Xeno players aren't asking for their faction to go Super Sayan (like Imperium has TWICE now with Primaris and now Custodes), we just want our stuff kept up to date. Way too many of the kits are way too old. GW is putting out *beautiful* models these days, so there's no excuse in my mind.

But then again I've always loved anything not human, I am a human irl, so get to play one every day, when I do a game like this I personally want to be anything but a human. It is sad that GW keeps xenos around as pretty much filler, they have so much potential and the models are great.

I think with the galaxy being split in half after the fall of Cadia, GW has the perfect opportunity to show Xenos some love. The Earth side of the rift is still the Imperium's home territory, while the eye of terror is still Chaos, but the side of the imperium cut off from Terra could easily fall apart and have it's planets taken over by Xenos, maybe with a few bastions of the imperium holding out like the Blood Angels. Would be a great place to set an expansion of the Tau, a new Ork Empire, or a big Tyranid invasion, while also keeping it fairly separate from the Man vs Chaos war.
@LeonNFG7 жыл бұрын
Min NSMH could even have ork Waaghs against the Tau, ss the old hegemony looses hold another steps up to grab more territory, but with expansion comes the need for military to defend the holdings, which could also lead nicely into gradual changes and splits in the Tau - aided by the growing size, and increased autonomy of regions further away.

With the separation and seclusion it could allow for more Imperial world's to join the Greater Good for protection, thus further expanding the Tau Empire and building on their tension with the Empire and other races.

It's kind of weird that there is a "main story" in 40k, from the perspective of a Warhammer Fantasy player. Before Age of Sigmar came around, every army was the strongest and the best according to their codex, with humans being just a blip on the radar. Nobody at my game store even played humans, they were kind of underrepresented. Everyone loved vampires, and skaven, and orcs, and lizardmen, and dwarves. You can ask "ok what's the story of 40k?" and someone would answer with the Horus Heresy. If you ask "what is the story of Warhammer Fantasy?" There just isn't an answer. The betrayal of Malekith for Elves, the invasion of Lustria by Clan Pestilens, the Lady of the Lake for Bretonnia, Nagash for the Undead, they all had their stories and none was above the others as the posterchild of the setting. Then I bought some Necrons, I got into 40k, and got into their lore, the C'tan, the War in Heaven etc., and it took me a long time before I realised there was "a primary conflict" and they were a secondary faction.
@arsesmith3467 жыл бұрын
yeah, the old fantasy setting was much better at giving all the factions equal footing. it was more balanced in its approach. with 40 K it feels like "why did they even make armies for these other factions?".

My introduction to Warhammer 40,000 was the 1st Dawn of War strategy game, and it’s campaign. I was fascinated me was the conflict of all the well defined species with vastly different, but still intersecting, aesthetics and moralities. More than one of them could have been viewed as in the heroes, yet they were all set on a course of annihilating of the others. I’m talking of course about the imperial guard, Elder, and Tau & Kroot. Even the orcs were strangely sympathetic, because it didn’t feel like they really acted with a true form of malice or prejudice. The Imperium caught my attention because of the tragedy its dystopia and racial prejudice towards other rational species. Chaos was interesting to me just because my teenage self had never seen so much gore in any fictional setting. I didn’t really know what the Horus Heresy was, just that it was some battle from way back when. For the last half decade the big focus has been Imperium versus Chaos, as a throwback to classic good versus absolute evil. That fits fine in the Warhammer FANTASY setting. But it’s precisely what makes Chaos boring to me in the sci-fi setting. Are the different aspects and branches of Chaos interesting? Definitely. Do things like the Demon Engines have some of the coolest designs in the entire setting? Absolutely. But I’m not intellectually invested in the conflict when one side unironically wears belts made of baby skulls. (Though again, I still appreciate the novelty that most settings won’t let their villains go that far into evil). In fact, when Chaos came into prominence again with the Great Rift, I actually felt extremely worried. I was worried GW was going to unceremoniously #}*~ing blow up the entire setting like they did with Fantasy. And I admit, even though I find them cool sympathetic, I think there’s something worrying about portraying the Imperium as the unironic “good guys.” Although I suppose that GW’s depending on people to look into the subtext after being taken in by the marines and battle nuns.
@MrMViceroy4 жыл бұрын
It was the main reason I loved fantasy so much. It had a much more diverse focus. There was no one "good faction" and "bad faction" like in 40k. It felt like a real world, because everyone had a stake in it and there were a lot of races who could be considered "the main guys" from their own point of view (even the Tomb Kings have a claim to this). 40k and AoS are, to put it in a nutshell, simpler. The good guy is over there, the bad guy is over there, and there are some other guys too (but don't worry about them, they'll never do anything to upset the status quo).

