The change in quality is intended. The writing is designed to please fools and it works. Ratings kept rising with Season 7. I believe the feedback to the early seasons showed that the mass audience didn't get the subtleties so the writers went the way they knew would keep the series popular. The writing has now reached porn film quality. The plot is merely there to lead to the scenes people actually want to see. Lannister soldiers do not flee from the dragon because you want to see them burn. The dead dragon sinks into a lake because it's a sad moment. Sansa and Arya antagonise each other because it makes for some drama and Littlefinger was simply killed after being reduced to a sobbing wretch to make people happy.

Writing designed to please fools...couldn't have said it better myself. I got into the show early on because the writing was fucking awesome! Trying to keep up with the mental games of chess...I know they had the books to rely on...but damn...the show took a nose dive.

As always, you find exactly what bothers with this season, and manage to perfectly echo the thoughts I couldn't quite phrase. D&D just honestly look like they don't even care anymore. Also, I totally agree about the Nymeria scene. Arya is my favorite character and I think Maisie Williams acted that scene perfectly, and it carried all the emotional weight it should have. I just really hope they won't ruin it by bringing her back for the final battle or something.
@LoganBluth3 жыл бұрын
See, I _would_ have cared about the Arya-Nymeria reunion, except we haven't seen, nor even heard MENTION of her since the second episode of season ONE! Eliminating Arya's frequent Wolf Dreams throughout her story means I just don't give a crap about this and reduces it to glorified fan service. 🤷♂️

Still the best show on television. When I want REAL thrones I always go back to the books. And we all know what the common person wants in a tv show...drama, explosions, gunfire, flashy colored lights, half nude or fully nude females, large muscles, fast cars, zombies, easy story lines and a limited number of characters so it's easy to follow and hbo is giving as much of those as they can and we all know why;) Anyways, Great video as usual and keep em coming:):):)

I don't think it is the best on television though. I get they have a waaaaay bigger cast and strorylines and everything else to deal with but imo most shows have far tighter narrative and scripting. Got is preeettty bad here. It is the most sensational I will give it that.
@LoganBluth3 жыл бұрын
At this point in the show's run it was REALLY not the best show on television. It was basically a shoddily written soap opera, it was Passions with 50 times the production budget. 🤣

The most amazing thing is how most people I know who never read the books love the show as much now as they ever did. I can't say what I'd think if I did not read the books, but I feel sure I'd notice the difference. I still had my rose coloured glasses on until season 5(though I criticized elements previously) I overlooked them in my enthusiasm. But season 5 came and it was so obvious to me the narrative was not holding up. I still watch because, yeah, the sensationalized elements keep me entertained enough. I tend to look at it scene by scene and forget the books. I don't really care what the ending is, in terms of similarity or spoilers because to me the characters are not the book characters and there are too many differences. HOW a story gets to it's end imo really tells the true ending. How it feels, the impact, the reasons, the journey - it matters.

I don't know why you are surprised. Martin wasn't involved with the writing. The show was great because Martin was helping with the writing.
@eb74465 жыл бұрын
Yes and No. It had greatness to it(each season increased in flaws if you break it down) because they had his narrative and story beats. He didn't help much with actually writing the scripts. Without his narrative, imo the story is held up by basically everything but good plotting and writing. It has lazy writing intended for twists and FEELS. But little logic. It is held up by the acting, directing, the visuals and the sensationalism.

Just a quick question, which Baratheon did you support to take the Throne, Stannis or Renly?
@Nick-4K6 жыл бұрын
You can tell they aren't following the books anymore. The show seems to be more streamlined with the fat trimmed from it. Which I'm not really against, however, for a show with 6 seasons of this not happening it is quite evident.
@asinineintelligence61947 жыл бұрын
I think that because Rhagar was obsessed with the Azor Ahai prophecy, and by this time, (in the show) Aegon is dead, and or missing, it just made sense to her to name him Aegon.
@LoganBluth3 жыл бұрын
Elia's son, Aegon, CAN'T be dead at this point, either in the show OR the books, because Tywin doesn't attack King's Landing until after Robert kills Rhaegar at the Trident. So, no matter what. Rhaegar and/or Lyanna decided to name their son Aegon despite Rhaegar still having a living son by Elia named Aegon. No matter how you look at it, this decision in the show was hilariously short--sighted and idiotic, just like so many of their decisions in the latter half of the show's run.
@LoganBluth3 жыл бұрын
@nevertweet015 This would make sense, except that the woman in the vision is blatantly Elia. In the exact same vision Rhaegar says to the woman: "There must be one more, the dragon has three heads." So he obviously only has TWO children at this point and Elia's Aegon was their second child together. Not to mention the fact that the woman in the vision has already given birth and is nursing the babe at her breast, whereas Rhaegar was long dead before Jon was born. There's no way around it, this was an incredibly stupid show decision that makes zero sense in universe.

