On the other hand, if you like your current physique, there is no reason to bulk up when regarding purely looks.

Honest? Muscle growing process has been proved to happen when you are on a caloric surplus, otherwise you wont grow and you could also lose muscle. Bulking Is not eating like a swine, if you are on a caloric surplus, even if its slightly, its considered bulking. Thats It, call It what you want, but if you build musle while staying lean, thats only posible whith steroids. And i'm not claiming this guy Is on It, I honestly dont care, but the title itself its missleading to new lifters and I dont think the word honest could fit

If you bulk properly, you will gain more muscle faster, but there is nothing wrong with staying lean and building up slower. Everyone has different genetics and priorities in life. Pick what works for you and do your best under the circumstances. Compare yourself to you as you progress and enjoy the process. Have fun achieving personal goals.

for skinny people that have been like that all our lives it's very tiring to bulk up. I've always have had issues with it. Most I can do is hover around maintenance which is enough to build muscle and burn fat at least for me. I used to have a small belly and now it's flat, and my arm is 4 times the volume it used to be, in 1 year. There is no need to go faster I would say...

I think all the individuals you mentioned here advocate for the importance of proper bulk and cut cycles. If you maintain at 61kg all year round. You will always be 60 something kg. However, it is possible to reach 70 kg lean at 5 feet 6 if you spend a few years to bulk and cut. Trust me every 2-3 kg lean muscle looks hugely different on his frame.

@@bigcheese0942 Staying committed to a diet is a mental thing. Often it has also something to do with how people approach diets. I'm in my 16th week of my summer cut this year and went from ~155lbs 18-20% BF to now 130lbs ~10-12% BF without encountering cravings, feeling like ass etc. I increased my strenght in the major lifts (i am a powerlifter at heart but do a lot of bodybuilding exercises, i'm kinda a hybrid athlete if you wanna say so) by about 25-35% while losing around 15-20% Bodymass. I started taking diets more seriously when I moved out from my mums. I had the same issues you had before. She'd always bring sweets randomly and I just couldn't say no. Since I now live in a dorm near my universitys campus and I buy groceries myself now, it just started working on it's own basically.

I am also in the smaller frame side.. but I have never felt better physically and I can see that I can keep making improvements, this is along side just me trying to main gain but not tracking my calories, I am able to eat what I want and eat however much I want and still look lean!!. I had thought about bulking.. but honestly I'm just too lazy to do all that tracking.

I really like this video, and I agree with almost everything you're saying-you've got a great approach to health, fitness, and muscle growth. But I think what you've been doing is bulking. If you're gaining weight to support muscle growth (going from 115-135), that's what bulking is. You did it leanly, so a lean bulk. You did it slowly, so a slow bulk. You did it intuitively, so an intuitive bulk. Accidental, so an accidental bulk. But I don't know why you'd call it anything other than a bulk.

I was in the same situation two years ago. I was also 17, and i weighed 57kg. Then over a period of 1.5 years i bulked up to 77kg (in hindsight it was a little aggressive), and it was probably one on the best decisions i've ever made. Tyler actually makes totally valid points in this video, but keep in mind that you are not him. You don't have the same body, you don't have the same genetics, you don't have the same life goals. He mentions that he did track and field, and if he gained excess weight his performance in the sport would get worse, that's why he chose not to bulk. He saw himself as a track and field runner first, a bodybuilder second. What he's basically saying is that bulking isn't worth if for the average gym goer, because it's very time consuming and you'll very likely still see noticeable progress without it, and i mostly agree with that. But keep in mind that you're probably not trying to be the average gym goer. You're fkn 17, you don't have a fulltime job, you don't have children to take care of, you probably have alot of spare time and energy. You can use that time and energy to dial in your nutrition. By doing that you will speed up your progress in bodybuilding by probably like 4 times. His method of main-gaining is totally valid. But if you have the extra time and energy, then you can use it to perfect your nutrition and that will intern speed up your progress substantially. I would definitely advise you to track your calories and to eat in a surplus. When it comes to bodybuilding Training and nutrition go hand in hand.

