Honestly I never understand why people hated the film. I actually enjoyed it. I think people didn’t like it because Adam Sandler

Actually people like me hated this movie because of how unfitting that voice was for Whitey (considering he was an elderly man), the overloaded product placement, the extreme unlike-ability of Davey, the toilet humor, and the racist Rob Schneider stereotype.

9:27 okay i puzzled with this but i finally have it. Davey is taking a step into Whitey's shoes here. to Whitey, the mall is a spiritual healing place. it is the heart of the local community. the brands and products are always nice, but to me what stands out is the odd absence of attention to workers. this strikes me more as an incongruity though. it seems perfectly in-character of Whitey to care immensely about every worker at the mall. to him, the brands and logos are probably closer to just a uniform. the reason Davey sees manifested Mr Foot Locker et al, is because he is disconnected from the town. he has no actual human faces to put next to these businesses in his mind, and so he has nothing but logos to work with. it is also product placement it's just. . . i think this was a real passion project from Sandler and it really strikes me as a moment where he put his soul into something and it got shat on. really makes me feel for the dude.

THANK YOU I'm not excusing Davy's behavior but people ignore*how* he ended up that way. Eight Crazy Nights isn't a masterpiece, but it's definitely a good movie.

People all seem to fail to realize that even the characters in the movie don't let his antics slide by, except for Whitey being the only one who has his back (up until the blow out). The whole point is he is a scumbag that is given one more chance to not be a scumbag anymore. I like me stories of washed out or jerkwads, who end up changing for better. And I do like that it's not an instant change either.

I loved this movie so much as a kid and i just watched it. Great movie. People are mad because of simple things: 1. They are used to get a happy chubby "look at me im so good and nice at the holidays movie" that seeing a character like davey just made them hate it immediatelly. They ignore the change he goes, and the overall use of whitey and so proclaimed poor guy. The movie made me tear up. From sadness and well... happiness i loved the ending. Davey went through a change and there are good morals and values to the story. Better then most holiday movies. While the humor is hit or miss. The musical and the animation are absolutely amazing. To bad people used to eat shit like "holidays are good, be a good human being at holidays but you keep the asshole attitude when christmass is over". 2. Point 1 was too long. This isn't a movie u probably should watch at holiday, cause it makes you think. Keep it for later.

This is what I'm thinking ..... You are right about the toilet humor and especially the timing of it..... I think they do that because they don't want you to get too emotional because they still want it to be a comedy.... But they did such a good job pulling those heartstrings they should have went heavy on that and less on the gross out comedy especially when the gross out comedy comes right after a serious moment

So I remember watching ECN for the first time, and right when the “Let it Out Davey” song started happening I was actually tempted to cry. But then I remembered they made the decision to have the _product placement_ be the one to deliver this emotional climax, and so I didn’t :P

I see as this movie as so bad its good The jokes are crass and in poor taste yes But they are funny in a bad way But yet it has heart in the movie later on Making him regretful and ashamed of what he become now as an adult due to his past trauma at the age of 12.. He hides his pain by being an horrible person who drinks alot And whitey helps him but he throws it back in his face As whitey is a lovely guy so is his sister Yet reviews miss the point of the movie calling it the worst movie ever made Yes it's not a good film but it's enjoyablely bad which I think its a not bad film its just misunderstood imo

@@TheDanTheManShow oh, I assumed it was like a small christmas series. I stopped 6 mins into the video since you gave away a few spoilers, I'll come back to it tho once I actually see, or skim, through the movie :D. I really do love the little tiny edits you do when saying the punchline to jokes, they are so entertaining :p. Adam sandler was one of my favorite comedians growing up, I really liked 50 first dates and click.

oh are we gonna ignore Mr. Chang? tbf, i sympathize. Mr. Chang is easily the most damning criticism i could make of this film. incredibly tasteless and frankly pretty offensive caricature. if he straight up wasnt in the film, id be willing to forgive nearly everything else, and itd be a solid 8/10 the transphobic non sequitur's a real doozy though. comes outta nowhere.

Adam Sandler is capable of SO much worse than Eight Crazy Nights, so I don't know why people want to pick on this one in particular. It's the one movie that actually calls out what I don't like about the asshole manchild characters that are usually unchallenged in his other ones. He's the dumb craaaazy guy, but hey, at least he's better than the mean ol stuffy suits 😤, so the hawt girls inexplicably hook up with him at the end despite showing no growth whatsoever, golly what a easy win for our hero! But here, the town reacts to him as they would IRL, like "no you're a douche, fuck off", so he DOES have to learn to stop this self-destructive path from ruining him for good. Hell, the backstory with the unopened card is the same thing that similar manchild Peter Quill was going through, and we still like him in GOTG. Yeah it has the same Adam Sandler humor you expect, but now it's grounded in a much better story that I can at least KINDA give a shit about. Solid defense of a solid movie, mate 👍
@HadalStreetlights
@HadalStreetlights 2 жыл бұрын
GOTG was what caused me to rewatch 8CN and realize how wrong id been about this movie. id never understood why opening the card had been such a titanic deal when its contents were so trivial. GOTG2 tipped the hand here and made me realize that it's a moment that represents Davey finally letting go of his parents, abandoning his pretense for his behavior. he had never grown up because he would have to grow up without them. at the end of the movie he can admit that he has, but he has also found a family in the town. this is also why he doesnt go to jail.

I think this is a legit good film even if it does take a while for Davey a little while to become a sympathetic character and I do love the chemistry between him and Jennifer I mean they might as well have great chemistry after all she is voiced by Adams wife Jackie and I do wonder if there’s a point where he looks at her son and thinks I should have been his father with all with said idk if I’d call this an underrated animated masterpiece but I do know it was released alongside one Disney’s treasure planet which tragically was also a box office bomb 💣

Wow a positive review. I didnt look at the movie with the negativity of some of the big reviewers like doug, saberspark. I thought it was pretty decent. Not a great movie, but not bad. I thought the animation n voices were alright, whiteys voice never really bothered me either. I liked the songs to.....always get bum biddy stuck in my head. I think maybe some ppl looked either too deep or too shallow into the film.

I’m surprised that I actually like this movie, I never watched the movie as a kid. I watched it on Hulu expecting it to be bad but this movie is actually really good. I like that the main characters are relatable, I got to understand what they’re going through, I love the animation and songs except for the gross out humor.🤢😓 It has a lot of problems but I think one of the problems of this movie is that it came out at the wrong place at the wrong time. Rick and Morty made a big impact to animation when it first came out with its adult humor. This movie would work if they left out the gross out humor and non secreters and picked a better time to release it.
