Also, I want to say this. I grew up thinking I was pretty, but around the age of 22 due to medications and hormones, I gained weight, started getting hormonal acne, and developed chronic back pain. All of this made me feel less beautiful. I felt like I needed to cover myself up with black oversized layers of clothing and tons of make up. Then I realized through a lot of reflection that (1) people are not really concerned about me, they are too busy worrying about themselves (2) I shouldn't have to be self conscious about how my body takes space in this world and (3) I am unique and beautiful and the people who I care about have always seen that. That being said, you are gorgeous! With and without makeup! You are a natural goddess :) And I'm surprised, as a model, that you never saw yourself as beautiful. Goes to show how messed up society is in how they treat women... I recently started following some new youtubers who discuss body positivity, and that really changed my view on how I see myself. I actually have a rainbow butterfly tattoo on my ankle so it was really cool to hear you echo some of the same thoughts and feelings I have towards the symbol. For me, it is a tattoo that represents my acceptance of myself and coming into my own. It is about Pride and beauty and love. To be considered a butterfly is, to me, an honor.

Please ignore them. I know you don't want to offend people, but no one can truly be offended over being called a butterfly. If they claim to be, they are most likely offended at the world in general, or feel a need for control and/or attention. If you give them that attention/control, they will keep commenting. Don't let them make you feel bad over something so small. If someone is truly upset over being called a butterfly, then they definitely have some other issues going on, and calling them by a different name is certainly not going to fix it.

Hi Cassandra, thank you for elaborating on the meaning that the butterfly has for you. It sounds like a very empowering and uplifting message and it’s clear that you have put a lot of thought into it. I’m actually afraid of butterflies but I can still get behind your message lol. I think some people may find it a triggering word because a lot of eating disorder sites and propaganda use butterflies, especially with regard to anorexia. It’s pretty sad, but if it’s something you’re curious about, I’m sure there is some information about how the image is used in that community.

you are the first beauty guru I ever watched on youtube, I was probably 11 or 12. I had awful acne, knew nothing about makeup or skin care, and truly hated myself. I thought there was nothing I could do to change it, just wash my face before bed. Over the years watching you, I learned soo much. My skin science changed so much! I found out, through many tests and trials, that my acne was hormonal and birth control clears me up, after you talked about cystic and hormonal acne. I genuinely believe I would still be in the dark about much of it now if I hadn't found your channel. THAT is why I am proud to be a butterfly, age 19. I didn't become beautiful, I grew as a person and learned how to take care of myself, and other people view me differently because of it. Let them.

I call my best friend a beautiful butterfly all the time and he thought it was weird at first but then realized I was literally calling him the most beautiful thing I could think of. the only reason I could think someone wouldn't like being called a butterfly is they feel it's facetious, or maybe they haven't been watching you for years and don't understand where that name is coming from. Whatever the case, I don't think you should change it. That is how you authentically feel about your fanbase and it is beautiful. Some people just dont like beautiful things. So be it.

So I have an interesting take on this. I am 1 in 2000 (survival at birth) of a genetic condition called Turner Syndrome. This condition has, as you can imagine, a number of challenges...unique to each individual. Can you guess what our symbol of our society (TSSUS) is? Yep, the butterfly. That said, we also have members that don't really see the butterfly as an accurate representative of us. Ah well to each his or her own I say. Thanks for posting. Have a great day!

Hi :) I am very afraid of butterflies and I think they are hideous up close. But I still don't mind you calling us that because they are beautiful for YOU and because I understand the metaphor. To be honest butterflies are amazing from the biology perspective and some of them are freaking good fliers and others have pretty risky ways of maturing, I respect that and I admire that. I don't even know why I am afraid of them on such a deep level. I am not overjoyed they are standard "beauty icon" because that means they are everywhere. But as with many other things butterfly image in this case is a token, it's a shell for an idea and I am not going to hate you for spreading good idea in a shell I am not comfortable with. And I think no one should.
