Why Hollow Knight is a Masterpiece

One of the things that made Hollow Knight so special is that it came during a massive lull in the Metroidvania genre, and many newer games are obviously drawing inspiration (and assets) from it that keep them from having that same magic that Hollow Knight has.

Even now. 20hours ago someone made again a new Video how much he loves the Game. Even myself wants to do that Video and I am working on it rn haha This just shows how this Game is actually a Masterpiece. I just keep watching thsese Videos. Seeing the perspective of other people. What makes hollow knight so good for me? I would say it is perfect in every aspect. With the exception of the beginning. Its unwelcoming. I also would want to play Outer Wilds for the first Time again. This Game is about Knowledge. So every Spoiler destroys everything. And its also magical as Hollow Knight

I think the beginning is good - it shows how unwelcoming hollow knight will be. I love that HK's community doesn't die - even all these years later people like myself and everyone that watched are making content or interested in it :)

@@asleepycatt Yes your right! But its not a smart decision cause 30% of the playerbase doesnt even have the Achievment for beating False Knight. People just give up cause its, gray, sad, you easy get lost. It may be a Test for the Players. But not a smart decision cause so many players doesnt even know how good this game is. They just say, "inngh it wasnt appealing to me."

While there are lots of things I really liked about Hollow Knight, I think the most important thing they did well was the pacing. My playthrough took me a solid year to complete, and I was stuck at various parts of the game for different reasons. Sometimes I couldn't make it past a boss fight (the worst one for me was the Watcher Knight fight, I didn't have the shade cloak and I didn't understand how good spells like Descending Dark could be so I struggled more than I could have) or I just wanted a break from the game. But every time I thought I would put the game down and move on, something cool would happen. I'd find a cool new area, or come across a movement item and suddenly the whole game felt completely new and alive again. This pacing was done so well that by the time I fought the Radiance, I felt like the game had taken me on a great journey, and that I had grown as a player and a person. I think that is what was so magical about Hollow Knight, and what I find missing from many other games in the genre. The closest I've come to that feeling has been my experience playing Elden Ring, which is a masterpiece in its own right.

Exactly - I should've talked more about the pacing more in the video because I think it makes hollow knight what it is :) I will try Elden Ring on stream one day, it's in my plans for sure!

There’s a joy in exploration and discovery. Games like FTL or Dark Souls 1 that are also punishing, reward you for your success and discovery.

outer wilds is not only the best video game off all time, but is THE DEFINITION of a game that can only be experienced once. there is no upgrades or combat, the only thing determining if you can finish it, is what you learned, so after you know how to end the game, you literally can't replay it anymore HIGLY RECOMMEND
