbox to the plank, thats the biggest reason it lost all its popularity. After awhile , epic ended up moving the batmobile 2016 back to its original size, (but by that time it was too late) making it again, its unique hitbox and I believe it's the only unique hitbox in the game RN. Only reason I know this is because I mained the batmobile for years. Even got GC for the first time with it back in OG season 7 i think.

@trentwalker9223 It seems when they reverted batmobile 16 to its original stats after the initial change, they also changed all plank hitboxes to match. So you are right. I did not catch this change since when they reverted the plank hitbox, I had already moved onto another hitbox type. Ive been playing this game too long... lol

The batmobile is great at 50s. Thats why fairy played it and switched between flick and low 50s where the opponent had to guess and only had a 50/50 chance to guess right

I must say , one car that doesn't get enough respect that it deserves is the Hotshot. I tried it one day as a joke and it ended up becoming my main car for about 1.5 years. It felt really nice but I did eventually transition back to octane. I felt like the Hotshot felt more responsive for ground dribbling, but the octane feels more nimble during aerials and air maneuvers. I will say the octane is better but don't sleep on the Hotshot, it served me extremely well in the time I used it.

First time reached GC in 2v2 was a few weeks after i switched to the batmobile. I really like the car and still think its usefull but nowadays i play Octane/Dominus and sometimes switch back to the Batmobile for variety

For demos it doesn't really work both ways imho. Harder to demo a plank for sure. However, with a plank, you can flip sideways to use width instead of height when demo'ing. Which is a good way to secure demo's no matter the car... merc aside maybe (ofc risky, but such is demos)

I use the batmobile as a main car in gc1 and have to say that the only time where bad 50's sometimes occure, are at the kickoffs. When having 50's mid game I really dont see any downside using the plank hitbox :)

Yeah he's wrong about 50s, the plank is litteraly the best one for 50s, it's problem is that it's almost impossible to be consistant with it, at least that's the reason fairy peak (the best batmobile player ever) has stopped playing with it, other than that it's pretty much the most op hitbox there is.

@@azsaroar7496 sad kuxir noises i can agree that consistency is a problem, i still struggle to execute certain mechanics or sometimes even shooting with the paladin because the front of the car is so flat. I just switch car when i really can't play correctly with it but usually that problem does not happen often
