Have a Chapin, and I can't live without a battery operated pump sprayer. But they have another design flaw in them...battery located at the very bottom of the unit! I overfilled mine and of course the water runs across and over the battery, you go to recharge the battery and get an error message telling you the battery is no good. So all it takes is one or two drops of water to get inside the battery housing (not sealed, but could have been) and you think your battery is shorted out. Well open it up (you will see all the moisture), let it air dry for about three days, put it back together and presto, it takes a charge. Bad R&D on Chapin part. Now I make sure I remove battery before I remove top.

Yeah, purchased their competitors backpack sprayer (the orange one) and it was broken right out of the box. I don't expect to drop a lot of money to play troubleshooter immediately. The trouble with the product was a poor fuse housing. Wasted a whole weekend stripping the item down - I don;t expect to do that with a $200+ supposedly commercial model. In addition it leaked prosuelt even with the plumbers tape they provided. Steer clear. Went and purchased the old fashioned manual backpack sprayer from Chapin

I had pump issues with my Chapin 12 gallon push sprayer that cost me over $300. I had 2 failed units, the first of which I paid to ship back. When I had the 2nd one fail, I told them that I absolutely wasn't going to pay to ship it back. They sent me a pre-paid label to ship it back, and I got a new unit. 2 weeks later, the pump failed, then the battery went out. Insist they pay for a shipping label so you can get a replacement unit. I think that the Customer Service at Chapin is great, because they have to deal with a lot of QA problems, and they've handled my problems. But I just want my stuff to work... Sprayers Plus has had good reviews on their products. I'm sure Pete wouldn't carry it if they sucked.

Just like my leak. Got a leaking battery powered backpack Chapin sprayer sitting in my storage unit to use as 'parts'. Fortunately for me, they sent a replacement without me having to send the original one back. But mine leaks (as best I can see) exactly like his. Obviously from the numerous reports and complaints, a manufacturing defect that is well-known. (Another issue - and this may be common; I'm a limited use person): I need a battery backpack sprayer really only once a year. But I *really* need it then. I used my replacement Chapin for the first year; then cleaned it really, really well, dried it &.stored in controlled environment. Went to use it 2nd year - sound like pump running, but no spray. Called Chapin help. He said if hadn't been used in a year - might take 20 minutes or so. I was afraid to run it dry that long, but did so. Sure enough - in 20 minutes it was spraying. Now, for 3rd year; same thing happened again: 20 minutes to 'prime' - then worked fine. Normal? Wear & tear?

The pump didn’t turn off because it’s not reaching the proper pressure (because it has a leak). Unfortunately, there’s no way to know what’s causing the leak without seeing it first hand. It could have been a manufacturing problem and it could have been mishandling/improper storage. I’ve also got a sprayers plus backpack sprayer and love it.

Right away I noticed that I couldn't stop the lid from leaking herbicide, fertilizer or whatever I was attempting to apply to my lawn down my back. No matter how loose or tight I applied the lid it leaks and makes a huge mess, especially with marker dye in it. The only chance of little mess is to only mix 2gals in it and try to mix it up without it splashing up to the lid. Other than pouring herbicide down my back everything else works well. I've emailed Chapin with no response. Smh... Any good suggestions on different brands? Any experience with the Milwaukee Switch tank?

Good enough for me. If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that if a product is getting bad reviews, there's a reason for it and that reason is most likely negligence on the part of the manufacturer. They do too much to keep costs down (and profits UP) and the result is that their products are sketchy. They of course deny it all the way to the bank, but the fact remains that good products get good reviews for the opposite reason: because the manufacturer put a priority on quality. If I hear a bad review, I just move on. I'm so tired of hearing well-rehearsed excuses and apologies from irresponsible companies that I just don't care anymore (because THEY clearly don't care). If I don't get EXACTLY what I paid for (quality product that performs the way it's hyped to), I'll never buy another thing from them and in most cases, won't even complain to them, try to get a refund, repair or anything else because I know the drill. I know they'll apologize, often profusely; segue immediately into one or more excuses, and move right into their insincere promises of what they can do for me to remedy the situation, which will almost certainly include wasting even MORE of my time, testing MORE of my patience and costing me even MORE money. I have NO sympathy for companies that have ethical issues and most of them do. Sprayers Plus is probably well aware of customers like me and their shoddy competition that CREATES (ex) customers like me and they were proactive about sending you a free sprayer knowing you would be likely to mention it on your channel and reach frustrated customers like me who are in the market for a QUALITY product. And it worked. That's smart marketing. I'll be buying a Sprayers Plus product. Thanks for your endorsement. Your lawn is hands-down awesome and that's the result of research, learning, experience, knowledge, wisdom and using the right tool/s for the job. I was looking at the Chapin before I saw this video. Thanks.

