I’m 2 months or so into listening to Brian and went straight to Cerberus Strength to buy my very own sandbag. Been training with barbells for 44 years but sandbags are on a different level. I also purchased Brian’s EDC Carry program. Two nights ago I get a call at 2 AM from my neighbor who fractured his shoulder a few weeks back and fell getting out of bed trying to get to the bathroom. His wife was hysterical because he’s a 190 lb man and she couldn’t help him. I can agree with Brian that there was no knurling and a balanced load on this man but training with sandbags up and down my driveway made it easy to help my neighbor get safely back to bed after a rough night. Thanks Brian. Keep the vids coming our friend.

No lie? That's awesome. Couple months ago at my gym I saw a dude training with sandbags and kettlebells for a solid 45 minutes. Then he did a bunch of wrestling "neck bridges" (is that the right term?) Didn't see him touch a barbell once - and he was BUILT like a tank haha. Heavy sandbags and calisthenics is the way to go!
@chingchingbling2145 Жыл бұрын
@@lullsbaby9321I only trained with sandbags for a couple of months and it completely changed my body from the bottom up to becoming more "tanky" and thick. I think I'll add kettlebells as well. Lifting heavy odd heavy daily objects are much much easier now compared to when I trained with barbells or dumbbells. We must always remember the principle of "specific adaptations to imposed demands". Unless you are training to be a barbell athlete, there is simply no need to train with a barbell.

I'm glad information like this is getting out there now. Sandbags are an awesome tool. I remember during the mid 2010s, everything besides squat, bench, dead, and OHP were sneered at and treated like some sort of blasphemous witchcraft. I was following Wendler's 5/3/1 at the time, and loved, it, but was always moving my body in other ways as well. It is important.

Love this video ! My gym has several sandbags from 30 kg up to 70 kg. I weight 70 kg. I love doing a clean and toss with the 30 and doing carries with the 40 . That's my limit ! I love the functional aspect , as Brian has indicated : there is nothing in the real world aka outside the gym that you are going to pick off the floor that is shaped and weighted like a barbell . There's plenty that is nearer the sandbag - or heavy kettlebell . Highly aerobic work too ...👍

I can personally attest to how much sandbags help me as a medical professional in a hospital setting. I'm basically just an orderly so I constantly move people in awkward positions. Just another helpful note here, if you can do work that mixes your grips up it helps. Like using a towel or a blanket instead of metal handles occasionally since it is pretty common to run into things without a good way to hold on in the real world.

Great for grappling sports, also shouldered a 220 bag for 50 reps in 20 minutes and a 300 bag for 10 singles each shoulder, very very good for sports conditioning and strength

Cody, the biggest problem I see you facing in the near future is how to increase the size of your skull. I mean, your philosophical insight and penchant for contemplation is surely maxing out your brain gains! Where are you gonna put it now that your brain's hench? You just gonna let it tear through your cranium like Lou Ferrigno's bicep through David Banner's shirt? P.S. My 300lb sandbag arrived. I've dried out 200lb of gravel...but being underfilled, it's both a weight i can easily lift yet the bag folds stupidly when i attempt to lift it! So, I've added in 4x11.3lb bags of sand to filled the dead space... ...now it's too heavy to lift! 😂 I'll work away with my other 135lb sandbag and keep doing 180lb bearhug weight plate carries at the gym until i can man handle the 300lb'er! P.P.S. Check out "The Bioneer" channel and "Team 3D Alpha" (especially his early videos). I think you'll find them interesting...oh, and Pat Mac's channel for outdoor-ex-special-forces crazy training modalities.

People who don't think sandbag training is functional have never tried to pick one up. Nothing will humble you like trying to pick up a heavy sandbag for the first time and realizing how weak you actually are.

You hit the money on the head. I used to work at a restaurant, and one day the dining room's ice-maker broke. So the owner bought 50-100lbs. bags of ice to store in the main freezer. A lot of the guys, a decade younger than me and regular "gym bros" had trouble getting it out of the main freezer and carrying it to the dining room ice maker. The bags were awkward, not evenly weighted, you had jagged points poking you, and heavy. A lot of the gym bros had trouble even picking it up. Because I'd been training sandbags thanks to Brian's insistence, it was "easy" for me. Easy to pick up and carry - but still work because... Well... Heavy is heavy (and I was still the novice for lifting heavy functionally). So yeah you hit the nail on the head. Functional means ACTUAL, REAL LIFE scenarios. Something that barbells and 45lb plates just can't train you for 😂 Years later I'm back at this video again, still learning and improving technique.
