A big fan of this call. I rag on some of the show's callers because they try to speak from a position of authority that they don't, and can't, hold. Brent struck me as a person just trying to figure things out without the anger, fear, or arrogance other callers have shown. Wishing you well on your journey, Brent!

Agree. This caller showed humility. I also agree with your observation that many of the callers to the show are arrogant and assume they have all the answers. Ironically, it is typically those callers who are the least prepared to defend their positions and claims.

This comment had me thinking about how, when online, I try to be careful, mindful, and quick to apologize and correct myself if I, or the person I am speaking to points out an error, but offline, I am sometimes quicker judge the sincerity of the person I am talking to, and I think that's because I can see the other person's facial expressions. It's funny how different those wo interactions can be; when online, people get the largest amount of my patience as I will forgive what would be seen as utter disrespect offline, because I can't tell why they responded in such a way.

Unless you reply with a proper/valid answer to this question (preferably with a list of your TOP 3 REASONS/PROOFS WITH EXPLANATION), *you would forfeit your position* as your "argument" would be considered unsuported useless rabmling by any honest or reasonable person/standard. What an amazingly logically conducted conversation from Matt, and Don. This should be an eye opener for the young man, and in the long run, hopefully, he will let the great insight from Matt and Don to shape his understanding our environment and Universe, and with the complete openness that we are still discovering things, and it is ok to say "I Don't Know", when we truly don't know, and not fill it with religious suppositions or other falsehoods. Brent is concerned that if everything in a secular universe is predetermined, including what we think, life is pointless. Well, shoot, Brent! 1. If the god of the bible exists as it is written there, then he predetermined the universe, and since he is unchanging, nothing can change. Blame God, then. 2. If god doesn't exist, then like Matt says, what is the problem with everything being predetermined? You can't change it, and you don't KNOW what is predetermined anyway, so play the game (life).

WHY would it be nice to think we're not predetermined?? There are really only three possibilities: ● Everything is predetermined to a minute detail. ● Everything is pure randomness. ● Some combination. That's it. Nothing else is even possible. Not even if souls were real. Because the same exact thing would apply to souls. They're either predetermined, random, or some combination. Now, it's obvious that we're not pure randomness, because we can predict a lot of things. SOME amount of randomness may be a part of our universe, and ourselves. But everything we value about ourselves, everything that makes sense, every skill we have, everything that works, is due to "the predetermined". It's dumb to lament the very thing you're made of.

Two things God/Jesus Christ hates most. Unbelief and Idolatry. Every person/soul/spirit will be judged one day. Believers will be judged for the work they have done while on earth and rewarded accordingly. Unbelievers unfortunately will be judged concerning their eternal destination, because they chose not to believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, they will spend eternity separated from God/Jesus Christ their Maker for all eternity in a place of torment. Day and night they will cry out for relief.

Regardless of eating sweets in clouds or playing volleyball with Jesus like these stories. This is pretty much what made me start to walk away from religion: how does free will work in a universe where an all powerful, all knowing being created everything. If I as a designer am expecting a particular result from my design, and the design works in accordance to my knowledge, I was cosnciously and willfully responsible for what happened.
