Same here - have channel, did a custom order - did some content on it. Then, truck got cancelled due to parts or drastically delayed. I went with an order dealer already had in which arrived today! So, to the guy who had an issue, pound sand lol.

I am really surprised that you didn’t have more people telling you how disappointed they were in your decision. Some people feel they have the right to tell people that have a KZbin channel what to do and how or when they should do it. I am so glad you basically in a very polite way told him to go elsewhere and that he won’t be missed at least this is how I took it. Believe me had it been myself I wouldn’t have been so polite after all your making the decision simply because it’s yours to make and not some Tom Dick or Harry on KZbin to make. I live next to the GM plant that produces the Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave. They parked a large amount of them in a parking lot they rented from Michigan State University waiting for microchips and parts, and I know for a fact they didn't move them at all during that time. So you're probably correct in assuming the truck you ordered was never touched.

I too custom ordered a PowerBoost Platinum 4x4, while on order my Salesman changed dealerships to a new state of the art Ford store. (I forfeit my order at no charge) then special ordered this time a Limited trim level PowerBoast 4x4, at the new dealership it took 11 week to come in arrived at the dealer on July 23rd at 10am. The remarkable number is my pre-trade was $3,034.21 more than 4 trim levels below loaded with many options. Do the math buying a F-150 it pays to get the upper trim level you desire with almost no extra options and at trade it will be worth more,. Options on my Limited were 4X4, PowerBoost and Max recline seats. The PowerBoost Option in this trim level is only $1900 and comes standard with the 7.2Kw generator. Plus it has almost ever feature Ford has to offer and more.

I have been wanting to get my first truck for about a year now and since I have a ford edge and REALLY like my dealership (great people), I was going to go with an F150 Lariat. Long story short I figured I could wait and get a new truck dirt cheap because they need to unload these trucks that are just sitting waiting for chips. Those couple points you made in the beginning are LEGIT points that I never even thought of. After doing more research, I am currently pursuing a GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. I found your channel by doing tonneau cover research and based on your (and others) review, I'm going with the BAK X4s (great review). Also looking into the AMP power step. All that being said, I never leave comments like this, because frankly, I don't think most people care about KZbin comments. This is more for you (a positive to balance the hater in the beginning), and for people that truly do research on this stuff. Trucks nowadays are so expensive and come with so many various options and packages that I want to do as much research as I can before spending this kind of money. Just picked up an XLT last week in Oxford White Sport 4x4 5.0… loving the V8. Has the tow tech package, 360 camera package, copilot assist 2.0, 36 gallon fuel tank and a rear locker. The only thing I had to sacrifice on was the fx4 package. I would have walked away from chrome personally, but it does look really nice on your truck… The technology jump coming from my 2018 Colorado ZR2 (and 2018 Tundra before that) is absolutely insane. And the XLT is better than the previous gen lariat by a wide margin. Enjoying the content! Keep it up!

We did the same thing, gave up on order that was built 3/1, sitting 120+ days in a lot waiting for a chip. Found an incoming unclaimed nicer truck (king ranch) that we are totally happy with now! It's not like an F150 is that "custom" ever - it's the most common best selling vehicle in the entire country. Correct on what the manual says, PLUS being a powerboost hybrid, you know that lithium ion battery gets highly impacted when fully drained - it is a big no no in battery land.

Dan: My truck was just delivered to the dealer today. 2021 Limited. Ordered 3-4 blend 7-08 built. 07-14 delivered 7-29. I believe I got lucky with the chips arriving at Ford and when they built it. All of your reasons are completely and 100% valid. You can still get content, as you have done. I went with a Platinum, and now can’t do without features that I thought were… unnecessary. As far as the wrap on the chrome (platinum has an odd chrome/paint matched mix), at least it would be protected from chips a bit. I have full front clear on my hood and fenders and headlights. Color matched (silver) LineX Bed liner too…. Anyway, sweet rig, and all the good new tech, way of the future…. Oh, power running boards, can’t go back…. Thanks for the video!