Back in October 2017, a few friends convinced me to buy into the warhammer universe. The main 2 player kit with the rulebook and chaos marines and space marines just didnt grab me. Looking over the product wall at my store one faction did grab me. Tau. Now I knew ABSOLUTELY nothing about the warhammer 40k universe at this time, but damn, that ghostkeel model and the riptide model and oh boy the stormsurge...damn, those were sexy models. A Tau starter set later plus their index I was ready to take the plunge. Thanks to those Xeno models I delved into the warhammer lore focusing on the Tau empire and of course the Horus heresy lore. From their I've been hooked. So absolutely GW needs to focus on the Xeno's and make them bigger players. I'd love to see a book with the Necrons encountering the Tau, or the Tyranids invade a major human trade world that the Tau just happen to have been "observing" and they offer their aid. So much story potential with the Xeno's.

I think the big problem is you can not play "Xenos" in the same way you play chaos or imperium. For example if you play space marines you will possibly buy the new custodies stuff to add to your current army, but if say they announced a huge new range of orks; people who play eldar, necrons, tau, and nids wouldn't really care because they can't use it in their current armies.

Necrons need more major interactions with the main parties, they are one of if not THE oldest races in the world, definitely one of the most technologically advanced, and they have some (admittedly less unique characters than there should be) and we have some of the most terrifying items, be it ship, weapon or troops, we have things whose sole purpose is the extermination of all life it can find, we have entrapped and shattered star eating gods and somehow, Somehow!! We get so little fluff in the grand scheme, one of our characters is the Collector from marvel kicked up to 11. Our biggest boss character (not counting the silent king) Imotekh, is one of if not the best strategist to ever exist, (but still stumbles against orks) he would rather cut off the hand of an opponent to shame them, even if they might come back later to cause trouble. Also we have access to the web way, Trayzin the Infinite could and likely has, entered the emperors palace and walk out with one of the Emperors teeth. All our leaders are Crazy to varying degrees, one still thinks he is fighting the war in heaven. Wow that went into a rant, my bad. On a side note one thing I'd love to see, is for all xenon races to get a primaries type range of their own. (Also plastic models of all our characters because FUCK RESIN)