They are concerned with ratings. That's what they were working for, not that thing a few nerds in some corner of the Internet call "quality". They achieved their goals fully and more idiots than ever are buying Danaerys on Drogon super combo figurines or replicas of Longclaw. I suppose this is where the real money is, by the way, since you cannot torrent them.

I personally loved the season, and the Winterfell plotline was actually my favourite. However nobody can deny it was fanservice to the extreme. Not to mention the fact characters were jumping around Westeros was really disappointing, as it took away from the vast and immersive world that series is usually known for.

I think it unfair for the Rhaegar and Lyanna critique. They had to explain in a simple and fast because the episode was already very, It would have been too long to show everything you say. Maybe they show something in Season 8. Bear in mind Jon might want to know more thing about his parents from Bran, when he learns his origins at last.

D&D lack story means lank of money for 10 episode
@LoganBluth3 жыл бұрын
All parties confirmed at the time that HBO offered them as much money as they needed for however many episodes they needed, HBO even offered to keep the show going for multiple more seasons if that was what was required. Why on earth WOULDN'T HBO want Game of Thrones to go on for as long as possible?!? It made them FAAAR more money than it cost them to produce. But D&D refused and wanted to wrap up the show as quickly as possible because they were burnt out, and they also refused to allow another showrunner to take over and finish the story properly. So, instead we got..... _this_ 😞

There are so many theories on why GoT has dipped in quality. I definitely agree that it has. My original theory was mainly the butterlfy effect. And I still think that's important to why it went downhill. As well as a lack of source material for the last two seasons. But I'm not gonna say it isn't possible that they've lost their passion for it or that the fanservice is completely intentional. One thing I do wonder about though is how George feels about all this. I wonder if he's felt the same dip in quality as so many of us have and how he feels about it.

To add on to Casterly Rock and Highgarden. I thought the look and feel of the castles totally went underdeveloped as well. In terms of location it was fine but they looked so generic. Given they are the 2 richest houses in Westeros. But then again, they only get seen in a few episodes :/

I disagree with the idea that it is an inevitability that Jon's parents will be Rhaegar and Lyanna (in the books). It is certainly a possibility, but there are other possibilities as well. In the show, it just seemed like they did R+L=J for fanservice, and to make Jon a Mary Sue who is the king as well as the savior of the world. However, I find it hard to believe that George R.R. Martin will make Jon into such a cliched fantasy protagonist. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if Jon's mother was someone unimportant, like Wylla, in order to go against overused tropes.
@Teabagsforlife7 жыл бұрын
The worst thing about Dan and Dave, is that hbo knew they were tired doing the show so offered for new writers to take over, who were working with George on prequels. But Dan and dave refused. So not only has the show gone down in quality because they don't care anymore but their such ego maniacs they won't hand "their show" to anyone else. Plus the fact they have to come up with what happens now instead of just translating a book into a script, really shows that without George rr Martin it's just another Hollywood fantasy show . So sad...

Half of the plot lines resolved into nothing, none of what any of the characters did made ANY sense, the other half seemed like tacked on fan service, and they teleported more characters than they did in Star Trek.

The CGI this season was fantastic. Unfortunately D&D Have been dumbing down the writing since the end of season 4 the Littlefinger death was total fan service. He's one step ahead of everybody (Tywin, Cersei, the Stark's, Tyrell's, Lysa Aryn, Yohn Royce, ect...) for 6 seasons, then he gets out foxed by Sansa & the Stark children? REALLY? Also D&D never bothered to tie up the loose end how Sansa lied to Yohn Royce for Littlefinger on how Lysa fell from the moon door ! I guess that's just swept under the carpet! (Very lazy writing!) I still love GOT, but I Guess D&D have made their millions & lost interest. Maybe it is for the best that they end it with next seasons finale before D&D totally ruin GRRM's master piece!!

The problem is much deeper that a season and the fans of the books know it... Half of the plotlines are missing and the rest have been made poor and lazy.

I dont get the hate with D&D they dedicated a decade of their life for GOT and everybody is shitting on them. At least they did it, unlike all those who critics and focus WAY too much on the things they would've wanted instead of seeing all the good stuff s07 had to offer. It cant be season 1 all over again, the show changed because the story progressed, easy to call peaople "lazy" , harder to just wtch and enjoy a show that took months of hard work to create.
