This is my kinda bible study! Wish I could join you there in the dining room. ;) I, too, found you because of your commentary on The Chosen and decided to subscribe to your channel to catch your covering of the next episode(s). I really appreciate Tom's little nuggets of wisdom on the historical context of 1st Century Israel. In between episodes, I intend to catch up on your past Grafted podcasts as well because we can never stop learning from each other. I also really enjoy your humor. :)

Similar to many others I found you guys because of the chosen and I felt that I learnt so much more from not just watching the Chosen but also understanding the scripture on a deeper level because of your explanations!! 👍🏻❤️🙏🏻 Towards the end when you guys said “your kingdom come..” reminds me of the Lord’s Prayer. I love you guys and I love your wife already! I also am a horticulturist(only 5 syllables, not 6 🤣) Another important thing in grafting is the branch has to be in the same family (Family>Genus>Species) as the vine/tree, etc. The branch also has to be as close fit as possible so that the graft can be successful.

I first found the channel of Sergio and Rhoda in Israel and only recently came across your channel through your reaction videos to The Chosen. Thank you for your videos, and providing context historically and culturally to both The Chosen series and for the New Testament. Many Christians do not know much about Jewish customs and traditions or Hebrew and it helps if they can know more about these matters so they gain a better and deeper understanding of the New Testament and of Yeshua. Your channel provides much of this. Toda raba!

I'm glad I found this episode as I've enjoyed many of your Chosen discussions. As a young agricultural Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay back in the 70s, I learned grafting. I heard you mention that wild branches with one DNA can be grafted into a cultivated tree. My experience was that the grapefruit trees had great resistance to many diseases and great, healthy root systems. So we would graft oranges and lemons onto the grapefruit trees. My point is that the healthy tree, Israel, isn't just cultivated, but has many attributes that make it a perfect host for other DNAs to be grafted onto. Also, an interesting point to ponder is that grafting requires a close relation, i.e., citrus to citrus. To my knowledge, apples can't be grafted onto a citrus tree. I'm still ruminating on your words: "salvation of Israel." It's my understanding now that your focus is unity of the messianic family, Jews and gentiles grafted into the family of Messiah, using your words.

I believe as I have been taught when the Scriptures talk about Israel, it is referring to the faithful, not the country of Israel or Jews who do not believe in Jesus as our Savior. Jesus also says, “I am the vine and you are the branches.”

You are correct. Even ethnic Israel is not just Jews. Jews are from two tribes predominantly. God knows where the rest of the tribes are and has been calling them out since Jesus’ first coming as he said he was coming for the lost sheep of Israel and James addresses his letter to the 12 tribes. They recognized the significance but most believers have no idea. We do not replace Jews. God promised to bring the ten northern tribes back.

I am so glad ya 'll discussed this. I attended a messianic congregation for a year.I didn t continue because the lady who taught Hebrew kept trying to get everyone to quit going to their christian churches as though we could become Jewish. That s not what Rabbi taught.I now am in another Bible school. My 3rd one. I am aggravated. They teach once saved always saved even that Judas Iscariot went to heaven. I 've never believed any of that stuff. It makes me angry. It s NOT TRUE!!! The scripture you discuss glaringly exhibits that. Thank you.

Question: so is John 15 referring to a different setting than that of Romans 11? Or is the nation of Israel still a theocracy, divinely guided by God? Is their house left desolate as per Matthew 23:38? And if left desolate, what follows? Would there then be a spiritual Israel into which both believing Jews and believing gentiles are grafted into the Vine or Olive tree?

I’m glad I found you guys, seeing a Chosen reaction video, and I try to watch more when I can. Here’s a question for you to ponder. When talking to a non-Christian or atheist, how do you answer the “why” question. If they ask why didn’t God just snap his fingers and destroy the devil instead of creating hell to put him in, or why didn’t he just erase sin instead of making Jesus sacrifice himself for all of us, or some other question as to why one thing is a sin and another one isn’t. My pastor has a very simple answer to that question, God is God and we are not, so he gets to make whatever rules he wants and we can’t argue. How do you get a non believer to wrap their head around and accept that, rather than letting them say “that’s unjust so I don’t accept your God?” I would love to hear you thoughts on why is God the way He is. Also, do you guys have a FB page or something? Keep up the good work!

