Only pro player who has won a tournament this year with her (even then only partly along with Zafina) was Chanel and he has been playing her since she was released in arcades back in 2008! There is a better chance Paul and Bryan will likely dominate the competitive scene from now to Season 2.

I just made 73rd place in the NA road to evo tournament. One of my matches was a high level alisa player. It was so hard to win. It was so hard that I was in disbelief that I defeated Alisa as Law. The only things that worked was baiting out her hopkick by not punishing her after an attack, then 1,1,2 and wr 4. It felt like a 15 hour job after the match.

Alisa is actually my favorite character, she's been my main since T6. :P Haven't gotten my hands on T8 yet, so I can't comment on her in that, but from my experience with previous games in the franchise, I do see why she gets a lot of hate. I'm just personally a fan of Alisa *exactly because* she's such a powerful character, but that's not to say I'm biased. With her already being so powerful, it isn't exactly fair to *not* nerf Alisa while arguably even more powerful characters (if there are any) get that treatment. She was never nerfed in T7 either as far as I recall.

I used to think Yoshimitsu was unpredictable until I fought Alisa. What even is Neutral? What is this fabled legend called, "My turn?" Tekken is a fighting game? This whole time I thought it was a "How long will it take before I die while blocking?" game. Believe me she was range 4 came with diving chainsaws, range 0. I blinked once she was range 3. I blick again and got hellswept, uninstalled.

I don't understand why people hate cuteness in videogames, they always treat cuteness as a crime, something that shouldn't exist and something that should be erased in videogames, even more in fighting games. It took me over 400 games to get mighty ruler with Jun. I started playing Alisa a month or 2 ago and I’m already about to hit fujin in under 200 games. Never understood all the Jun hate minus the heat Smash, felt like the character was unreasonably hated. Now that I’m playing Alisa the hatred actually feels justified And it’s crazy people are now just catching on in tekken 8

Whilst I'll occasionally come across taunting scrubby main characters running Victor or Hwoarang, you don't need to learn the match up too much to have a fighting chance to take them down, usually by learning when to duck their key strings. Alisa mains are next level scrub, and consistently have the worst BM out of all of them.

I'm an Alisa main since her introduction. While she is basically free wins up until Fujin +, I think that firmly stops around Bushin. Once you start fighting people that know the matchup, she's pretty hard to win with IMO. Bc so much of her gameplay involves her being in the air she's extremely easy to float with jabs. Also her wall combos are bad.

I play against an Alisa multiple times every week because I got him into Tekken. Found some useful stuff while fighting him and researching the character to help him learn. The chainsaws were the thing that drew my eye as a Doom and 40K fan and the improved movement and Hellsweep on them has her in my next handful of characters to learn

The reason why Alisa's concept is very out of place was revealed on a talk with Dai Sato from Digital Frontier (the animation producer that makes the intros, endings and all cinematics of the Tekken games since the arcade version of Tekken 6), Sato is the director of the Blood Vengeance Movie (a movie that you will enjoy if you are a diehard fan of Xiaoyu and Alisa, if that's not the case, then just search the final battles of the movie between Heihachi, Kazuya and Jin,, is very well produced. And if you are a fan of lost media, it's spanish dub is lost media so get fun searching for it) and asked Harada how he came with Alisa. Harada say that Alisa took 5 minutes to be created as a concept, Harada really wanted a robotic character with detachable limbs, even the torso was gonna be detachable. He was not sure about how to develop that idea but he was sure of two things 1) The robotic character needed to have detachable limbs 2) It has to be a woman. If you look for some concepts arts of Alisa you can find that one of her concepts looks like Katarina Alves from Tekken 7. Probably Alisa is the only character who didn't pass to market studies and the months or even years of development to be created as the rest of the characters, she is there because the developers wanted to be there. She wasn't made to fit an specific market, she was made to fit the developers. Source: Remember when i told about Tekken Blood Vengeance? I main Alisa (Tekken King). I say no fighting game player is carried. This character being this good means almost all top rank players or professional players specifically train themselves against Alisa. At top rank everyone just dodges every second hit from Alisa, which usually would grant them the first win, before Alisas having to switch strategy. Once Alisa switched movement from mid-high combo to mid-mid combos, all the moves are no longer safe on block. By the way, Chanel plays really bad maining Alisa in recent tournaments. His chainsaw plays got beaten the shit out. People in east Asia like Alisa-liked character, they are having fun getting into this game, watching her animation, what's wrong with paying 70 dollar and having fun in their favorite game? Plus I think Alisa players are all friendly in general (most toxic players I encounter are Jins and Hwoarangs, it is very sad to say but true). And I think Law and Victor are way more broken. My God I hate that old face in that suit

The character just forces you to think about situations differently. Her pop-up wake up is one of them. As a Paul main, I want to rush in and force a 50/50 on wake-up, but this pop-up wake up that Alisa has just destroys me, as it looks nothing like the rest of the cast. I have a buddy that plays Alisa, and has flowcharted his way up to Fujin. Playing against him is frustrating and annoying, but I am now getting more wins than loses when I play against him.

Great vid! I agree with a lot of stuff including the info about her chip damage, it's craaaazzy. Worth noting that many top players have gone on record saying Alisa is actually NOT as easy to pick up and play as ppl may think since understanding how to properly use saws takes awhile. It's a big reason there are only Chanel clips in this video lol. Cuddle does amazing things with her too but it kinda stops there. Still a top 10 character and a great pick if you enjoy movement/neutral based characters!

Joined the Tekken community by... Tekken 8, so I'm a total Tekken noob. Alisa was the first character I put some real effort into learning. Tried a bunch of fighters, but she feels really smooth, responsive, well-rounded. I'm no top-tier player in any shape or form, but I'm having a ton of fun with her, both winning and losing.

