Hi friends! Welcome to Wednesday’s video! I had a great question from one of you, asking why I don’t really wear much LV. I thought I’d chat through my reasons, but, these are JUST my opinions. Lord knows I’ve bought some dubious items that you guys have questioned over the years lol! My thoughts are that I love the Ready To Wear, but not so much the bags. What do you think of LV? Are you a big fan or not so much?xx

Hi Sophie!!! I'm not a massive fan of LV either. I like the items that are plain leather with just the LV clasps but not the traditional canvas patterns/logo. Bit later clicking today, was listening to my grandson Henry relate all his adventures at Pony Club camp, it's his last day tomorrow and he and his pony are having a blast, and he was excited to tell me everything he had been up to today. Are you a watcher of Wimbledon? I'm not into tennis but for some reason have always made a point of viewing as many games of this tournament as I can. Hugs xx

Hi Sophie. I do agree with a lot of what you are saying, so thank you for speaking your mind. Can't you do more of these videos of all of the brands, like Chanel, Dior, YSL, and Fendi, as I know you like. What's different now, then, say 5-10 years ago. Would be really fun to hear. I don't see a lot of fakes in Sweden bc it's illegal. Of course, people get them abroad, so you do see them. But if I go to say Spain, they are EVERYWHERE. But it seems like LV is addressing this now, so you can only buy the monogram in store, not online.

I recently bought a Neverfull MM in a limited Edition Design. There is a reason why this bag is so popular, you can literally fit EVERYTHING inside and the canvas makes it nearly worry-free in terms of scratching and staining. For my stage of life (in my 30ies, with a baby) it is ideal. There will be a time for elegant and small bags again but for me it is not now. I need a "work horse"😂 but I agree the prices have risen a lot lately and I would never call my bag "timeless", "elegant" or "investment".

I’ve had my Champs-Elysee, which is now called ‘Alma’, since I was 17. She’s just had her 48th birthday and still looks fabulous. She wears like an old friend. The canvas is indestructible, the hardware is industrial, and I’ve taken good care of the vachetta. With that said, I’ve never had any desire for another LV bag. I bought it because I loved the story behind the bag. Nothing else LV has made seems to compare.

Hi Sophie, I think that it's great that you have an opinion about LV and share it, as an LV fan I'm not a bit offended and I think one of the great things about KZbin is being able to hear honest opinions and reviews 😄I still love LV and I am pretty pleased with the quality of the bags that I have - I don't have any that have a lot of hard wear. I have used your tips about quality and what to look for when buying new bags (especially Chanel) and have learnt a lot. I'm also a Fendi fan too 😃💐💐💐

Couldn’t agree more with you, Sophie! I used to be obsessed with LV back in the day and had soo many of their bags on my wishlist. But now, I honestly don’t have any! I only buy vintage LV in excellent condition. I get stopped by people and they ask when i got them because they typically DONT like the existing styles or DONT see it everywhere. I went to Chanel to get a bag fixed and the SA worked for LV and said that the bag i had was still when their canvas was still high quality and she was amazed how almost new it looked. Your comments are spot on. Agree with you on the fakes. I reccomend styling monogram with very classic staples and no other logos. It tones the monogram down. I also only buy smaller pieces monogrammed.

I cannot believe there was ever a day in recent memory that the Alma BB was £450. I just bought mine last week (my first and probably only LV piece ever, I don’t like the brand much either) and with tax it was almost $2k. I refused to pay anymore than $2k because of the fact that it was canvas so I knew when I finally found it in-store I had to get it. Insane how these prices outpace inflation!

I still think they’ve got the only monogram print I find actually pretty and their classic designs are absolutely beautiful. My oldest LV item dates back to the 80s and the canvas quality is amazing. Fast forward to 2019 when I bought the giant monogram Speedy 30 and the canvas is wafer thin in comparison. I buy vintage EPI bags from the brand but there is very little that interests me in any of the new collections and anything I may be interested in are ridiculous prices. I love vintage so will continue to buy when I find things I love at much more reasonable prices!

LV is trying to appeal to a larger audience who’s younger and want fun designs rather than classic . I personally don’t like all the colorful silly looking prints but I still love the classic speedy, alma and NeoNoe in traditional monogram canvas and epi leather. I agree with you on your white canvas bag with colorful monogram. That’s an example of something I would not touch. I was always wondering how in the world they could ever come out with that.

