Sharpe's Sword, Enemy and Honour would also be good ones. Sharpe's Siege, because of his encounters with Wigram, Maquerre and Killick, Revenge because of Jane and Rossendale stealing his money and Ducos framing him for the theft of Napoleon's treasure and his alliance with Calvet. And then there's Waterloo. The point being it's impossible to pick just one story.

i think the reason he dies so much is that.. in more recent movies he comes across as very wise and regal.. game of thrones for instance. that regal bearing makes his death more impactful and adds more emotion to the plot. of course i wouldn't be surprised if it's kind of an inside joke by now among filmmakers. i know if i made a film and a character had to die halfway through, i'd love having sean bean play him. the fact that he is a pretty damn good actor doesn't hurt at all

I started reading a novel series called the Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell. I found out that Sean Bean had starred in a tv show based on the books several decades ago. I then had to check if the character died at any point in the books. If Sean Bean played the character, be prepared.

Actually it occurred to me why Sean Bean characters getting killed off never gets old - because when you look at him, he looks tough and indestructible, like you expect him to come out of every fight, every battle victorious, until he doesn't. And he does not look like the guy whose death you'd mourn (unless it's Ned Stark). So until someone raises the issue of Sean Bean always getting killed off, you don't notice it.