As a developer myself It's a crazy oversight to push a character with so many strenght and almost no drawbacks, it feels like a huge bug they know about and they don't want to fix, and the bug name's Alisa if EVEN the training mode lacks good advices to deal with her kit (and some of them aren't reliable), then it's just a call for a patch before we get this game stuck in a dead state like Smash Ultimate, where DLC came in, but without any balancing patch (making Steve the best character of the game) In a game where micro spacing is important, where punishing is often the key to victory, having a fighter that's a threat at any range and level, no, that's a huge oversight or a voluntary mistake

They were kinda my least favorite aspect of her to *play* as. Eventually, some friends and I wanted to try playing T6, but none of my combos carried over at all so I decided to switch and learn Lili. Now I am LEGS

This is such a Mishima Boy Video .... I too Hated Alisa All the way back in Tag 2 .... So I picked her up to try and learn how to vs her and only after a Few days found her really Fun and Easy to Use .... AND Fun and Easy to Vs.... She then became my secondary ......It cracks me up that Mishima boys will defend Kazuya's BS Vortex where you have guess for your life .... but then have issues that you have to guess for your life vs Chainsaws .... Mishimas also have a Wavedash that they can change the timing of AND will realign them with the Opponent whereas Alisa's approach tools are a) Linear and b) a Fixed range. Yes she is easy to pick up and use .... but that is a double edged sword because it takes little effort to pick her up and understand how to vs her ..... Try doing that quickly with Tippy-Tappy BS Boy, Yo-man or Ling.

She certainly is easy comparing her to my time with Ling. Her combos can consist of mostly a simple UF1. When cornered she can B1+2 then fight her way out with chainsaws. I still enjoy fighting her but I think that's because I used her myself.

So, Tekken 8 is my first fighting game, and when I picked it up, I had a friend who offered to help me learn. What he did, was 1v1 me, and all he did was use Alisa. I picked her in 7 because I accidentally clicked on her on the menu when starting to play the game and just stuck with her. I personally think especially in 8 you need to prevent situations where she sets up destruction stance and realise that when you gain the momentum of the battle alisa is hard to do a comeback because of her damage and tools. But that's my opinion

Especially when you understand his stance transitions and can react to his slow ass lows like SE 2 he can only open you up with Lows that don’t do any damage and everytime he uses it it’s death for him . This is why you don’t see any Lars in a tournament but Alisa is always present

I actually kinda like her design but she felt terrible to play as when I tried her out in practice mode. Whereas with someone like Jin, 2,1,4 gives you a straight, a jab, and a lowkick, Alisa does weird unpredictable stuff that is not intuitive at all, flying around the screen. I can see how she'd be fun, but it really did feel more like piloting a mech or robot and I didn't have a one to one sense of connection to the character's movements.

Personally this is my first Tekken and I love fighters I’ve always chosen the dashy characters or ones I liked and Alisa was fun for me and I liked her aesthetic. I thought an cutesy anime chick flying around with chainsaws was dope then I got hit with hate when I got higher in rank I was so confused😭

There are chainsaw moves she does where if you block it her turn is over, but most people don't know that and just keep respecting her and keep letting her mash. Good vid but you kind of frame it like once the saws are out there's nothing you can do and she has infinite advantage. You're right that you generally need to predict what she's going to do, but the odds are mostly in your favor, believe it or not. Just do a little research into what moves are generally safe to crouch jab after, which moves her turn ends if you block, and which moves are safest to just keep blocking (not many).

tbh you are just saying positives. she has more flaws then you think. we rarely can combo launch a skilled player. Alisa has always been a poke character. her chip damage u can literally just low punch / fast frame her out of her saws. shes not some op character. shes yoshimisu, jin and literally long range character combined.

In T7 Alisa’s only way to get into chainsaws was block punish and a slow FC sweep. She was rewarded with chainsaws when opponent made a mistake. And she didn’t have back/forward dash in chainsaws in T7 and no chip. Opponent could backdash a few times to get out. Or sidestep. But in T8 she will chase you with forward dash if you passively block and kill you with chip. She already had lots of knowledge checks in T7 that you had to lab and find character specific counters to beat. Even in high level matches I find people letting Alisa to do some bullshit mixups where opponent should have 100% OS float combo every time. But they let her mix instead. As you said DES 1 is -9 and slow animation. Opponent should take their forced mixup. That safe i13 mid does over 50 damage in T8 as they made the oki guaranteed (can’t ground roll anymore). And people let Alisa do d3 and running 2 without duck launching. And in low ranks b3+4,3+4 is braindead. Launch punishable, but you need to lab your OS (needs to both launch and float and have high enough hitbox). Or step the followup. I have labbed the matchup and played her too, so I have almost 100% win rate against her. I was doing an anti-anti cheese guide in T7, but never finished it. In T8 she still has lots of cheese, but chainsaw pressure isn’t cheese and she can continue it much better and she has now much more ways to get to chainsaws. Anti-cheese guide doesn’t help against that anymore.

In T8 her df1,1,1+2 become a massive cheese string. 60 damage guaranteed on counter hit. Plus on block to chainsaws. Opponent can duck launch it, but the last hit has a lingering hitbox. Have to time punish perfectly to launch it. Unusable at high level, OP at low/mid level. Bamco could nerf her cheese a bit to make the matchup more enjoyable, without actually nerfing her tournament viability much at all. At least in T8 they took away the stupid node bleed stun (launch if you didn’t hold d) and her ground float. Yes, she could launch you from ground in T7.
