Just got back from Las Terrenas. I hear you for the issues with all the new builds going on and the worries with the infrastructure being able to manage it all!! We have been traveling here for a while now. Its a worry for us as well. We were there during a major rain for two days and experienced areas that flooded. We also experienced power outage, so it is a worry moving forward. For that reason we are only renting so we always have the option to travel to other places without the worry of looking after a place. Seeing the villa's that flooded around us was very sad and to think they are owned by people who were not there. We love Las Terrenas, the culture, the beaches. We will continue to stay there but only as renters.

For a few years I've been wondering where to live in the D.R. when I move there from the UK, Cabarete, Sosua or Las Terrenas. I used to love Las Terrenas until the big "secret paradise" got out and now every one loves it and I think it will soon get overcrowded and that beautiful town getting spoilt. But it's over hyped now and property prices are now, for a long while now, extortionate. But the one big issue I have with Las Terrenas is that even though it's so beautiful, from what I've seen in videos, I fear I would get bored there and it's so far from other towns, and you're just stuck there in the middle of nowhere (except Samana), and I also fear that I would be suicidal living there because it seems so boring, (but still beautiful), I don't mean suicidal literally, but I hope you know what I mean. And I just love Playa Ballena and that long stretch of road beside it and I love Bonita Village that's close by too.

Great question/comment . Samana weather can change suddenly . It does get lots of rainstorms and booming thunder in the late summer months . So flash flooding is a concern in such hilly terrain . This is a CON . The weather can move in suddenly and surprise you . 🥵 True !

However the sun comes out within 24/48 hours after the downpour and the visual beauty is shocking ! So , if you're not comfortable with the situation it's best to get astray at at a mayor hotel for a weekend ?Adventure , nature , discomfort , beauty , heaven , are key words .Get out and live , some don't because they spook easily . 👀 🤣😁

Recently visited the DR … stayed in Punta Cana and took a day trip to Santo Domingo… it was extremely depressing seeing the poverty, extreme poverty and very poor living conditions for the native people… piles of garbage on the roads, poor people waiting on the side of the roads/highways daily waiting be chosen to work by piling people on the backs of open pick up trucks, very dirty areas and shacks, this was our experience and this is what we saw driving from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo. It was very sad to see how high the poverty is for the native people. And the river in Santo Domingo was horrible. The smell was very, very bad. The city seemed dirty and dusty.

😧 Holy cow, where in Santo Domingo you went to? I have never seen anything as described there. Of course there's poverty and there are people living under the poverty line, it is a developing country after all, I've found very poor people in Arizona where I live too.

@@geogmz8277 i know there is poverty everywhere. But this is a type of poverty I had never seen before. It was really very sad and trust me Arizona would not come near to this what I saw.

@@sheilads8761 You have to go to California, and see for yourself the poverty in that state. The state spent 25 billions dollars per year on homeless, Something you might want to know.
