I must admit. Got my boat in the water for the first time out for the season. Hadn’t tested my outboard in a bucket. Couldn’t start it. It is a sailboat, so by that point, it was almost 2.5 hours from getting it out of my garage, mast and sails set up, and launched. So I decided it was time to learn to sail off the dock. Going out was fine, returning was hard. 3 times other boats pulled past me to take the spot on the dock I was lining up for. Had to do a U turn and set up again. Finally worked on the 4th attempt. Pretty dumb. It is a lake and so not real dangerous, but I’ve had plenty of times the wind just dies off. Even with two paddles, it wold be a long way back to the dock.

That 70hp trim to high up for a cold engin. The carburetor floats tilt to 30° lean out. To get it right is to trim level top of cowling 1st then in nuetral 2nd pull throttel overide peddel up 20% then just swing till start and rev 2500rpm for 1min to get enjin temp up. If not starting then press choke. If not right in gear under load. Take boat out home. Carburetor as blocked durty jets. Pilot and main.

Why do these people put the trailer so far into the water?? Does anyone know how to properly trailer a boat. Its not rocket science... Simply put the tailer into the water until 1/2 of the wheels are under water. Let the boat settle and center on the boards. Do not let the boat "float" over the trailer , then hope the boat centers itself. boggles my mind. NO NEED TO PUT THE TRAILER SO DEEP. Then simply drive the boat up, it will center itself.

It seems that a lot of these boaters put the trailer too deep or too shallow. I have a boat, smaller than most I see on this channel, fresh water but i know the sweet spot to get the right depth so when i pull onto the trailer it snuggles right in the bunks. I watch the fenders on the trailer and when about 1/2 inches are above the water it's right, deeper it will float off, shallower it wont go far enough on the trailer for an easy crank out. I wonder if any, most, of these boaters have any idea about the right depth.