Here is some insider info I read, take with as much salt as you like but knowing GW this seems very likely: SM are no longer selling as well as they used to. It's due to the market being flooded with with them and you can get them for almost nothing from ebay and most shops have used armies trade days or sales. GW has decided to introduce Primaris Marines and to phase out regular marines in the coming years in order to maintain sales numbers. Every single SM kit is going to be replaced with Primaris replacements. You can still use the old models but the new Primaris kits will contain options not available to the current marines range. The current plan is to phase out all old kits in the next 5 years, the fluff is already advanced enough for some chapters that they have been completely replaced with Primaris marines. Chaos Undivided will get Primaris Marines to replace all the current kits, only the 4 chaos god chapters won't get them because their chaos infusions will get stronger to rival Primaris Marines. Fabius Bile is the source of Chaos Primaris and the book detailing it is being written as we speak. GW realizes that their product is aimed at kids but they can't afford to buy the products. This is why the focus on SM is so high because those armies are cool to kids whilst most xenos aren't. 93% of everyone who starts 40K has bought a SM kit, the problem is that when the people who got into 40K grow older their views change from SM being cool to SM being noob armies. So a large percentage of older players unload their starter SM armies and buy something cooler. As they are in a much more stable financial situation they usually sell the models for cheap just to get rid of them. 0.10-0.50 cents per models is almost the standard. The problem is two fold, prices are too high for kids and older players want to unload. The reason trades or sales are banned in most GW shops is because it undermines the sales of that shop. Shops have also become unfriendlier towards old customers as they do not want them as they don't buy as much as kids and if they introduce friends to the hobby they let them buy or borrow their models. A person introduced to the hobby through a gaming club or friends is likely not going to buy a single kit directly from GW. So because the sale of SM models have gone down so much GW introduced Primaris as it is believe that this will cover the lowered sales figures as it forces everyone to buy new models. There will be people who quit the hobby or simply refuse to buy the new kits/get bits from bits sellers but these are hobbyists who no longer contribute to the sales figures anyway. There will be new plastic kits for older marines but they are aimed at Horus Heresy players. All SM vehicles will also get redone with bigger versions for Primaris and with weapon options not available to the current ones. You can expect the first one before the end of the year. :End of Explanation: This is what I read from someone "in the know" last year and we did get the Repulsor but suck on that salt stone as much as you like. It was explained in more detail so what is above is probably not 100% accurate. To me it does seem plausible, who can deny that SM are aimed at kids and that kids are the focus market of GW even though they can't afford their products. How many in your local group or online friends started with SM and then unloaded them to play something "more interesting". SM are a noob friendly army, easy to understand rules, easy to paint, super hero fantasy etc etc etc As you get older you realize it and dump your army either because you got bored or to start something else. Heck if anyone came to our club and wanted to start playing SM they could get everything for 50-90% off retail, allot of starter edition marines they could get for free as they have no value. Why would they want to though when Primaris Marines from Dark Imperium are also a pump and dump army that you can get for cheap. Personally I'm guessing 2018 will be another power armour year, we will most likely get more Primaris kits and vehicles for them. Xenos will get their books of course but no new kits, at most old metal/failcast ones redone in plastic. Then again I'm insane so what the hell do I know.
@lesleyhutchinson70657 жыл бұрын
In my opinion I think the actual problem is that GW have changed the focus. In the early days of the hobby the focus was varied. The idea was war was everywhere for everyone. Xenos were important in that they have their own nemesis to deal with.
@kimonskretas56107 жыл бұрын
imo another issue is that most xenos are written in a manner of xenos vs imperium. So it's hard to have a huge clash of orks vs necrons where you could have huge things happen without threatening the imperium or the chaos vs imperium balance. I would like to see more things about the interactions of chaos with orks , necrons , tau or tyranids. Maybe a huge ork empire on top of a necrons tomb world or tau falling to chaos (propably not khorne).

I love the idea of more narrative push for Xenos/imperial or even Xenos/chaos conflicts and interaction. I agree that that's going to be one of the best, most organic ways of cementing the roles of Xenos races in the bigger universe (and driving up sales). If the great rift allowed for some actual dark side of the galaxy stuff to take hold, with desperate human populations fighting last stands against rampaging orks hordes, if the Tau race at large actually had to confront the reality of the Chaos threat in earnest, if maybe a consolidated Hive Fleet flourished on the Dark side of the Imperium to the point where it threatened both imperial citizens and Chaos's interests, if some Necron dynasties could stay awake long enough to start committing a genocide of psykers, for example, AND they all had the black library support (and maybe some new models to help the momentum), then I think we'd be looking at a very inclusive gaming community, and a lucrative alien renaissance for GW. Sounds win-win to me.

What bugs me about the apparent disregard shown to the non-Eldar xenos factions is that at least two of them, Necrons and Tau, seem to have a tangental connection to the main conflict and a potential place in it if GW only would choose to explore it. During the War in Heaven the Necrons routinely fought warp-spawned powers during the latter stages and have some know-how of how to defend and counter it. The Cadian Pylons are an obvious example and there are hints that an ultimate goal was to shut down the connection to the Warp in it's entirety. That would be an existential threat to the powers of Chaos but would presumably spell doom for the psychically attuned races as well. As for the Tau, their entire pre-starflight history have seen some external power interfere in their development, sheparding them and via the Ethereals shaping their culture into the driven and (nominally) united force it is in the 41st millenium. There are tantalizing hints in pieces of lore about who this external force could be and what the goal could be. Some hints point to the Tau being set up as a long-term solution to the Chaos problem: A non-psychic, entirely secular race, with souls barely even registering in the warp, slowly but surely expanding their influence and beliefs across the galaxy - something not entirely dissimilar from what the Emperor tried to accomplish during the Great Crusade. Either of these could make for interesting storylines that could slot into the main narrative if used correctly.

