I would say that he’s ruthless in the face of willful ignorance. Ignorance is (sadly) the default state. But once one is shown that ones assumptions were incorrect, one should adopt the new understanding and move forward. It’s the willful reluctance to adapt and move forward that frustrates the living bejezus out of me, and I imagine it does for Matt as well.

When I was 5 or 6 years old, my parents gave me books about Aesop’s fables, Mother Goose stories, Fairy tales, etc., and almost all of those stories had talking animals. I asked my Dad if animals can really talk, and he told me that it was make-believe (which I later labeled Suspended disbelief). I put those books on my make-believe shelf, along with Mickey Mouse, Peter Rabbit, and Winnie the Pooh. One day my Presbyterian grandmother gave me a book of Bible stories for children. In the very first story, I found a talking snake. That book went straight to the make-believe shelf, where it has remained for over 65 years.

I was given a book of bible stories aimed at children from my Catholic father at around the same age, while he was not what I would call a practicing Catholic he was a believer. Despite that fact I never was and I always kind of treated that story book the same way I did all my other fiction books, I never really gave the Christian faith much thought other than I knew it was fictional. It kind of blows my mind that so many adults buy into the supernatural.

I was raised as a Jehovah witness, I'm getting close to 50 years of age and when I was 18 years old I started having some questions regarding religion. I still believed in the existence of God, after some time I began looking deeper in the subject and with critical thinking I concluded that there is no evidence of the existence of God nor is the Bible the word of God. One day driving home with the family my small children asked me what the Bible said about God creating man, I told the the story, some time later my 12 year old said to me that he felt that the Bible story of man's creation sound it a bit like a story and that it didn't make sense. I'm glad that my children have the opportunity to know when things sound a bit like a story, not like when my parents taught me that the Bible is the word of God and that we mortals should never questioned what's in it. Even children when given the opportunity can make sense of the world around them, I will explain things to them as they grow and ask questions about religion and God and give them the opportunity to be adults free of the chains of religion.

@@trustinjesus1119 I seriously have no idea what you are talking about. You seem to say your beliefs are so important that they cannot be examined critically at all. That makes them indistinguishable from delusions and mental illness. Did you understand MY point? That the caller doesn't appear to know, even on a basic level, what she expects to happen by using the bible to question science (and reality) itself. She bounces back and forth between trying to make science fit the bible, and making the bible fit science, because deep down she know science has the evidence, so if she wants to believe the bible, it better fit with the evidence (and science). Yet taking five seconds to think about it would make her realize that makes no sense. If there was anything useful scientifically in the bible, people would have discovered that hundreds of years ago. Every time scientists TRIED to make the bible fit science, they failed. Even Newton said that god had to have put the planets in their places because there could be no other explanation of how they got there. Well, luckily subsequent scientists ignored that declaration and now we know how the planets were formed. If you want to try to explain your point again, I will listen. I honestly don't get you.

Except in Yugioh, there’s a demonstrable, falsifiable card spirit dimension where the entities on the card art are real, and various individuals throughout the series not only form bonds with these entities but physically enter their dimension and interact with them. It’s actually more viable than any real world religious claim. Yugi has a genuine justification to have faith in his cards in both a colloquial sense since he really wants to win, and in a real sense since even in card form, they can seemingly have a will of their own. Of course, Yugi and Atem are also just fucking magical cheaters, but they apparently don’t do it intentionally most of the time lol

Creationist Bible thumper called me the other day. He had to go for lunch after 50 minutes. Don't think it went the way he planned. Thanks Matt for educating us in a way we can respond to those righteous bullies. So many holes in the religion. Just talk about those points - Who is sending who to hell. According to him god gave us a choice. But god knowing the future eliminates free choice. I chose not to go to hell....who is sending me there now. I like the wife talking loud analogy. you tell your wife not to talk loud to you and if she does you slap her. If she talks loud afterwards, who is doing the slapping....You or your wife? They have absolutely no comeback to this analogy. - Who planted the tree of knowledge. Knowing that god knows the future. By planting the tree and knowing the future, god committed genocide once again. - Why did god have kill all the animals during the flood. Weren't they innocent? God being all powerful wasn't there an alternative? - How would you not characterize the flood as a genocide? - Why does god sanction slavery? - Earth 6000 yrs old? where do the dinosaurs fit in? I could go on and on but with just these points you can hold your own with any of these bullies.

I think that is enough information passed on for a human to know they were not supposed to mess with that tree. When you tell a child not to touch a hot stove, don't they have the option on whether or not to actually touch the stove? You could have turned the stove off, or simply not turned on the stove in the first place to prevent the possibility of the child burning themselves at all. But the fact is that there is a stove; the stove is on; the stove is hot; you told the child not to touch the stove. But then the child touches the stove. Choices huh? Why should anyone be blamed?? The principle of Cause and Effect : if u didnt have a kid the problem of a kid gettin burned by the stove wouldnt have occured. There are so many problems and stress that would have been avoided just by not havin a kid . Now , im not saying do not have kids, dont misunderstand. But by havin a kid you just provided a Condition to future Effects(cause and effect)a.k.a problems. Likewise havin a stove also may lead to future disasters if all the neccesary conditions were provided .That doesnt mean dont buy a stove. All im sayin is dont get mad and start blamin everybody because the whole existence is Cause and Effect and u cant do nothin about it. It never occurred to them that day and night were happening at the same time at different places. This is why the sun isn’t listed first even though it needed to exist first for earth and the other planets to orbit it.

'3 major religions'? Does she think Judaism is a 'major religion'? Because Hinduism is the 3rd most 'major', followed by Buddhism, Shintoism, Sikhism, and THEN Judaism (on the level with local tribal religions). Judaism just gets attention because of its connection to Islam and Christianity, but there aren't enough adherents to call it major (let alone the 3rd most major), IMO.