I needed a truck last summer and got a great deal on a 2020 F-150 off the lot. All the options I needed: XLT, 4x4, V8, tow package, 6.5' bed. I didn't care about the paint.

cool video. this helped me allot. i also ordered almost the same truck. it started production on aug 6th. it has sat for almost a month waiting for a "chip". i have been told i get it FINALLY next week. this process has been a super pain in the ass. The Powerboost alone should be able to provide content. I got a 2021 Lariat with the 5.0 off the lot and it's what I wanted in a truck. Power seats and power folding mirrors were what I really wanted, and got. My bonus is the heated/cooled seats, but in New Mexico, I don't need a heated steering wheel, and growing up in North Texas, sun/moon roofs make me nervous with hail storms, so I've never had one. I don't have the interior work surface, but I don't need it. All in all, people should just get what they want, like you did. As long as you're happy with what you drive, that's all that really matters.

I know this is an old video, over a year, and no didn't read all the comments! From formally working at a ford dealer as a mechanic one of our tasks was prepping new vehicles for sale. I have seen the gambit where rangers where labeled as Mazda (up, long time ago in the b series and rangers where the same), no fluids (diffs mainly), miss match tires, etc. Hence why we do a final inspection. That all said, the "drive train unites" (engine and trans assembly) are broken in when tested on dynos. Then fluids are changed but the fluids aren't your typical fluids but break in fluids with additives for the seals etc. that is why your first oil change is generally much sooner then any other. Rarely did I see a vehicle received for stock sold with in 6 months of the production date and some cases closer to a year. Once a vehicle hits a certain date they usually will pick the vehicle up and take it to another dealer far away that data shows might be able to sell it faster. Side note, if they realize a color or package doesn't sell, those will sit on the same lot and even highly discounted. Many of the unsold overstock either get sold to large companies at a discount (at cost in man cases) or government type use. That is why on some of the government auctions you'll see mainly base models but also a small percentage up random upgraded models all the way to high end trims. Point is, the worry about fluids and battery quality is mainly what the warranty is for also, but with many of the new gasket and seal technology and quality, worrying about fluids and leaks is irrelevant and old school thinking. The old school 350 create motor from GM (use to be in the 2k range) I would some in from Summit that where over a year old and almost never an issue. Those are stored with no oil other then assembly lube and they where spun over for checks (not run, just spun).

Now granted, I'm an older guy (66) and a huge fan of your channel, but I just can't get over what a nice pickup truck costs these days. (And I'm sure you could spend a lot more if you wanted to.) As I've stated before I special ordered a truck just like you and I ordered mine before you did and to this day it still hasn't shown up and bailed on it for a lot truck and drove a significant amount of distance to get it and I have zero regrets. I moved from NJ to FL this month and needed a truck to help assist me with moving. Ford failed me like they did you with meeting deadlines and honestly if Toyota came out with their 2022 Tundra sooner I probably would've not purchased another Ford product ever but wasn't going to drop $50k+ on an outdated Tundra just to get a truck.. I have the 21 xlt fx4 with tow package. My xlt has the lariat trim package. Rapid Red with the 3.7l ecoboost. I traded in my 15 tacoma. This truck is by far the best truck I have ever laid my hands on. You will find you will be learning new things about your truck months down the road. Its like driving the space shuttle. Also your subscribers need to understand the 21s are a complete re design from the ground up. Mine came in at just over 63,000. Leased. If the f150 doesn't have anything better buy the time the lease is over im buying out the lease. This is how fantastic this truck is. Thats saying something! Leased truck with 10 miles on it now has just over 3,000. The moon roof is a acquired taste for most But nice nonetheless. Sadly the chip shortage is with us i would say for quite some time in the future across ALL manufacturers that require chips.

Based off my knowledge these trucks are all stored properly and will not have any problems what so ever when they get their chips. For example we just put a new engine in my dads 2001 deisel a year ago and the engine sat for 6 months before we got it and for 1 more month before we were able to put it in. It now has 30,000 miles with zero problems, had the oil analyzed after the first couple oil changes and nothing to be concerned with.