I’d like to see GW start incorporating Xenos into more of their advertising and marketing. I’m not saying make a bunch of huge Tyranid posters, but at least include some of them in the artworks shown around local stores. I think some army boxes with Imperium/Chaos vs a Xenos faction would also work really well. Starting with a Blood Angels vs Necrons box or Nurgle vs Tau would have been amazing instead of brand new Primaris vs brand new Deathguard. And for the love of all things holy can Eldar get some updated modes? All of their aspect warriors have aged badly, and the Warlock is freakin metal? I don’t think GW has to try very hard to get Xenos more attention or sales. The cycle they’ve put themselves into and that you have talked about isn’t impossible to get out of, or all that difficult. Simply integrating Xenos into more public access and letting people see them more instead of only showing of smurfs and bloodletters isn’t much to ask for. I wish GW would at least release some kind of statement that they’re going to do more than make different colored power armour. But I’m not surprised anymore. They killed the Tomb Kings and I feel like they’re gonna kill off the Necrons too. Whatever

I feel like model counts have a big part of this. Units with high points value tend to sell well. Races like orks and tyranids sit in a weird place in that they are exceptionally costly and difficult to collect and paint. If you want to get people playing orks, look at ways to either bring down their financial cost, or raise the cost/value of their troops (a bit like AOS has moved mostly over to their 'ardboys). Personally I like the idea of the tides of troops, but when you're adding armies with 20+pts troop choices, you're really changing the dynamic of the game. Frankly I have a hard time finishing a six turn game in under two hours at even 1500 points, let alone 2000 (which seems to be where a lot of tourneys are going). The game overall is in a really weird place, with a lot of players avoiding base-line troops. You see lots of imperial guard players with armies almost entirely comprised of tanks. you see battle reports for "high point games" where players don't have big armies, just a handful of high value toys. It's somewhat disappointing to someone who has come to these games from the glorious age of 4th ed (which was objectively the best edition).

I'll tell you what I want for Tau, is the ability to take Imperial Guard as allies and use them as Gue'la allies. There should be special rules for allying Astra Militarum with Tau Empire, and switching the special weapons for pulse rifles, like there was in the white dwarf special rules back in 4th or 5th edition or some shit. That would be super cool and add a lot of flavor to Tau Empire. Kroot could get their entirely separate codex.

I originally wanted to do Mechanicus for my first army, but I split the starter box with my brother, who said he wanted the marines, and then I picked up Necrons, thinking they're emotionless robots, why should I care. But then, when I got their codex, I started reading about them, and understanding what it meant. now I know that the Lychguard, lords, royal wardens, and Overlords have actual emotion, and character, and I LOVE them. They've been strangely been the one Xeno race, that is the most human. The Twice dead King Ruin, and Reign. The Infinite and The Divine. Those are amazing books, better than most books than most books featuring Astarties. I do hope that we get more love to the others, and that the Necrons, the main characters of 40k win, and become the true Warhammer 40,000.

Hell, I’d take some plastic aspect warriors, please. Building a lot of my army is still very expensive, and several in my faction have resorted to getting resin from China because no store carries aspect warriors here. They figure if they need to order from somewhere anyway, they might as well get a steeper discount.

Coming from a Warhammer Fantasy to this, I don't mind as much; the reason being, in Fantasy the later Codex is the better Codex. This is probably why they didn't release a Bretonnian Army Book. If they did, the Earth might have cracked under the pressure of getting an update after so many years of stagnation.

I see what you're saying about xenos being too much of a threat if they grow in scale or organise. However GW could always look at xenos vs xenos storyline arcs. For example, Tau growing too large and coming accross other races to push them back etc... I know that moves away from the POV of the imperium but it's a way to give them some love and demonstrate that their lore doesn't have to be linked to what the imperium is doing all the time. It feels like xenos are a strap on bad guy for imperium to destroy rather than their own unique race
@meganvincent53815 жыл бұрын
At the very least they should give the xenos more alliance options. That could give them an advantage for variety over the chaos and imperium.