You're good at your point in life. I do not know you age but you look pretty young. Your test levels are still going to be in the upper range. I also always thought myself as a lean person all throughout my 20s. When you start hitting 30 that changed although I'm still fairly lean. What I'm saying is don't expect it to be like this the rest of your life. Your test will drop and your metabolism changes. Keep doing what you're doing now as long as you're still gaining muscle. You're going to have to change what you're doing over time however. Not only that, but many people here are saying they've never bulked and that's fine however you are actually eating in a surplus if you're gaining muscle. So it depends what you see as being a bulk. Is a slight surplus considered a bulk? Then you actually are bulking.

Accepting your body type and metabolism, and making healthy adjustments accordingly, is the best way to achieve a healthy and aesthetically pleasing body that suits your natural physique. If you gain weight easily, avoid bulking; instead, eat a balanced diet, exercise more, and embrace your naturally stockier build. You might carry a bit more fat than others, and that’s okay. On the other hand, if you're naturally lean, adapt your approach accordingly. It’s all about understanding and accepting yourself, but with health in mind, in my opinion.

problem with maingaining is that, you need to be precise. otherwise, it's just bulking. maybe YOU can do it, but it's very rare for people who aren't genetically lean to be able to "maingain" without tracking macro. most people will end up cutting or bulking because even a difference of 300-400 KCal is already cutting/bulking, but mostly bulking, because it's easier to notice in your satiety if you eat less calorie than if you eat more, so it means you'll notice it more if you are on an unintentional deficit than if you are on an unintentional surplus. and if you don't track macros? it's very easy to even surpass that and end up on an even "dirtier" bulking. edit: of course, if you are already at your goal physique, then what's the point of cutting and bulking. but that's also not maingaining, it's just maintaining.

I agree and I like that ur showing this as not something you need, but that's better depending on your preferences, like for example, I like being a little lean, like some visible abs, but in the end I prefer looking bulky and huge, aesthetics are like not as important to me as mass

so you stay naturally lean at 10% bodyfat all year round and yet, you you easily gain muscles? Not just muscles, but rather huge proportionate muscles?... Man! You were born to look great! Congrats! And thanks for this tip! I too am doing main-bulking without realising it! lol And already very happy with the results 😁

Guys like me and you have the metabolism where we are essentially “bulking” all the damn time. My metabolism is RAVENOUS. I’m 46 and never once had to cut weight for Olympic weightlifting. (PR c&j was 265 weighing 118 lbs, 280 @ 124lbs, with a snatch around 215 to 225. Ive tried bulking. It doesn’t do anything but make me hungrier. If you never bulk, and just keep doing what you’re doing, your muscle density will be off the charts when you hit 40. I know your pain, “skinny” king. I have the exact same body you do, plus 4 inches of height, and about 10 lbs. We have a metabolism that is second to none. At age 46 I’m not very big, but am ripped to shreds. And weighing 140 lbs but working out with the heavyweight bodybuilders and powerlifters gives me enough confidence to balance any missing aesthetics. When your bench press is triple your own body weight, you tend to worry less about how you look in the mirror.

I'm 5'-6" and 165lbs. Currently lean not not bear mode anymore. Getting to 155lbs has been incredibly tough without dropping calories to like 1600 a day. I started at 230lbs and 2100 cal.

@mrbobo86 yeah, I recently recalculated to about 1500 calories a day. It's kinda rough but ive already laid the groundwork to get here from 250lbs. As long as I keep my dinners light and to focus on protein, I can do it.

Its completely normal to be 150-170 for 5’6 peepz im 160 rn but usually 170 dont let this dude think you have to be light weight. He is is asian and most asians have small bone structure. And shorter guys muscles look bigger than they actually are due to bone structure and proportions (measurements dont lie). And no im not overweight i run aswell and pretty decent runner sub 45” 10k.

