I agree, strava breaks friendships and affects nice casual rides, cose it trasnforms usual cyclists into racers in a blink of an eye and i think that's a crap thing.

One (minor) thing on garmin connect; the segment top-so much has no possibility to ‘protest’ against impossible segment times set. When it’s obvious someone was in a car getting the ‘kom’ (hello strava) , there’s no way of getting rid of that. In strava you can. Just yesterday i could delete someone from the top-10 who rode 93km/h on his bike in my flat country. I was 9th, now i am 8th again lol. If only in garmin i could do the same, report obvious fraude.

Totally agree with you there. I lost interest in strava when e mtbs came along because there's no way I would get a kom anymore due to the tuned e bikes. Same with the kudos, what does it mean.? Nothing !! Just get out and enjoy the ride. Stop to look at wildlife have a chat and a laugh, like we did in the 90s .

Just started limiting my rides to my viewing only because of reasons mentioned. Only make rides public when I get a pb 😊

Yeah strava puts a lot of pressure on you to perform and can easily lead to over training

Recently cancelled Facebook and didn’t miss it at all. It’s quite liberating peeling away the unnecessary social media

Thanks for the comment and I have to agree how liberating it is being free of social media. Just this weekend my wife was relaying a Facebook thread to me - which had developed in one of our local Facebook groups. I could actually feel myself getting wound up just listening to the comments - stupid people, dragging everyone down to their level and then beating them with experience.

Good move. It works fot some people of course. But it can be just another obsession and you end of doing it all for what other people say and think.

Done the same thing mate. I watched the social dilemma and changed my perspective. It's a good documentary, if you've not watched it, check it out. I ride for fun and found I was putting pressure on myself to always end up with a fast average speed. Got to the point when I was thinking about it going up a climb and beating myself up about it. Sucked the fun out of riding my bike! I use Garmin connect as well.

Thanks for the comment. Man, this sounds so familiar. It's fair to say that Strava is the biggest factor in stopping my wife from cycling - she got to the point where she was conditioned to do every ride on the rivet and simply stopped enjoying her bike because of that.

Ditched Facebook in December and Strava long before! Main problem was advertising my channel and uploading my group rides, but ended up ditching it all for my sanity. Good video😊👍

Completely agree with most of what you said. In particular, I get that Strava had to monetise their platform, but for me it doesn't really give me anything that Garmin Connect doesn't that warrants a subscription, and the free version is pretty pointless now that the unique elements are behind a paywall. Strava was great back in the day, then there was a real community feel, and it provided an incentive to train but it has lost that now in my opinion which is a shame. I wonder if they have gone the right way with the subscription model. It is really a social media platform and people generally aren't willing to pay for that. There are just better solutions out there now and their only USP is segments... that isn't worth a subscription in my opinion.

Many thanks for the comment. I totally agree with you and I also think that Garmin almost under-sell Connect. It’s actually a really solid platform and even has a social element to it. I also do agree that Strava just doesn’t have that community feel that it once did.
@frazerwallace7643
@frazerwallace7643 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheImprobableIronman I guess the other USP is that it is non-ecosystem-specific, so from a social perspective you can connect with friends who don't have Garmin. That is the only reason I don't delete it completely!

I’m almost with you but I love Zwift connectivity with Strava and I only post 70% of my virtual or actual bike rides to social media so as not to be a slave. I gave up on the excuses a year ago too and now have a laugh at others windy rides 😂
