I left Facebook today. All it does is make people compete for attention. My family has glazed over my existence and my relatives are using Facebook as an excuse to say they are actually involved in my life which couldn’t be farther from the truth. They all ignore me, and they think having me as a friend in Facebook is enough. I’m done with it. It’s not the same as actually being in someone’s life!
@susanp71945 жыл бұрын
Me too; I posted some things, and if someone, a cousin, or a so called friend can't even press a" like" on your posts sometimes.. what is the point... they are not friends in my opinion.. so I deleted people recently... and they are upset I unfriended them.

I deleted my Facebook app on my iPhone. I feel like fb is an echo chamber of repetition. I identify the work setting stuff. I'm tired of being robbed of my piece of mind. Facebook is a symptom, and reflection of our increasingly superficial society and its focus on appearance.. It is pathetic how looks-conscious our society has become; and instagram is the worst... so much showing off about one's appearance, and posts reflect such immaturity for one's age.. It is really sick when you think about it.. I grew up in the 70s and 80s and cannot imagine my parents posting photos of our family, posting photos of themselves constantly; at age fifty for example, their posting superficial shallow nonsense. It is sad, and it seems there is no returning to how everything was before facebook and instagram.

I feel users should be empowered to remove their own content if they want. Why go to the extremes of archiving everything after a person has no desire to be on the site? I am glad you think about these things. We are more than advertising revenue and sheep.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I can't agree with you more. It's been about 4 months since I've deactivated my account and been doing so much better ever since. FB is like an epidemic drug. Such a time waster and it messes with your mentality. I also feel it promotes egotism/narcissism. Ever since I quit, I've been more focused with life goals, being more productive, more confident in myself, better communication with close friends and family who cares, and being FREE from it.

I am doing the same. I am actually deactivating my Facebook forever. I am staying on writing sites. I spend only 3 hours of t.v. time a week now. Other times, I read, write, and spend time with family and go places.
@Milen5756 жыл бұрын
This is beautiful.
@ladybird4916 жыл бұрын
thank you! I really like spending time with people who care for me. I am currently teaching my family to stop being on cell phone so much, watching T.V. and being on facebook all day. I notice they are starting to not care for any of it, the longer they aren't focused on them I wasn't barely online for the past 3 days, out in the woods for three days, and I wrote 10 poems. What I did during the camping trip this week, is tell my family they can't be on the cell phone unless it is a creative activity they want to share with everyone, reading a story out loud to people or an emergency. I think on line sites should be used to promote your business or grow your business or skills and that is all. I no longer share my personal life online and I have hid all information related to it on my facebook. I deleted all my family related videos on youtube and made the rest private. I actually plan to download all those videos and then delete all the account. I am hid all my content on my facebook. I stop in youtube sometime but 90% of the time it is at my writing related account to check it.
@ladybird4916 жыл бұрын
I forget to mention my T.V. time is spent for my writing projects or a movie that the entire family wanted to see, and it is never more than 3 hours a week. Usually we watch two short movies or one long one a week. My family use to turn on the T.V. anyhow, and I would walk out and read and write instead. Now they don't rush to T.V. because they know I will not watch it with them, if I already watched 3 hours of it with them. I have decided to do an experiment and actually leave the house for 30 days, every day during all my friend time and spend it at a park, reading and writing. This will remove me from any distractions, phone ringing, traffic coming in and out of my house, guest stopping over without calling me first, neighbors and their noise. I am completely detoxing myself from city life and city life conveniences. I am only going home to eat, spend 3 hours with my family and go to bed. During it I am going on a water and no calorie diet only and then after fruits and veggies, and soups only. I am starting this Tuesday and documenting it. I think we spend far to much time inside houses, and with electronics for no good reason. I want to live more like the natives using tools only I need to write my books and document my progress. Follow me on my youtube this week

You hit the nail on the head: Do I want to spend my time in the world seeing and experiences on a tactile level? Or do I want to waste my time watching others experiences? The former choice is one of freedom and the later is of addiction and loneliness.

@Milen5756 жыл бұрын
Maxine, I know that feeling. People that want to contact you can make the time to find you too. There are other channels of communication they can utilize. If they did not have the time to call before with you on social networking and they don't have your phone number, chances are they won't bother calling when your off social networking either. At least that was my experience. I can say that the people I do stay in contact with at this point are people that have been in my life for years and will most likely be in my life for years to come. It is a much smaller group of people, but I can give them more with my time. This has had major benefits for my mental health also.
@maxinemadds44236 жыл бұрын
What's your opinion on KZbin videos. Do you limit your watch time or don't watch at all? That's my next step and I don't want to stop watching them but I do want to limit them.
@Milen5756 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on what you watch. Quality is important. I think I would prefer to watch more KZbin videos than cable television, but with anything media, it is easy to over consume. It is easy for me to burn out on some of the channels on KZbin if I watch them too often, so I think my mind has an auto off when I need a break.
@maxinemadds44236 жыл бұрын
Maxine Madds That’s true. I probably fare better limiting KZbin rather than quitting. I too like watching it better than tv. The benefits I have noticed since deactivating Facebook 3 weeks ago is I have more common sense (subjective) but I feel like I do, I’m less likely to compare myself, and more motivated to do stuff. Finally, I have more time and I can form and give my opinions without revealing too much about myself . If people want to know them they have to ask me.

People don’t have to put forth effort into meeting in real life because they know everything on Facebook. I’m tired of the stupid pictures of people posing stupid for a picture. People are not genuine. It’s a waste of time. When you hit middle age like me you decide your done wasting time and putting forth any effort on people that you don’t care for. The people I real do know can contact me if need be. Basically I want to be left alone and want no contact with people I don’t already know in real life.

I am pretty sure they hold on to that data as long as they can. One day, not having the data on their drives because it could save them money could bring about a purge of old accounts for more space, but that probably wont happen until they start running out of money. I would assume it would all be there over 5 or 10 years or even a lifetime, but because people keep using it, it may live on until the end of the world or even past that.

Milen575 - The good news is, Faceblech does not keep your account forever. A fairly well-informed friend told me they only keep your account on their servers for three months. If you haven't reactivated it by that time, it's deleted for real. If you want to return to Faceblech for some strange reason then you gotta open a new account & build it up. By the way, props for deactivating your account. I too grew up in the pre-Internet era, & have seen the Net change our world for good & ill. Was on FB for a few years, but as a result of some turmoil my account was falsely flagged. By that time I was thoroughly fed up with FB. It's been 10 months or so since then. I let the account go & haven't missed it.
