In every anglers journey of building up their rod and reel arsenal, they come to a point where a certain rod and reel are needed to fully accomplish the "heavy" situations. In this video I share why I believe a HEAVY rod combo is one of the most necessary for every type of anger from guys who bank fish, kayak fish, or fish tournaments out of a bass boat! I love to teach how to catch more fish on this channel, and how to be the most efficient angler possible! SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed this content!

One thing I forgot to mention: The reasoning for the length (7’4”), it’s because it is slightly longer than average which leads to longer casts, and more leverage on the hookset and getting the fish back to the shore/boat. You could broaden this specific rod and reel combo to 7’2” or 7’6”, but I think for every angler 7’4” is the best average

I love that your "high end" combo is a $130.00 Rod and a $300.00 reel whereas most other channels, a "high end" combo is a $450-$600 rod and a $250-$500 reel.

Right now my absolute favorite rod that I have is a 7’3 medium heavy and a 7’4 heavy. Both by Lew’s of course because that’s all I’ll use but I feel like I can take those 2 rods and those 2 only anywhere in the world and be ok honestly. I mean there’s very very very few things that I can’t do on those rigs. Awesome video brother. I literally have that exact combo. It’s my work horse.

Love my Lew’s combos! I realize sponsors are super important for anyone in the industry, but for those who are on a super budget Bass Pro’s brand has some solid reels by Johnny Morris around the $100 mark that can be used w braid if $ is tight! I use Lew’s Daiwa, Shimano, and my main frog reel is a Johnny Morris 8:1 and it works fantastic, so if $ is tight you can get a great combo for this around the $200 mark. But if you can splurge, Lew’s has amazing combos!!

Thanks Tyler. I really appreciate what you do. I'd love to see you review some of the Lew's made combos. Such as the mach crush and Lew's inshore. Those are 2 combos that I use quite often. I am slowly upgrading my rigs to the higher end gear I have a g. Loomis with a Shimano DC on it and it's absolutely PERFECT! However, as much as I love that combo it's a $500 combo. I am not sure if upgrading all my gear is necessary. I'm putting together a heavyweight combo for musky, sturgeon, and pike. Basically big game fish. I already have the rod it's a cheep berkely big game rod. I'm looking at the abu rocket beast. Not sure yet. Anyways, some advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Be safe out on the water and God bless you and your family. 🙂

I have a question I don’t see talked about fishing etiquette. I went fishing a day ago and was fishing from a dock. Some others came up which I don’t mind but they were fishing worms and would cast out then wonder around behind me stand behind me and talk in a circle amongst themselves. slowly crowded me more and more. I only had a couple hours to fish and I ended up quitting early since I couldn’t pack up and get somewhere new with enough time left. I get they cast out and don’t feel the need to watch their rods I guess but I don’t fish that way because I find it more fun to use lures. I was just curious is this common? What if any etiquette is there.

I asked for a Lews 7-foot-4 heavy rod for Christmas, and received it. However, it is moderate action - something I didn't specify. Thank you for another video with useful advice as usual. I just wanted to know if you use other rods and reels than Lews? Reason being that here in South Africa we battle to buy Lews or other good American products. I fish with mainly Shimano and Daiwa combos and find them excellent but would like to get a Lews setup as it seems really good. I see a lot of you guys fishing with Lews so it HAS to be good. Shipping fees to us are super expensive so we don't use what you guys have. Tight lines.

what I like about tacticalbassin that other fishing KZbinrs don't usually do is suggest different products from many different companies. I know you're sponsored by Lews so obviously you're going to recommend nothing but Lews but in all honesty, if you want quality and superior performance, you may want to branch out and use other brands. Shimano is amazing, both their rods and reels, megabass has outstanding performance also, same with St Croix, and finally if you want superior quality and performance, G.Loomis is king. Not saying Lews products aren't as good but Its silly to hold yourself back by only fishing with one brand.

@joeschnapps1712 3 жыл бұрын
With jigs, Texas rigged plastics, or frogs, a straight up hook set is going to work better because you can generate extra power to drive the hooks into the roof of the bass’s mouth. I’m not an expert, but a general rule of thumb I follow is if it’s a moving bait with treble hooks, or exposed hook such as a spinner baits/chatterbaits, use a more sideways sweeping hookset. If you have to drive the hook through the plastic, such as a Texas rig, I would want to set the hook hard by doing a straight upwards hookset, with enough force to cross their eyes as some people say lol.
@MommyOutdoors
@MommyOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
@@joeschnapps1712 ok makes sense!! I wasnt even thinking how with chatterbaits the hook is exposed vs trigs or frogs. What do you think the advantage of side sweeping it is? Over just driving all lures straight up everytime? I'm gonna have to really start thinking about hooksets when i change lures now🤣
@joeschnapps1712
@joeschnapps1712 3 жыл бұрын
@@MommyOutdoors The theory with moving baits/exposed hooks is that if you try to use an upwards hook set, you may yank the lure out of the fishes mouth. The sweep hook set is a more gradual hook set and allows the fish to get the lure down in their mouth more.

What’s your thoughts on using a heavy 7’10 extra heavy for crank baits like deep divers
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing 3 ай бұрын
I don’t think that’s a smart choice. Especially with that bait, you’re likelihood of hooking them outside the mouth, where they are easily lost, is very high. So you want a rod with a little more parabolic bend to it. I would recommend a long, medium heavy.
@zachparrish5620

How come people do a far heavier braid than the rod or reel's drag are listed as capable of handling? A lot of the time it's more than double. I would assume you'd want more than the drag and less than the rod.

Drag means almost nothing in bass fishing, unless you’re fighting a big fish on a spinning rod. I lock em all down completely tight. And I’m pretty sure line weight is what is meant to go through the guides well, not specifically how strong of a line it can handle. Braid is also way different than mono and fluoro in terms of its build components

It’s not sad, it’s an opportunity. If you live In America you can work to afford whatever you want. It may be more difficult for some people, but the opportunity is always there. It’s all about desire. Desire it and make it happen

Love the optimism, I wish I still had it. But last time i poured myself into achieving those desires, I lost everything right down to the dog. I'll live vicariously through others!

Nobody makes a “budget” 7’4” H combo. If you want budget, you’re gonna be stuck with combos that companies make like 7’M or 7’MH