Imperium vs Imperium games are 75% of the games i've played, so I usually start the game by calling my opponent a heretic. A second Damocles Gulf Crusade against the Tau would make me happy. If I get back into playing the game I'll be playing Imperium (Sisters), but I would love to purge some Tau, Sisters aren't great at melee but they can definitely punch some fire warriors to death. And the Tau players will enjoy shooting half my army off the table before I get there.

Think about how fantasy players feel. The exact same thing there. 40k was more popular so it got all the attention and marketing, so fantasy suffered, so 40k got more attention and marketing, so fantasy suffered. And then they just delete the universe and remove every trace of it like they are ashamed of it.

I think one way to do it is to emphasise struggles between other factions on different fronts, for example: Conflict 1 (Generic fight against chaos) Chaos vs Marines Cultists vs Cadians Grey Knights vs Deamons Conflict 2 (Eldar convince Tau to help secure tombworlds TechP are uncovering in Rak'Gol space) Necrons vs Eldar Tech-Priests vs Tau Rak'Gol vs Vostroyan Conflict 3 (Mankind reconnects with lost worlds, a new frontier opens up) Dark Eldar vs Sisters of Battle Orks/Space-Skaven vs Squats/Demiurg Kroot/Space-Skaven vs Praetorians Conflict 4 (Nids attacking Tau space start to seep into Mankind, mankind not knowing whether to take advantage of or help the Tau) Nids vs Tau Kroot vs Catachan Genestealers vs Deathwatch Just so long as it's good vs bad/ugly fight that can be illustrated to sell the products I don't think there has to be a space marine on display. (Though you could also do inner turmoil, like Dark Angels vs Space Wolves, if only to justify all the loyalist vs loyalist fights on the tabletop, like the split of the roman empire.) Idk just spitballing, but I'd like to see some moves made away from loyalist chapters, I can't imagine how splitting the space-marine player-base is that helpful long-term.

They could definitely do more with Armaggedon vs Orks, new Steel Legion, new Yarrick, new and huge Ghazghkull, could introduce Orkimedes and other Ork characters that serve in Ghazghkull's Waaagh. Could be a really fun really large release like Armaggedon has served in the past.
@JBAIMARK37 жыл бұрын
I would always be up for more orks, Armageddon would make sense given Ghaz and his warbuggies need an update as do Guard-Regiments, you could set it elsewhere since Ghaz and Yarrick left to find a better fight and have Yarrick enlist a number of updated popular regiments. Personally I'd love to see a disturbing Necron focused problem on the border, maybe the void-dragon is manipulating the mechanicus amd guard into reenslaving dormant necrons, while Eldar-United try/fail to stop them. But 120% just do anything to split up the narrative and attention.

For some reason this video made an idea jump into my head, probably not a new one I guess but still. Is it possible that the Tyranids are the final creation of the old ones, after they realized it was all going to pot they legged it into the void and made tyranids to correct their mistake (on the basis that chaos is worse than total absence of life, which I would suggest is a fair assessment). Any solid reasons why this can't be true? I think its my new personal cannon if not.

In terms of home brewed rules/story: I am a loyalist Iron Warrior. The 13th Grand Battalion was on its way to the Sol system (pre-heresy) when it got stuck in the warp for 9,000 years. When we got out, we though three months had passed. After much speculation/investigation/discussion, it was determined that all ~3,000 Marines total, auxiliary forces, and ship crew would go on crusade while the people in charged figured out what they would do with them. 50 years in, the Warsmith and his command staff decided that this was not the Imperium that they swore to build/protect and dropped of Imperial radar. They set up camp to the south-west of Terra near the Ork empires and have been waging war for the last 200 years. All this is because I fell in love the Forge Worlds Heresy era Iron Warriors and didn't want to leave them behind when 8th edition hit. I've been working on putting together a home brewed codex of sorts that translates the Heresy era into 8th edition format. Doing well I think.

