@seventhsinn No brother, that's not the entire reason, and I own Bosch and Makita tools ,both made in their corporate countries, very good quality tools. Festool is guilty of corporate greed, just like BMW and Audi , $ 1500 for the Kapex ( which I've used a lot) is insane.
@michaelmancini57734 жыл бұрын
@seventhsinn Listen brother, I live this topic everyday , my partner has the Kapex, I have the Bosch glide saw, I paid $ 578.00, he paid $1540.00, my saw was manufactured and assembled in Germany, so was his, my saw has a better motor, his saw has superb dust collection, and is admittedly very accurate, but so is mine, I can cut large crown moulding on the flat, he can not, thats a big thing in the trim game. Festool is not worth the price, it just isn't.

And it was built with hand tools. It's still standing strong almost 135 years later. You are absolutely right: it's not the tools - it's your hands that create the work. I'm in my 70s, and I rarely learn anything about woodworking from someone as young as you. But you definitely taught me a few things. Thank you very much. Now I'm going to subscribe to your channel.

I am a huge advocate for Festool and have pretty much all their main tools. I think the reason people are asking you that so often is because you do all onsite work. The best thing about Festool is the portability, organization, ease of use, and how it’s so easy to operate all on one system. I started buying their tools because in the long run I see myself moving more towards onsite work. Recently, I have started doing more onsite jobs and it’s when I really started to appreciate the system. I am a huge believer in their tools but I will say I agree with you that tools don’t make the woodworker. The best tools aren’t required for excellent results. Definitely personal preference. However, Festool sure does make it enjoyable!

Most contractors do not use festool. It is usually woodworkers that use it because it has awesome dust collection and super precise tool. One tool that you could benefit is the festool track saw. It's really awesome. The back of the track has grippy material so you don't even have to clamp the track. The edge of the track is exactly where it cuts even at 45 degree. You would love it to cut plywood and cut the excess off a deck, etc. Also you can cut super close to a wall. If you use the festool vacum, then you can cut inside your customers house with almost zero dust.

@dvalery206 жыл бұрын
I will totally agree to everything you’ve said, Festool has a few staple tools that have made a big difference for example the track saws, Rotex sanders and the domino system, but mainly it’s the dust collection aspect of why they are so great. Accuracy in cuts all comes down to how well you can read a tape and knowing what side of the line you need to cut, not knowing that will result in shitty sloppy work wether you’re using a Festool, dewalt, harbor freight, etc. If you get a chance to get your feet wet on Festool and if you work with a lot of sheet goods try out one of the track saws, they definitely do a fantastic job at sizing down ply sheets and you’re also able to cut odd angles easily with it.

I purchased a festool kapex two years ago. my experience is that it is more rigid and has less blade runout than my previous Bosch glide saw. it is also marginally faster to change angles when mitering. also the optional hold down clamps are quick and convenient to use, so i don't keep my hands as near the blade as i used to with previous saws. small differences, but it was worth it for me.

Festools hold up great and focus on quality equipment that is easy to work with, as opposed to what's economical to build. We use them for sanding down hardwood floors all day long, as well as for cabinetry work, nothing holds up better. Their dustless options are also what really drive the product line. Besides, it's always a pleasure to stop in at Woodcraft and even painting store like Sherwin Williams are starting to carry some of their supplies. Yeah, their warranties look good on paper, but when my air compressor (rigid) started leaking, it took them 10 weeks to get it back to me and it still leaked the day I picked it up. As a fellow carpenter, I agree with your thoughts on the fact that the person matters more than the tool brand. Yet, the idea that Festool isn’t too expensive is not an opinion I can fully agree with. Festool cost twice as much as any tool you can look at. That alone makes it cost too much. They ultimately are not competing with the other manufacturers, however. The cult following makes that unnecessary. I learned the trade from my father, and he mostly used Dewalt, Milwaukee, and Makita tools. I personally own mostly Dewalt tools, but have tools from various companies. However, I need quality tools, so I don’t go beneath Ryobi tools, which I think Harbor Freights is beneath that line.
@imherehello1176 жыл бұрын
Some Harbor freight tools are as good as anything else. In particular the Chicago electric multi tool is rated second only to Bosch. And it is a close second on quality at 1/10 the price. On the other hand some things from there are not so good, like the palm sanders. So you have to be careful what you buy. I pretty much find that to be true no matter where you buy it.
@zone4garlicfarm6 жыл бұрын
I didn't think highly of Ryobi until I bought their cordless jigsaw. I had to cut some nasty material and didn't want to ruin my Bosch corded jigsaw. I bought a Ryobi expecting to destroy it but the saw surprised me with more than enough power and decent ergonomics. I will consider Ryobi in the future for tools that get infrequent use.

