Hey Scotty how’s it going? I have a 1998 Toyota Camry LE automatic transmission with the 2.2L with 190,000 miles my car revs high but the car will not accelerate. I scanned it and got back p0500 code (Speed Sensor A) I replaced the sensor and still got no luck. I’ll be checking for voltage in the sensor connector today. The car will run for maybe 10seconds then right back to high revs. I dropped the transmission oil pan just now and found 3 very small metal pins any ideas on what it might be? The oil did have a fair amount of grey metal like build up, no chunks just residue on the pan. Appreciate the help as this is my wife’s daily.

A guy I know told me he had carbon buildup in his engine and exhaust, and had condensation in his oil. The guy he went to was completely honest and told him: I can fix this for you, but it will be quite expensive. You would be better of driving to Germany (we live in the Nethetlands) and go drive really fast for an hour or two. And indeed everything was good after that. This guy is now the mechanic I recommend to everyone.

I remember going on a family vacation as a kid. Mom was trying to get Dad to slow down. He had the Buick Wilcat going 130 MPH on the interstate. He told her he had to blow the carbon out of the carburetor so it'd get better fuel economy. He probably burned a gallon of gas accelerating to 130 MPH.

My father did actually admit that his car always ran better after I drove it, he used it for very short runs and never fast. I would take it on longer runs, faster and using the whole rev range. It was remarkable how the valvetrain noise would be reduced and the engine generally run properly.

My dad bought a 37 dodge pickup that had been used for tobacco hauling. They only drove it back and forth at about 10-20mph on dirt roads. When he got it running it was smoking a bunch. He went to drive and it was about to shut off so he floored it and he got up to around 50-60 and it stopped smoking. Ran perfect.

Not only good for engine but good for the environment. Driving at a higher speed can yield higher efficiency resulting in a "coast and glide" situation where fuel efficiency is increased by running at maximum efficiency then idling using the momentum of the car to move it. Running the engine at maximum efficiency may cause increased wear

The problem with doing an Italian tune up on my car is that the roads here in California are so poorly maintained it's dangerous going that fast. At the rate we're going we'll need to replace the wheels on cars with tracks.

@@darthsatan4841 I wait until the temp gauge reads normal running temp before I give it the full beans! Just a simple mantra I've followed on all my motorbikes and cars over the past 40 years which has served me well, never had and engine blow or had any premature engine wear or any mechanical issues due to engine wear and tear. I've always fully serviced my vehicles regularly and go over the specified oil change intervals ie if it says change every 10k miles I change every 5k miles, if it says change once a year, I change the oils twice a year etc etc I've put some serious mileage on my cars without issue.

Very true! My father bought a nice looking, low mile full size pickup years ago that had a completely messed up engine because the owner never went anywhere outside of town and never got it above 35 mph. It was mostly seized up and required a rebuild. A mechanic gave me the same advice years ago concerning my buick because i had been using it for work around town and i had to get it cleaned out. Getting your car out on the highway does work wonders. Oh not to mention higher speeds can in some instances improve milage. I get anywhere from 21-25 mpg in town and as high as 28mpg on the highway.

I'd make sure you have the right tires , in good condition if you're gonna be flying down the highway on a 16 year old car . I don't think an " Italian " tuneup for more than a few miles , is really needed .

Alot of people don't realize this is a good thing, I learned this at a young age so when I got my first car (used of course) I changed the fuel filter and engine air filter, spark plug wires and plugs, motor oil as well as topped off the radiator ran the vehicle until nearly empty and then filled up with premium gas twice b4 filling it up with regular had to do the same procedure when I bought a Suburban that was sitting in the backyard under a car shed that trucks got 500k miles on it now after It was resurrected at 316k miles. I don't know how people could feel comfortable resorting to that seafoam stuff to get rid of carbon deposits in chunks so It can end up somewhere else in the motor

I always said that revving my engine to its high point was healthy for the engine. Was an intuitive thing. Didn’t bode well with local and highway LE but I knew it was the right thing to do.

Is it the same for having good engine to drive fast with low rpm, and to drive slow with high rpm. So can we drive 30m/h on high rpm and also clean engine

It's more about flooring the car. I usually floor the car when I'm first at a red light. I've avoided grimy parts that way.

I 1000% agree. I drove 80 miles to work each way every day for 10 years and that car was very responsive just usual problems that need replacement. That much of a commute gotta have a fun car. FYI 1992 16V VW GTI. beat high speed highway car. In my price range it’s not always about the car it’s about the balls anyone can drive 100+ on highway but usually lay off as soon as they hit the triple digit mark. I would sometimes just hammer on it cause I knew every cop spot by then. 100+ for 30 min. Get to work quick when your late. Dam. Who’s got a time machine!!

I don't know about new ones but I've definitely had it with old ones my grandfather fixes up antiques as a hobby, he had one that the owner said never ran quite right nobody could get it working. Grandpa gets it on the highway runs it hard for 30minutes suddenly theres a bang like a gunshot a bunch of black smoke and the sucker runs like new after that.

Back when carburetors were on cars, yes, carbon could build up. Today with computer controlled fuel injection the fuel is precisely measured so I don’t see how carbon builds up by only going 30 mph. The biggest problem is when a vehicle isn’t driven far enough to reach full operating temperature and condensation builds up in the engine causing sludge in the oil

I just spent three days reassembling a junkyard worthy S10, and the first thing I did was take that gutless wonder out onto the highway and bury my foot for fifteen miles. It made a noticable improvement in the idle, but I am still chasing a misfire and fuel trim issues.
