You forgot to mention the frequent power outages. You’ve talked about them in your previous videos. I spend 2 months in Cabarete in the winter and I love it! If you want a good spot to swim, just in front on Lifestyle’s ocean is always pretty calm 😎. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your videos 👏🏻

I was there with my sister in law for two weeks. She felt so happy and relaxed that she ended up buying a house. (She is American) It’s just a total different life style. The quality of food is another thing. Fresh fruits and vegetables are so affordable and they taste so different. You feel and see the difference the minute you come back home. I know some people that have gone complete off medications by just moving to DR. The noice annoys me too and when I was there I wrote a letter to the governors about the garbage, however, unfortunately there seems to be problem everywhere and I am glad to see that your priorities are in place and things that you don’t like you still have a good attitude towards. Keep having fun and saying yess to your happy place.

I spend the last week in the DR at the Iberostar Costa Dorada. The beach is really different from one day to an other and sometime the waves bring a lot of sea weeds, tree branches and garbage on the beach. We walked on the side of Playa Dorada and it’s a little better there. We spend last wednesday in Cabarete and this place is just amazing. The beach is just perfect, we spend hours playing on the waves and we had lunch at the Mojito Bar, the feet on the sand. ❤ It was so quiet, we felt like if we had the beach for ourselves. We wanted to go back during the weekend but the weather wasn’t on our side. Next time I’ll come back in the DR it’s gonna be in Cabarete for sure. The vibe is different.

You found one of my favourite restaurants on the North Coast! (which I would argue goes as far as Luperón) and you are right, the food at Maria’s is very good! They also have an amazing cocktail list. If you enjoy Mexican food, when you do get up our way (just west of Puerta Plata), check out Charro’s in Cofresi. In town, do do the touristy stuff; the fort, Del Oro chocolate or one of the rum factories, the malecon, and the teleférico. Other restaurants I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend would be: Los Tres Cocos or Stephie & Natale’s (both in Cofresi), La Laconda (great sushi), Kaffe (amazing crepes) and make sure to go up to La Catalina for a sunset dinner. It’s on the pricey side, but absolutely amazing views and it’s so cool to see the POP airstrip light up when the planes land or take off. We fell in love with the Dominican people on our first visit back in 2001, but do remind visitors to beware as many believe that all foreigners are rich and some (certainly a minority) will and do try to take advantage. Also, the driving is a little crazier in Puerta Plata than in some other areas. Personally, I am not a big fan of Playa Dorada, as I prefer less busy places. Granted, any decent DR beach gets crazy busy on the weekends. We are back in NS now, but already counting the days until we return to our beautiful North Coast community in the fall. Thanks again for the Cabarete recommendations. We are still talking about how great the burgers were at Knuckleheads.

You should go to "Friends" for breakfast. Also I heard the seafood restaurants called Wilson is very good. I've never been to "Wilson's La boca", but will go in June when I go to Cabarete. It was recommended to me.

I’ve been watching for a few years so have seen a lot of your travels around the world. I am just finishing my first ever visit to the DR which I was curious about because of your videos! This time I only got to Punta Cana and got to experience a resort and an apartment. I’m so glad this video addressed the garbage issue because I was a bit shocked. Everything else is soooo good, weather, people, beach but the garbage was a big turn off and I was ready to write off the DR but this video has me reconsidering . Would you say Cabarete is the best place to go on the North Coast for a better impression? Thanks for your informative videos!

We're use to it now (seeing it Globally) but we so hope it improves. Cabarete in the DR is a bit better overall for it but it's still something you'll see. Good morning guys, I'm going to recommend a beach in the north, called La Ensenada, to see if you can go do a report from there. I recommend going from Monday to Thursday, which is much calmer, because on the weekends there is Quite a few people on the beach, but go there, do a report and then let me know how it went. We are following it from here, I love their program and I watch them all week, one day I'm going to go there to meet them. I'm in New York but I'm Dominican.

La Ensenada is one of the most beautiful beaches along North coast. Truly fell in love. The 1 restaurant right at entrance had very good " plate of day"😁😁

Also, it does rain there sometimes days at a time. It just happened maybe 2 weeks ago. My in laws live in torre Alta in puerto plata. There can be occasional flooding. The country is improving. Power outages used to last for hours or a full day. Now it’s not as frequent and as long. So buy a generator if you’re planning on moving.

Cabarete is very multicultural! We are from Ontario and have a condo/Airbnb in Encuentro that we use a few months in the winter time but i could NOT live there full_ time ! Super stressfull and chaotic to get anything done and it is not cheap .Driving is insane there gives me panic attacks 🤷 Vacation yes absolutely!To live no way😄

You have to try Playa Los Minos in Rio San Juan right at center of town near Laguna Grigri is a must try. Also, in La Entrada, Cabrera you have Playa Los Muertos is very particular because it has a cemetery right in the beach. Next to it is Arroyo Salado is another one to try in the same area.fyi

Thanks! So there is general public healthcare which we hear isn't so great. But there's also private hospitals where you can pay and get top notch treatment. It's easy to get in to see a doctor. You can practically just walk into a clinic and see one depending on the day - Trevor

Restaurant marie got very expensive since 2021. I used to stay in ocean village in 2020z They raise their prices from 500-800 peso to now 700-2000 peso. You guys are balling over there .

Great information Trevor and Anna! We have been thinking about spending 1-2 months in the DR in 2025 (getting out of the winter). Have not decided on area yet (LT or C) having a swimmable beach is very important and hopefully being able to get sun shade and chairs while on the beach? Wondering if you can comment on that? We would rent a place similar to how you guys do it but would need to be walking distance to beach restaurants. We have been to PC and love that area , yes the AI resorts because it is easy but too expensive for anything more than 2 weeks. Have a great day

Can swim at Cabarete beach. Some days alittle more waves then others. Always chairs and umbrellas available at Cabarete with the restaurants. Some will charge ( if not eating at their restaurant). Lots of condos available within walking to Cabarete Beach. Also 1 ALL inclusive on Cabarete Beach as well( villa Tangerine). 😁

I recently heard that the north part of the DR got slammed during Hurricane Beryl. Was there flooding in the streets? Did the electricity go out? Did the villas and apartment buildings have any damage? Did the residents evacuate their homes? What happened?

God's country. My parents migrated from that area back in the 60's to the US and happy to see that the world is enjoying one of the most beautiful (physically and culturally) on the planet. That area has always been a favorite for expats from all over the world for many years and has turned this area into a true melting pot. Thank you for bringing its beauty to KZbin.

Its a three tiered system... basic which is provided by govt (lowest), employer provided (better) and private (fully paid by you) which is actually very good and some plans included dental, drugs and private rooms. The private plans are very affordable especially when compared to the US.

Cabarete Beach ... in front of lifestyles is usually the calmest. But outside of Cabarete I'd say Playa Sosua 👍 - Trevor