multidinero Festool, Lamello and Mafell are not cults. They offer tools that nobody else offers. A festool mitre saw for example can do accurate cuts on the bevel and mitre and has amazing dust extraction. Buying a tool from another brand that offers this is going to cost you nearly as much. Time is money. All that time spent messing around trying to get accuracy is sometime not worth it.

Hello, I appreciate your videos and they have helped me in my growing education. I'm restoring a 1950's house and had a lot of sanding to do within. From old cabinets, damaged walls, dated and damaged ceilings to all the old pieces of furniture collected to strip and restore. I was suffering from the amount of dust. I wear the serious dust ,]mask systems with pancake filters, and the fine dust still gets thru, my lungs would hurt after my long days of 5-7 hours of sanding. So I spent a lot of time researching an option for my health. I ended up purchasing a Mirka Deros 6" with the Mirka dust extraction system (yellow and black tools) I opted for them over Festool. Richard, I own about 6 different sanders and sanding was sanding, not my favorite job, but its gotta be done. but then add the weight, vibration, dust, lack of speed control and countless other items, I dreaded my work ahead, though I love what I am doing. I can not even begin to tell you how much I LOVE my MIRKA system. I am currently stripping down nine 11' church pews and even with 80 grit, it leaves no swirls or marks and it is as smooth as a 240 grit gave me in the past. I can actually move from 80 grit right to 240 grit and get glass like results. I wear a glove on one hand and the other free hand to stroke the wood as I sand.It's fabulous. The machine works with little or no vibration (compared to any sander I have or have tried. The Mirka is light weight, stops quickly, leaves no dust when used with extraction system (which rolls around so easily, following me with my work) The amount of time saved is UNBELIVABLE. I would like to encourage you to add one MIRKA DEROS and Dust extraction System to your collection. You are a wonderful teacher and you will love this product. My dad was a carpenter in Dallas, as well as a master at Automotive Repair. I wish he was alive for me to gift him this system. I chose it over festoon, I have a collection of tools too and not sold one one brand over another. Yes the skills are the most important thing, but in your hands, with the skills you have, you will soar with the Deros. Get the Deros 6" because you can switch the Sanding pad between 5" or 6" but not so with the Deros 5".

I own some Festool stuff but it stays in my garage shop. On the job it's Makita, Hitachi, Dewalt, Senco, Porter Cable and whatever else. FYI, Festool does have problems with their tools. Festool isn't perfect. The Kapex has had motor problems, I have one and the tables aren't coplanar and I didn't check it until after the 30 day trial. Festool won't fix or replace it. When using a guide bushing in my OF1400 the bit isn't centered and there's no user adjustment like every other router on the market. I had to send it in. They say they're going to fix it. Thankfully these aren't my every day tools. Except for the Domino which is really good with no comparable alternative I would suggest people look elsewhere for power tools. You can get 2 or 3 Dewalt or makita for 1 festool product. For the most part I'm done with Festool.
@HogsHeadStudios6 жыл бұрын
Kroban3 Yeah, unfortunately (fortunately for our wallets) the Domino is really the only thing Festool offers nowadays that can't be found better or cheaper from other brands. People wondered how his wife reacted to a paint sprayer, imagine if a finish carpenter came home with a Domino...

Evan LaBrie their rotex are second to none. There is nothing on the market that acts as a belt sander and orbital sander. I have seen Mirka on KZbin but can’t find out if they act as a belt sander. Mafell has a double dowel tool very similar to the domino. Priced similar as well. I think dowels are cheaper to buy at Cheapo then to take time and fab dominos. Either way I’m looking to get either one soon.

tccoggs this is why I do this internet shit. I have had my Festool for years now. I didn’t know Makita copied it. At the time I bought my Rotexes nobody else had one. I am looking for a 6” one. I will probably try the Makita. I think I saw Bosch has one now. I think Makita is a great brand. Horrible at marketing. It’s a shame.

