The best thing about Cleo's videos is that she never treats the viewer like a moron (like mass media channels do). Like if you watch a space travel news story on mass media they have to make some awkward cringe joke because the journos are morons who think being smart is weird and childish. Cleo's videos treat the audience as intelligent adults, although they can appeal to kids, she has infographics to help explain complex subjects and makes them relatable. Her presentation style is also friendly and welcoming. Her space suit video was terrific. If I had to make one any advice it would be to slow down a little bit, she tends to get excited about the subject and talks very fast at times.

Cleo is very humble, which makes her videos so much more enjoyable. She is also very intelligent, so when she conducts interviews with people to discuss complex topics, her questions and comments are very intelligent and well thought out, and reflect the questions that we (the audience) would want to be asking. Cleo’s success is a result of her personality, motivation, intelligence, and the strength of her team.

@@Cdr_Mansfield_Cumming Considering Cleo hosts a science type channel. It is interesting, in my opinion that you stated she IS very attractive. On a personal note it is my opinion that Cleo is very attractive. So it would seem we share the same opinion. But it is an opinion none the less. Attractive by its very definition indicates a subjective assessment. Not an unequivocal fact. By way of example. Five out of six scientists have proven that playing Russian Roulette is completely harmless from a physical harm perspective. In my opinion, five out of six arriving at the same conclusion does not make it fact. It is an overwhelmingly popularly shared opinion. The sixth scientist is yet to submit her findings from the study. So results of the study are so far incomplete.

It’s fascinating. It’s like making TV episodes for KZbin. They are better than most of the episodes on TV. That’s how I see how @cleoAbram channel works so well and it’s clear that process has been learned from her time at Vox. Love the show and wish I could plan like this. The best walkthroughs of process I've seen. My takeaways: 17:30 One of the things I care a lot about is that I’m not the main character of my show. I am the proxy for the audience and I introduce them to a new main character in every episode. 19:48 The visual needs to actually help the explanation. Is it answering the question? Is it doing explanatory work? If you’re saying ‘this’ it’s a cue for a key visual. 28:25 Never underestimated your audience’s intelligence and never overestimate their prior knowledge. No jargon. No acronyms. Very simple language but very complex ideas. Keep head and hands as close together as possible. The person who came up with the idea should be involved in the work.

watching Cleo feels like technology journalism presented by an engineer with the communication capability of a journalist rather than a journalist an interest in technology and engineering. The focus is on the detail and the concrete goal for how the technology improves people's lives and the detail in the plan for getting there. Typical technology journalism seems focused on spectacle rather than detail either in service of how the technology is a disaster or that it will be revolutionary with no concrete information on how.

I think most of the media I see only seems to be able to present optimism when couched in hyperbole and wild conjecture and so it seems unrealistic, whilst anything presented with realism seems to only be pessimistic. I'm always down to watch Cleo because I know i'll get to see the optimism that you can still find when taking a look at the reality of a story and understanding the limitations of a technology; that optimism seems so much more tangible and satisfying, the impact and the path to get there so much clearer.

Cleo, I'm so impressed you didn't have to put your name as the name of your show and that you were humble enough not to even say "with Cleo" but we all know it is your show. So many creators just need to constantly push themselves as the main "product" they produce instead of the topics they explore. It's very refreshing to see how you're doing it. I love @cleoabrams point at 31:21. As a commercial producer, I regularly try and coach my clients on feedback and ask them to communicate the problem they're feeling (I don't feel like the graphic is clear) rather than proposing the solutions themselves (make it bigger). That way the experts in creative communication (the art director, editor, copywriter, etc) can find the solution that fits the creative (add a subtle drop shadow to the text, try a light overall vignette to the picture, increase the graphic 5% rather than 20%, have it animate on rather than fade up, etc).

What differentiate Cleo feom most orher content creators is that everything feels genuine. Like bumping into a freind that is so excited to tell you about the latest thing they just learnt.

What’s to miss? She is an excellent journalist. She is intelligent, educated, articulate, informed. She researches well, she is an excellent presenter, very professional, and produces top quality videos that are informative, educational and very interesting. And let’s not avoid the “Elephant in the Room “ … The Lady is Stunning.

She looks like Keira Knightley which is a good thing. She's the main character in her channel not the guests that appear sometimes beauty and intelligence go hand in hand

Because she makes high quality content, she's genuinely interested and amazed (almost to a naive point) about technological discoveries and improvements AND IT SHOWS (so even if she makes a video about a topic I normally wouldn't care much about, I know she's going to get me hyped up about it), and she's very beautiful. I think those are the main reasons of her success

this was an insanely in-depth overview but the most interesting thing to me here is that I actually appreciate vox videos more now. Like, Cleo Abrams' videos all have a well defined point and direction as well as are honest. There are so many elements to why they work that I didn't even consider But Vox videos? sometimes the conclusion is often so disjoint from the actual video that it gives me whiplash. The 'lessons' such as the comment on how to use visuals was a helpful look into why I end up watching them anyways

Journalists report on news happening. Reviewers report on things available. The journalists agenda is their reading/watching public. The reviewers agenda is as an extended arm of the manufacturer. Creators are a different breed altogether with varying degrees of competence!

Great storytelling in education and documentary can be introducing a question and going on a journey to discover the answer. This is a realization I felt lucky to realize when I thought of it in the past. ;)