I think one of the biggest things that could help some of the Xenos races is if they had special and unique forces and factions available to them. For example, the Space Marines have multiple different sub-factions. Sure, you have just regular Space Marines, but you can also build an army of specifically Blood Angels Marines or Space Wolves Marines that add to the range of things generic Space Marines can do. Same with the Chaos Marines, with Thousand Sons or Death Guard. Not only do these unique forces add additional strategies and game content, but they are almost always tied to hugely significant lore, which can really draw players in and make those sets feel special. In contrast, most Xenos only have that base faction, but no extra sub-factions like the Imperium and Chaos get. Just putting a bit of thought and effort into creating extra sub-factions would help enormously.

Now that 9th edition is out now and Necron DID get expanded, how do you feel?
@Aerix7 жыл бұрын
Just a reminder, the xenos races did get some bones semi-recently. Nids got access to the Imperial Guard line with the Gene Stealer cult, Eldar players got to reach across the webway aisle and use units from other eldar types in their lists with ynnari, in 2015 Tau got their new stuff (stormsurge, riptides, etc.), Necrons got the new stuff too semi-recently (ghost-arc, crescent flyer, obelisk, etc), and orks got their gorkanaughts/morkanaughts semi-recently. No the xeno races aren't getting new lines like the imperium is able to churn out en-mass, but they aren't completely ignored either. If you really want to see an oddity let's talk age of sculpts and what materials they come in. Several lines are still in metal with the same sculpts as over a decade or more ago, some slightly luckier have had their lines transitioned from metal to finecast retaining the same sculpts, a smidgen luckier than them have had those finecast transitioned to plastic still in the same sculpts, and If you're a poster boy army you might even been given a new sculpt since the metal days now in plastic. I'm suprised with the extra costs of making 3 different mediums for their models that GW hasn't just gone on a rampage re-releasing new sculpts in plastic of our old metal heroes (sisters, vostroyans, inquisition, etc.)

Concept: taking an idea from comics, what if they did a sort of Year of the Villian event where in-universe a xenos race makes a big dramatic push in the current time. Maybe a new Tyranid Hive Fleet comes in and cleans out a fringe territory and the resulting terror on other worlds nearby gives rise to massive world-wide Genestealer Cults, or a massive Ork uprising results in an entire sector being attacked by Orks in numbers previously unseen, or the Tau make a power play and take a section of the galaxy away from the Imperioum. And you get a new line of minis to go with this big shift in the dynamic of the galaxy. Maybe, to capitalize in the Fear of Missing Out, you tease everyone with limited edition sculpts where only 2000 (pulling a number out of my ass here) of this specific miniature looking this exact way are ever going to be made, capped off with a marketing push around videos of them destroying the mold plates for those special sculpts in weird ways. If everything goes the way it does in my head, you've just got more people into the other armies by way if special edition sculpts that maybe get people to buy a Killteam for that faction. Then they maybe expand out to buy a whole army of them. In the lore they're being pushed so more purple are interested in trying them out in the first place. Make it a big event, then after a bit, the Imperium either restores the status quo or this becomes the new reality. Idk I've had a little something to drink so maybe I dont make any sense anymore but I hope this makes sense

I think if they pushed some of the xenos races a bit then they would see increased sales. Although they don't sell as well as Marines (nothing does) that does not mean that they sell poorly. Necrons are a very popular force. Orks are also good sellers. They used to sell more when they were a bigger player in the lore. And eldar are as popular as ever. And let's not forget the Tau. I can understand with forces like dark eldar that they are never gonna be one of the top selling armies so will get little in the way of new releases and support. But come on GW there are alot of xenos players out there who are keen to spend lots of cash on the plastic crack! Give us some more cool looking kits for our armies and we will throw money at you!

couldnt help but think every time you were hammering the point home about if the xenos races made advancements and developed new threats it would skew the setting, well the same applies to the imperium does it not, seeing as its just the other side, light vs dark good vs evil... so how many more toys are they going to get (primaris, new grav tanks, primarchs, full custodes armies on operational deployments) before it skews it so much in favor of the imperium that theyre actually looking to be on for a win? Seeing as theyre getting fleshed out and yet only fighting the same stale crusty old aliens and their ancient stuff - its about balance over all and I think thats whats getting peoples goat the most.
TBF the Eldar have had a lot given to them including a brand new faction and are now a major part of the story with the birth of ynnead