The embellished bags are so gorgeous, I only wish I could afford them. There are some yearly Miami/other artisan custom design events of bags like Lady Dior and Cappucine. My personal favorite was an avant garde clear Lady Dior with a funky shape and what looked to be a swirled hand blown glass effect. Hope to find a bag with similar flavor in my price range. The Kusama and hardware collection of LV look really fun, would've loved the alma bb in the yellow with polka dots. My fashion sense is vintage/historical fashion, never been worried about trends.

Of all my designer bags, I own 70% of LV bags. I have never had any quality problem. I feel they are very good and very practical for everyday use. My Dior sand Chanel bags are only kept for special occasions and they are not practical for everyday use, same goes to ysl and Gucci, they are not everyday bags. LV is not the only brand that has fake, u find Dior and Chanel too! Can’t imagine myself carrying a Chanel bag to work!

Agreed. LV is not premium anymore. It's been cheapened as a brand. I had many LV bags that I bought new during the heyday of 1999 to 2006ish. Last year I sold them all because I didn't wear them and just was done with LV. I will say the quality back then was great. The only two LV pieces I still have and use daily is a cardholder and a cosmetic pouch. Bought them in 2000 and they still look amazing. I'm sure the new products fall apart fairly quickly. Just sad what some of these brands have become.

I think you can sat the same thing about Chanel, they raised the prices so high but the quality is so bad that I don't want to buy anymore Chanel bags, I bought 3 bags, all pre-loved because I don't think that brand new justify the price. I love Louis Vuitton, especially the classics, I have 4 bags, all in damier ebene, the only monogram pieces I have are slg's, and I'm obsessed with them. I recently bought the Alma bb, right before the last price increase, and since then, I don't feel the need to buy any more bags (even though I had a few more on my wishlist). I also try to buy the classics from the luxury brands, and I try to see what is reproduced every year.

I normally agree with your opinions but I am sort of skeptical about this one. A lot of the stuff you say here, including releasing one-off handbags, worse quality, high prices, lots of fakes and more applies to Chanel, Dior, and other big fashion houses. And then you were pushing cheap plastic Chanel knock-offs by Urban Revivo in the previous video.

The only issue with your point Sophie (8:00) is that you have some gals with a collection of 15+ classic flaps in a rainbow of different colors. At some point, how many can you have? I think a brand should have their classics and then also have different options for people who don't want what everyone else has. Just my $0.02.

Hey Sophie! You should do a video about the bags you have that are completely worth the price when it comes to their quality. Crazy that the multicolor LV isn't going for much over here. They are insanely expensive over here in the US, especially if the bag is in excellent condition because it's coming back around over here, and it's a collector's piece.

Thank you, Sophie, for giving your honest appraisal of LV. I agree with you. Twenty years ago I felt they were true luxury but rather boring (for me, that is). I actually love LV from practical point. Their canvas pieces are great for travel or work and you don't need to baby them. I stick to classics though. I've had my Speedy for more than 20 years and it's perfect and that bag went through a lot. It's true that recently they're releasing too many collections and designs but it's pretty much across all the brands. I remember when I got into fashion more than 30 years ago, all brands presented only two collections per year. Now, pretty much every brand has multiple number of collections. Unfortunately, it's all about money now. Everyone wants to sell as much as possible.

I agree @ceciliabrown3301 Old LV is super practical. I have had my Speedy for over 25 years, it was $500 lol. That thing still looks great and it has been through the wars. All my old canvas from that era still looks great. My old Epi leather bags still look brand new also, and they are all over 15 years old. I've seen newer Neverfulls crack after a year or two though, and they were spendy. I can imagine how disappointing it would be to have a bag that scratches itself also.

Louis Vuitton hardware is notorious for scratching. When Virgil first started reimagining the brand for Menswear and did the matt chain hardware on bags like the keep all there were numerous complaints of it wearing off within its first few weeks of use. The ready to wear collections are designed by one of the industries most respected designers but he is wasted at the brand - the bags are also designed by a well respected designer but they have no longevity in being classic, the brand has become cheap and this was signalled by the exit of Marc Jacobs. But you are so right about the fakes because it does cheapen it, the Dior book tote is a great example because the number of fakes has put me off.

I agree with most of your points; the tacky ‘trendy’ collabs IMO are really tied to creative director in charge. But even now we see something like the Marellini bag that’s so tacky and confusing; trying to be elegant and Y2K at the same time. But! If you decided to spend 2000 pounds on something you don’t wear, that is not a classic with low resell value (meaning you bought it not because you intend to really wear it because you love it?) that’s…not any brands fault.

