People over complicate excercises because it makes them look more creative/different yet their physique and strength stay the same progressive overload on the basic compound movements is the most "functional" way to train for the majority of people

I build houses for a living, and my body is pretty damn functional as a result 😅

no doubt. in fact, the fitness industry was not conceived for people like you, but for white collars 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. :-)

failed a job interview at a gym once because i incorrectly prescribed a 'functional' exercise (deadlifting apparently wasn't one of them), man i despise that term.

Don't despise the term.....just step back and realize....basic human movements and the multitude of movements that mimic reinforce and strengthen them.....most people in McGyms have no business deadlifting.....however banded good mornings might be a better alternative ....

The problem with this is people get paralysed by thinking they can never do anything. I mean seriously... GARDENING? Very often the best way to get people back to basic human movements, is to do the bloody movements (obviously at a level they can handle). The body is tough and adaptable, stop pretending its not.

So we need to do functional training to regain our function so we can safely perform functional training. Got it.

You are very intelligent and FRS principles are amazing. But i see how you are walking, you have gait dysfunctions. This is very clear, you externally rotate your legs and strike your heel first. For me knowing is important, but actually being an example of what you are talking is more important. Here you are talking about functional and is very clear your gait is dysfunctional.

Jean Pierre Botto so by viewing an unclear video and by literally doing what he is saying not to do (avoid one size fits all) you are diagnosing him online???

So you've seen him walk for 1 minute and can already tell he's "dysfunctional"? Do you toss out the word dysfunctional out to your clients when their gait is off? I'd love to learn more about how to make Dr. Dre more functional.

@@Sport4Life So funny. Thought the same thing. Funny thing is Dre would be able to display this guy's arbitrary parameters for "functional gait" or "dysfunctional gait" on command. He could walk "properly" or "improperly" as he decides.

From 0:22-0:25 you can CLEARLY see the guy has a dysfunctional gait.

He's giving a lecture: lots of people do weird things with their bodies when they're in front of a room full of people. I think you guys are reading too much into it. You're assuming he can't walk normally just because you see him walking like a fruit in a 2 minute video: it's like saying someone can't make a fist because they rest their hands in a scholars cradle while speaking for 2 minutes!

For me only Functional Patterns is functional training