I got one of these early 2018 used it the summer of 18 and when I got it out for 2019 the pump ran continually and would not spray after talking with chapin and doing their recommended trouble shooting which included letting it sit for 24 hours with water in it to prime the pump. I got a rma to send it back It cost me 38 bucks to send it back and I got another one on may 2019 less than a year ago.... that one worked fine the rest of the summer about 6 uses then i cleaned it and stored it... Yesterday 2-17-20 It sprayed about 3 gallons and then the pump lost prime, meaning the pump would not shut off when handle closed. I just sent them an e-mail and we will see what they will do about it this time.

Yeah I fixed it last week. Carb clean and new spark plug and it's good to go. :)

Wow. I guess I've been one of the lucky ones. I purchased my Chapin in the November 2017 (warranty about to end) and have not experience any problems with my sprayer to date and I've been using it quite a bit (N Ext products, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides). The only warranty issue I've had was a dead battery and they immediately sent me a new with no proof of purchase. There are times when it gets air in the line because I accidentally run it empty, but that's easily solved by unscrewing the wand and getting the air out. If it were me, I probably wouldn't send it back and try to figure out the problem because shipping is probably too cost prohibitive. If it were to break, I'd look to a more professional sprayer since I'm really into more spraying now. The Lawn Ginger did a video on the exact same issue and was able to find and fix the problem (see below). If you still have it and have not already discovered the problem, check out his video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHvWY32qiJyhpdk

I have two sprayer plus sprayers and a couple things I don't like about them are 1) that the pump continuously runs instead of shutting off when you let go of the trigger. And 2) they seem to leak from the tip more (than an average sprayer) after you have sprayed something 😔

I'll watch out for that this next season

You need to lubricate part number K3010 www.sprayers-plus.com/wp-content/uploads/105EX.pdf

Anyone who has one make sure you clean your filters screens regularly. Mine was surging until i discovered it had a filter in the wand handle which unscrews. No more surging in 3 years of use. Good luck!

Hope I don’t have the same experience as you. So far so good though but we’ll see. Surprised they wouldn’t do a recall.

Try the Ryobi backpack sprayer. Mines nice so far.

If your sprayer leaks that will prevent it from turning off automatically. Your primary problem is the leak, the fact that it now doesn't stop spraying when you release the trigger is a by-product of that leak.

If the black clamp ring isn't in right spot it will leak around the gasket. Make sure its line up with the notch on the container. Should fix it

It's leaking directly out of the pump

Thanks, Ryan. Been looking for a backpack sprayer for the N-ExT products. I've heard a few other negative reviews too.

So far the sprayers plus one has been good but I'll test more this year.

Ryan, How has your Sprayers Plus sprayer held up since then? I never heard of it until I watched this video. I might check it out.

I asked Ginja about his problem with them leaking, and he said it’s a simple tightening of something inside the tank
@ryanknorrlawncare6 жыл бұрын
I'll have to check that out.

Ryan Knorr Lawn Care I guess just tighten every connection inside the tank and see what happens!

Any company worth its salt should WANT customers to return faulty products to them (free of charge). Why? That is a company's opportunity to root cause issues with their product and (hopefully) resolve them by updating their product (i.e. Gen 2 product) or integrate the solution into a new product. You cant resolve a problem if you turn a blind eye to it, and in the end the company will suffer from decreased sales and a lower perception of quality. Word of mouth (and Amazon/Google reviews) are powerful. Long story short, its going to cost Chapin more than the $10 they are trying to save in shipping costs. I for one will not be buying any of their products (but I was going to). Appreciate the update Ryan!

Very timely vid dude. I’ve been researching to determine which battery powered sprayer to invest in. However Chapin was not on my list due to negative Amazon feedback. Wanting to stay under $200 I’m trying to decide between My 4 Sons, Field King and Sprayers Plus. M4 has hundreds of great reviews on Amazon but I don’t know how I feel about the lead acid battery and extra weight. The Field King has only 11 reviews but most are positive and the design looks nice, their pump sprayers have hundreds of great reviews though. With Sprayers Plus I cant find many reviews on it other than Pete’s paid promotion and some people in comments here saying they’re happy with theirs. Still have a couple months before I’ll need to make a decision to be ready to drop that PreM I suppose.

I've heard good things about the m4sons and I used sprayers plus for the last part of the 2018 season and it worked great. If you do go with Sprayers Plus I have a free shipping code in the description but I believe it's right over $200