I agree with you - my first real designer bag was a LV monogram pochette (which I still have and use even though it's 21 years old!) I bought and sold so many LVs in the early and mid 2000s especially at the height of the Murakami multicolor/cherry blossom era. I have to admit I still like the monogram multicolor LVs, although I sold all of mine years ago. The prices were reasonable and the quality was good. I still have a damier Neverfull and a denim pleaty as well as a damier papillon. However, the prices have gone up so much without a corresponding increase in value and quality that I'm just not interested in the brand anymore although I do still see LV bags that I like. However, I think the latest Kusama bags are hideous and expensive with those multicolored dots.

I took my Louis Vuitton Victoire on holiday last week and my boyfriend put it in the safe. When I got it back out, there was a noticeable dent in it. I was so mad at it being ruined but my boyfriend stuck a cup into the bag to kinda get the dent out from the inside. 2 days later the dent stretched back out and now it looks as good as new. As someone who does baby their designer pieces, Louis Vuitton really makes me take a sigh of relief because they really are hard wearing. If the same thing had happened to my calfskin Lady Dior, I would have died. I bought that one pre-owned and one of its flaws is a nail mark from opening the bag. It's very sensitive.

I don't agree. LV comes up with the most practical and long lasting bags compared to any other designer. There's so much choice too if you want something a little way out there. Their bags are spacious even down to the mini-pochettes. I'm always amazed at how much can fit in. Plus you never have to baby an LV. It takes care of itself. Further, some discontinued LV's actually cost more. Consider the LV Bumbag, for instance. You can't get it less than USD2,500 on pre-loved right now. Whether people make fakes of it or not, has not stopped me from owning a bag I want. Another thing, is that LV bags are easy to style. You don't need to be dressed to the nines to carry LV, but at the same time, if you're going out for the evening, you can still wear any of the pouches/clutches available. PS Canvas only cracks when not stored properly nor used often enough.

Good video Sophie. The reason the houses come out with quirky is that there are only so many classics to sell. Must keep in mind that they are a business like everything else and if they only sold “classics” their market is limited. How many “classics” can one own? If it’s truly a classic then it will last a lifetime and no need to purchase more right?

Couldn’t agree more. I think they’re trying too hard to be trendy and their recent bags come off looking cheap. I was a Louis devotee but have been slowly going off the brand. I do however love their monogram canvas SLG’s. The canvas does crack, have had that issue with at least one bag and LV doesn’t fix canvas. Also the return on investment is simply not there if you want to sell a bag. I’ve been trying to sell the Surene that I bought in 2019. It looks brand new. Bought it for $3K and can’t even get $1K for it.

LV is accessible luxury. That is the market position they occupy. An LV item was likely most people's first luxury purchase for those of us who aspire and they're OK. Perhaps we are just older and wiser now and can see that for it is? A gateway drug in to the wider "luxury" market for the newbies. My question is, why is the internet still calling it "canvas". It's PVC. Perception? Yes, through the lens of an individual. The reality is that it they are bags made of PVC with some leather trim and are manufactured, not individually Made.

Other from my Neverfull and two classic LV canvas bags all of my handbags from LV are full leather Empriente pieces. I love and use them all the time. I have 30+ small leather goods pieces roller suitcases, totes, jewelry, travel, cosmetic, wallets, key holders, etc and those have held up very well for the amount of use I put them through. They’re life time pieces that I will hand down to our three daughters. What are your thoughts on the LV full leather pieces.

Man's just wearing John Richmond head to foot. It can be afforded even by a skint student with some nixer, and in spite of being top-end design lasts and fits well, while not even occurring as counterfeits. Blessed is he who got cured from the loudest brands by finding a niche, nonetheless being able not to get drowned by the contourless mass. I like your videos, Sophie; they distinguish themselves by presenting luxe comprehensively while also making it clear that it represents an exaggerated, unreal need and only eventual opportunity. I would also try a Heron Preston shirt like you are wearing but already have my mind made up already not to go for repeated such expansion of my wardrobe. The greatest things are not obvious.

I only have 1 LV bag: Alma bb in DE and it's so casual, that I would wear it to university sometimes & saw plenty of Neverfuls on campus (didn't look long enough to care if they were real bags) I used to be so careful with it, but now it's really just another bag to me. The handles started rubbing pretty bad about 2-3yrs after

LV in my country is considered tacky because everyone wears fakes so everyone assumes that your LV bag is fake and it has turned into a meme. I can't look at them and take them seriously

I used to love LV. It’s one of the only high end designers I own, however, the last three purchases I’ve made (one being two weeks ago) have turned me off. I’ve had such bad quality issues. Even the bag I just bought I know is going to give me problems down the road. You can just feel the difference. It makes me sad but I’m ready to move on. I’m in love with a lot of contemporary brands now, and I’m also looking to get something from fendi. The sunshine line has been catching my eye.