I highly recommend tinting your sunroof. I leave my sunshade open almost all the time now and it doesn't feel too bright in there at all. Before, I felt like I needed sunglasses just to sit in the truck.

Im not sure what exactly you are comparing wheels to wheels but by that same measure I could also buy a 1967 Buick Wildcat, 2007 International BE 30 Passenger School Bus, 2006 Ford Expedition, and 46 other old beat up $1,500 vehicles off craigslist that would require a junk yard to store them, and endless wrenching to keep them running. If you are trying to compare a modern F-150 hybrid with level 2 self driving capability and OTA updates to a 1971 VW bus, then yes you are living under a rock lol

I ordered an 2021 F150 in March 5 and started tracking it on the ford web site with the VIN and order number. It was supposedly built in April and was to be delivered on or about May 11. That date came an went then the website was finally updating showing a delivery date of Oct 31. Then the date got changed to August 3, coincidentally shortly after it was in the news that Ford found a supply of chips. My truck is pretty much the same as being described in this video, except I ordered the sports package, not chrome. Who wouldn't bail on a truck that has been parked banking in the sun for months. The real take home story is we better start making more in America and not depending on cheap foreign labor and the shortages that occur with an overly complex supply chain. I bailed on mine and will reorder once the chip issue gets better.

amazing advice. I'm looking at buying one of these exact same builds next year. Any advice for NOT buying one of the trucks that was sitting on the lots for months at a time once they are finally released to dealers?

I ordered a fully optioned '21 Limited Powerboost 4x4 on 1/28/21. Everything got pushed out far, 10/31/21. I found another one at another dealer and purchased it. Got $7500 off MSRP in March '21. A week ago my custom ordered truck cam in. Took a look at it. I had a few cosmetic issues with mine. Kinda wished I had waited. Oh well.

I share your concern with these trucks not being cared for while in storage. To me, one of the biggest concerns is environmental effects on the paint, say from bird droppings that do not get cleaned off and etch the clearcoat. However, long storage times are not uncommon in the auto industry, even before the current chip/component shortages. In fact, it's very common with cars produced in Europe and shipped to the US. There have been other scenarios where certain models are produced to build up inventory for a launch, and they may sit for months on a lot before shipping out. There have been scenarios where vehicles sit at a port until recalls are taken care of. There are usual inventory practices where a manufacturer sits on 100+ days of inventory for strategic purposes. And so on. None of it is ideal, but it's been this way for decades.

Good decision. I have many unfinished 150’s on my lot waiting for chip/modules and who knows how long that will be.

Awesome truck! I wanted to order mine but got the dealership to get me a 2021 that I wanted from another dealer about 100 miles away. Only thing I gave up that I wanted was the moonroof. I actually wanted it. I only got 3k off MRSP. My purchase was in April. Hope the truck treats you well!

Bingo! That's exactly what I am worried about. All thoseF150 trucks sitting for months is not a good thing. Those trucks could have issues down the road and it will probably be after warranty.

I’m not a big chrome guy, I like it but it is very easy to overdo it. That truck looks very nice as is, you could wrap the bumpers anyway and it look like a Platinum.

Yeah, I bought an unsold 2020 Ford Escape S AWD, built in November 2020, in May 2021. It was stored in the dealer's storage, and I can't say that they did any start-up on it or the other 8 that they had there as well. Yeah, I bought it with $8K off, but since it sat for 7 months, I'll have to keep an eye on things. I definitely understand your reasoning.

Keep the seal around the panoramic moon roof greased with silicone grease every month or so and it will never give you any problems.

I realize I'm late to the party here but you are correct about the moon roof. My 2015 Lariat High package twin panel sun/moonroof ... Which I barely ever used... broke at the opening/closing mechanism screw drive to bracket connection... And it's a $4000.00 repair bill. I about crapped a brick. $1500 parts and the rest labor. Looks like I will NOT be using my sun/moonroof again any time soon.