I'm someone who mainly loves the Imperium only to sate my bonerlust for power armor and space marines. Meanwhile, I prefer the Orks because literally everything about them is amazing to me. Their collective warp presence able to warp reality based on shared belief, the fact you can't easily stop Orks from growing on a planet for hundreds of years unless you Exterminatus the planet, and the fact they're literally fungal life forms. The Orks are also the best aesthetic for a whole army of "Winging it" type dudes. I love the Eldar because they're the epitome of a synergy between function and form. Also they're the highest underdog, so I can't help it, and I love sci-fi elves, doesn't help that most images and depictions of eldar women also have them seemingly all be redheads too. I kinda don't care about the rest, I mean they're pretty cool, or they're slightly neat.

You see until the Great Crusade happened, in the lore, humanity actually interacted with Xeno's. They were on friendly terms. In other words, the Xeno turned against humanity and eventually lead to conflict. It was not that the Emperor hated Xenos. They just didn't fit the expectations or have the same goals in mind, this often lead to resistance against the Astartes causing them to wipe out the races. They never bore any love or hate for each other, simply survival.

citation needed... I'd like to know what the sales figures actually are for imperium/chaos vs all the other races before strictly agreeing. @mausolus84666 жыл бұрын
As someone, who always hated the Imperium, this Xenos-problem was upsetting for me as well. But the good solution in this is, at least from my point of view, the great rule known as an "Your dudes" rule. I never actually was a fan of making lore-wise armies, and not only in scheme and assembly, but also in my own lore (especialy in "spirutual" side, mainly about afterlife). It really helped me to get more into this hobby, and for myself, I can truly recomend this. All my armies were created as independent factions, even when I had my Blood Angels Chaplain, he and his faction were "renegate" marines (fighting against Imperium, but also not following Chaos). It can be at least a little comfort for Xenos fans - once you pay for the models, you can shape them anyway you want. Creating you own gods, alien species, or even own dimensions... I think its all fair game. I know that from additional models perspective it is a little harder, but on the side of stories of development, it is up to you, limited only by your own imagination. This philosophy helped me in history many times (and not just in Warhammer hobby), and I believe it can be aplicated here as well. As for the new models... well, we have to stick with the conversions, at least for now, but I dont find that too bad neither. Im just saying my opinion, so please, treat that as such :)

the Horus Heresy IS NOT the setting of 40k. it is an historical event of the Imperium but IN THE BIG PICTURE IT MEANS NOTHING! Do you think the Orcs know or care about Horus, or the Tyranids do you think they care or know about mankind's civil war eons ago. How about the Eldar do you think they have the slightest interest in the Emperor's primarchs being childish and having a hissy fit? The Necrons, the Squats, the Tau, the Dark Eldar, Harlequins, Exodites, anyone outside of the Imperium cares in the slightest? Even Chaos is like "cheers, thanks for all the new troops. it was a nice aperitif after we ate THE WHOLE ELDAR RACE!" No, Space Marines only make up a tiny fraction of one faction of 40k. it would be like as if GW decided to spend half their range focusing on the different types of Eldar Harlequin masques there could be and put all of the Imperium in one codex. . Make Horus Heresy (30k) be for the Space Marine fanboy worship, let 40k be for everyone else. That's far more than fair.

Theres so much potential with Xenos factions, an Eldar/Tau alliance, a new major hive fleet with some strange new Nids, you could have a chaos tinted dark elder force. Things are getting better with the silent king now but that's life for Xenos players once in a blue moon fun stuff

I think also one of the problems that differentiates xenos from Imperium and chaos is the compatibility. I mean, If you play, for instance, as Grey Knights, you can still use custodes models, primaries models, and treat them as grey knight. If you play any Imperial faction, you can use any other Imperial faction as a detachment, HQ, or a substitute for a tank. Same thing with chaos. If you play Death Guard, you could take some Thousand sons, or neutral chaos models, and just... nurglify them, or even use them without changes. . So no matter which faction gets new stuff, you always get at least an interesting option. . For Xenos, the field seems so barren mainly because when GW finally get around to doing a refresh of one of the factions (which in itself happens rarely), other Xeno players can just wave their hands and say "That's cool, but what about us?"