Luckily we all have different favorite designer brands. Mine is LV. I have 8 and I use them all. Most are classics & vintage. Where as I wouldn’t carry a Chanel if it was free. I think they are the ugliest designer bag brand!!

Those brands aren’t even comparable tbh. LV bags are cute some of them but they literally all have the same print on them, just different bags in the same dang print. I don’t see how anyone could own more than 5 lv bags..

I was off of LV for along time but I got a cappucine and love it. Love. It is so special to me. There are complaint's about all these luxury houses. Chanel, which I adore has huge quality issues. The classic is copied like mad. Dior is wonderful but the lady has no resale value. I dont purchase the monogram LV anymore, but beyond that I still love the brand.

Sophie I agree 100%% you have said many wonderful things abt L.V. throughout the years, you should be entitled to an opinion. We can all see it,and the fakes just have been around forever, seeing all ages carrying the bag,and we know not everyone can afford them. Nothing wrong with anyone feeling put off the brand. Thanks so much for all you do!!!❤❤❤😊

I completely agree. LV peaked in the 2000s but also, it was still attainable in the early 2010's. Now, it's just so obscenely priced for what it is, the quality is so poor and the continuous churning out of hideous designs and tacky designs is just so off putting. I've found myself chasing vintage pieces because the quality and value is just so much better. I have a Vintage Noe GM and she's just beautiful and timeless.

Aside from the Neverfull I purchased while in Italy (USD was crazy strong so it would have been stupid of me not to get something), I haven't purchased anything new from LV in a while. I did purchased several vintage pieces when Marc Jacobs was in the house - those pieces have insane hardware and a lot of details, I feel that they don't make them like they used to!

I’ve always though LV ready to wear looks pretty bad. Even Tamara doesn’t look good in it. Ignoring the fakes part. It’s a pretty utilitarian brand. I think I might buy a speedy at some point. It’s also pretty much the entry level brand. I do like the cappucines bag. It is handmade.

I’m not into LV’s ladies monogram because i feel it looks cheap and i dislike the color. Monogram in graphite looks great imo. Plus i cant stand vachetta leather and consider it a waste of money. I bought their emphrent bag and loved it but the wax at the side edges melted… such bad quality. I had a valentino bag that i use less and doesnt have any problems to this day. Even if i liked an LV bag, i hesitate to spend money on one. They are not worth their price tag, not even if they cost half of their prices now.

I love some of the designs from LV. They had a beautiful Fornasetti collection with fabulous bags like the Cannes, that looks like a little castle. Also the by the pool collection was divine. Not all collabs are as beautiful, but they make bags for every taste and it is great to have options like that.

I wish LV would use better hardware, what they use now and maybe in the past too is utter rubbish. I have a Speedy 25 made by the French Luggage company from donkey years ago. The canvas is still good , and the leather has patined nicely, but I don’t use it now. Just keeping for sentimental reasons.

Personally I think the monogram print is just tacky, fake or not. Their leather bags are definitively a league above them. I don’t think it’s just the fakes that cheapen it, I think even people who wear the real monogram bags more often than not have “questionable” taste (not always though, a lot of people who wear them just have a more “classic” fashion sense which is also not to my taste). I do like some of their small leather bags I have to say, like the cappuccine but I just don’t have any need for them and would buy from a LOT of other brands first.

We can thank the monster conglomerate that is LVMH for what Louis Vuitton has become now i.e. a cash cow to be milked dry. It seems most brand they’ve bought will experience a drop in quality or craftsmanship value in pursuit of higher profits (see Loewe’s discontinuation of the classic Puzzle bag design for the easier to churn out new design, the numerous fragrance brands having their fragrances watered down after being acquired)

Hi Sophie As per the white bag which you don't want to sell due to not getting your money back: What is the positive of keeping something that you don't use? It is just taking up space. Why not recoup what you can, and use the money toward something you will use. Right now it just remains in your collection as a reminder of a bad decision.

Agree with you. My first LV bag I purchased in the boutique was Artsy empreinte in 2012 and then followed by Monogram Retiro in 2014 which was discontinued. Never purchased again from the boutique after that due to declined in quality. I’ve been buying vintage. Love the Speedy in epi leather. Very discreet. Unless you know, you know.