God is righteous - He cant do things unrighteously or non judicially . See all including the angels , fallen ones also are His creation. There is no salvation for fallen angels because sin originated in them starting with lucifer. But since all created spirits are eternal . They need to be housed -Hence hell was a place for such. However man (Adam) fell because of temptation and sin entered the human world. Now to accept sinful man would be against the judicial nature of God and He would be challenged by the devil . So God had salvation in mind through His Son Jesus becoming a man . When Adam failed , the whole human race fell, so if Jesus as a man succeeded - could lead a life without sin and be the representation of the new man ( new creation) - then all of mankind under Him could be saved . This is talked about in Romans 5: 12-20 . God could not erase sin, without punishing it as a judge ( which is what happened at the cross) . There was no other way for salvation for God to redeem us righteously from sin, apart from Jesus going to the cross ! That’s what makes it all beautiful. Knowing full well the suffering that God would have to go through( hence Rev 13:8 - the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world) He still went ahead and created man out of His love. God just had to speak to create the world, but He had to bleed for Him to save it.

““For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:8-9‬ ‭NIV‬‬ It takes one who seeks the truth to know the truth when one’s heart is opened. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬ He gave us the freedom when we are made new. Even though we are new creations, even though our sins are crucified to the cross when Jesus died for us, it doesn’t mean we will sin no more. Everyday is a choice-a choice to constantly take up our cross and follow Him.

Shalom from Charlotte, NC. Messianic Jew here, soon to be member at Hope of Israel congregation (led by Sam Nadler). Really enjoying your channel thus far! One thing that stood out to me in this video is while I agree with all of the conclusions you made in this video, I’ve been taught that the Olive Tree is not representing salvation, but instead about service. Meaning that some Jews have been broken off from their service to God and some Gentiles have been grafted in, but not to be arrogant as they can be broken off from their service, but not from salvation as you cannot lose your salvation. Would love to hear your thoughts on this?

@@codyalexander3290 I personally believe the New Covenant has started, but also has a LOT more fulfillment yet to take place in the future Millennial Kingdom and Heavenly Kingdom. So, I actually agree with you that in the mosaic covenant there was the ability to have God's Law written on the heart and really throughout all history. But, that is only a small part of the promises of the New Covenant that was made to Israel and Judah spoken of in Jeremiah 31 and many other places in the prophets.

I wonder what Torah observant means? It sounds like a burden or distraction from relationship with Yeshua.

The goal of the Torah is to lead us to Yeshua (Romans 10:4) and we must have our identity in Him first. GOD created us all with different callings and functions, male, female, Jews and Gentiles. This was also true in ancient Israel, Levites and priests had different callings and functions than the other tribes and only women could follow the laws of purification and childbirth. Our goal is to become who GOD created us to be, unified as the family of Messiah but with distinctions because we are image bearers of the Godhead that also displays unity with distinctions, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Ultimately, the family of Messiah has to become like our Creator, unified with distinctions.

Responding quickly here and will add more later, but I considered myself a “Torah observant “ believer for many years and watch many people deny Yeshua as a result, because the focus was on Torah and not Yeshua. It’s not worth losing Him over and I would encourage you to get into the Gospels again, and focus on that. Our own righteousness is nothing but filthy rags and we are nothing without Him.

There is a healthy balance that needs to be obtained. We need to remember we can't work or earn our salvation. However after justification we are to be Sanctified and that is what the Torah is for. And we should not kid ourselves, in this life we will stumble, ideally as we grow in the faith that happens less and less. And I personally think it should if not then something is worng. Also we should remember that tore observances more than just keeping Sabbath festivals so on and so forth while that is a part of it it's also treating others with respect honor dignity loving our neighbor as ourselves. It's also not lying honoring our parents. Not coveting not stealing. Sometime I think we can hyperfocus on one aspect of Torah, and forget the Spirit of Torah that we are supposed to walk in. Their are weighted matters and lesser matters, but we should strive to walk in them all by the power of the Holy Spirit. Now for me I think the 2 most beautiful things that happened to me when I discovered the fullness of Torah are realizing just how much of a sinner I really am but in spite of that the fact that you shua still sacrifice himself on the cross. I think it's fair to say that most people think a little better of themselves until they discovered the fullness of Torah and realize just how far off the mark they really are it's a good moment of self-awareness that is much needed in our walk because it causes us to fall that much more in love with what God has done and who he is. The second beautiful thing is just the amount of blessing that comes with trying to walk out the fullness of God's word there really is changes that happened in one's life in one's relationships. I think those things are the manifestations and or the results of the sanctification of our life which comes as a result of a trying to walk out the fullness of the Torah. Its truly a beautiful thing!