@saitama3795 sigh if you are going by bmi then yes you are correct but keep in mind bmi is for lay people not people that have muscle. Marines standards for the heaviest you can be at 5”6 is 170 so by your point there are ton of obese marines. Nope because government knows marines are not lay people and use a different weight to height standard

Honestly if I had your physique I would not bulk. You have my dream physique because while it could be a larger physique, being that big can be taxing in some ways like *having* to eat a certain ammount to maintain which would feel like im force feeding myself etc.

The speaker, who is 5'6" and 134-135 lbs, discusses his approach to fitness, focusing on why he has never bulked and likely won't in the future. He attributes his lean physique to genetics, including a small bone structure and low body fat percentage (around 10-12% year-round). He explains that his naturally lean body makes him look more muscular than he actually is. He outlines three reasons for not bulking: Preference for Staying Lean: He values being lean and believes that gaining body fat through bulking would detract from his aesthetic goals. Ability to Progress Without Bulking: He has made significant progress in building muscle without intentionally bulking, suggesting that it's possible to gain muscle while maintaining a lean physique. Dislike for the Bulking Lifestyle: He finds the bulking and cutting cycle mentally taxing and prefers a simpler approach, focusing on maintaining his current body composition through intuitive eating and progressive overload in his workouts. The speaker also addresses the mental challenges associated with bulking, such as body dysmorphia and the pressure to track every detail meticulously. He advises against bulking for those with other life priorities and suggests that while bulking might lead to faster muscle gains, it often isn't worth the additional mental and physical effort for most people. He concludes by encouraging viewers to consider their personal goals and lifestyles when deciding whether to bulk, and to be mindful of the potential downsides.

Not just all that, but longevity. By staying lean (and small, if I may say that) you're not going through a lot of food on a daily basis so your digestive system doesn't work overtime, your muscles don't pull too much weight, your heart isn't straining a lot, on top of not having to stress about every calorie. Happy life.

I'm pretty much the exact same build as you with slightly less muscle mass. I've recently upped my food intake due to having hit a plateau - it's definitely helping me to pack on a bit more mass, but it is absolutely not a diet I'd want to sustain long term and probaly not one that I'll be repeating any time soon. Lean build for the win!

Wow, I really didn't expect you to be that light. I'm shorter and my body fat is definitely higher, But same Waist size at 165-170 Lbs and also 2-3 inches shorter. I'm currently losing weight from "Bulking" (which was really just trying to gain weight as I was around 120 Lbs 3 years ago). and changing my diet up to try and cut my body fat. I agree with you though I don't think Bulking is for me, and I'm not enjoying having to change things so much. Just gotta focus on the mindset for working out.

godlike genetics with fast metabolism being born skinny lean, athletic, actually helped him unconsciously lean bulk, and with him being asian, his mom probably cooks a pretty healthy meal for him everyday. people just underestimate how time consuming gaining muscle is without gaining fat. sure u can gain it fast, but there is a fine line between dirty bulk and lean bulk. Tyler is a perfect example of a perfect lean bulk

I’m also 5.5 (5.6 on good days) at 90lbs. Obviously I need to gain size and weight. Lean bulk would be my intention. But all of this to say that your physique is pretty much a desirable goal for most of us and you’re definitely not wrong on your approach. This is what has made you more productive, more mentally and physically healthy without compromising too much of your life

I have reached lately (like 1 year before) to the same conclusion but still just got fat again, i have similiar physics as you (height and weight just not that trained, I mainly workout calisthenics) but now I cutted 11 lbs to 135 +/- and found out your channel which is game changer and I choose to stay lean full year so this summer I wanna cut little more and do low surplus and maintain the weight. Ty for the videos and cheers 👌😎

I am 5'7". maybe closer to 5'8". When i was very lean as a HS senior for wrestling, I would make 160 lbs for my weight class and I would weigh like 175 when i didnt have to make it and I was lean. My bones are thick and by shoulders are broad, big legs, thicker waist even with low body fat. Now I am over 200 lbs at that weight and not (too) fat. My ideal weight would probably be between 178 and 180-something. Just different builds, frame, bone density.