I aggree. People are so into brands. The carpenter/ cabinet maker determines the precision and quality. I have seen great craftsman using china brands and by looking at their results you would have never guessed what brands they use.

I’ve used a ryobi corded 50 buck circular saw for 2 years now - all I need is something straight and long and a workbench and it’s just as good as a 3000 buck saw stop cabinet saw - if you’re so concerned about branding you need to go into fashion, not construction. I can also take my hundred 50 dollar black and decker chainsaw and kick the ass of any guy with a dewilt one, or even a comparably sized husqvarnia saw. Point is if it cuts, turns on and doesn’t jam then it’s good in my book. The single reason I even use dewalt as often as I do is because the first tool I got was dewalt, and having the same battery made it a no-brainer

I have festool makita bosch pasloade hitachi stabilla ... all great tools and I dont think my skills will ever out perform them but they do compliment my skills and they earn me money! Most ppl that complain on festool just need to look at mafell or hilti for a price comparison but then again you got to look at the whole picture of service and so on. These tools aint for non professionals they are for ppl earning money. Most ppl that complain on the price of these tools probably cant afford then and get bitter.
@dmitrijusciubinskis51566 жыл бұрын
Hilti is not that expensive in Europe. For private use, yes they cost more than Makita or others. But the main problem is the wide range of tools, that other brands offer. Im not carpenter so Festool or paslode is NO, even Hilti does not cover all my needs, so i would choose Bosh or Dewalt for myself.

Personally I keep my eyes on Craigslist for older tools. I’ve got a couple hitachi c10fsh miter saws and a Makita ls1013 as well as an old Makita 2708 Tablesaw in a Rousseau Stand. I’ve found the older tools to be less complicated and more robust. They also require less work to make deadly accurate. To boot their less expensive, but do require a little time to clean up and dial in. However in the end you’re right. It’s the carpenter not the tools, a good carpenter can produce good work with mediocre tools but nice tools make the job much easier and do it more efficiently.

You are preaching to the crowd brother! What you said is exactly how I feel about carpentry, fine woodworking etc. It's about craftsmen and not the tool. The woodworkers in the 1700s didn't have a Festool track saw and their cuts were so dead on that in many cases you couldn't see the cutline. How do you explain that kind of accuracy?
@likearockcm6 жыл бұрын
I see why the bench is your least favorite tool.Carrying around that really heavy trim is all the weight training you need.🤣💪
@unreliablenarrator66494 жыл бұрын
Woodworkers who have to do high precision cabinetry and fine furniture prefer FESTOL for the precision and flexibility. If you are doing framing and commercial cabinetry, it is probably a luxury and overkill. Sure you can use a pocketknife cut-down tress, but is it effective?

I have a Festool track saw and you don't only get a straight guide. You get superior dust collection and there are chip guards on the saw and the track so you can cut cabinet grade plywood and not get any tear out or splintering. It is also faster. Can you get the job done without it, Yes.

I was skeptical when I saw the title. But I heard you out, and you da man. Giving an honest answer and telling it like it is - what is more important than tool brands is your work ethic, your skills, and how you think. Word. If I made a living with tools, you are absolutely right - Festool is not expensive if they save you time. Whatever you charge for a job, if some tools can save you a few hours or days - they'll pay for themselves easily - and you will make more money in less time.

Not in the trades but what Festool has done better than anyone else innovation and marketing. The amount of accessories fit and finish, the way Festool markets them far superior that anyone else. Also Festool went after the finish and woodworking trades first. They also created a demand by not putting them in the big box stores. Are their tools good yes. Does Festool make the customer feel special absolutely! Is that a bad thing nope, the other brands do the same thing as well Festool just does it differently. Festool gives the customer a luxury of a premium experience. Festool went in a direction the other brands different, all the accessories and tool adjustments are better marketed than any others. Do they make a quality tool absolutely! Think about this before Festool who really heard of a track saw.....no one. They put they tool on the map and a new category. Would I own festool I think so. Since I’m not using the tools everyday I don’t see the need to go premium price tools. I think the big brands make a great tool at reasonable prices. From what I have seen Festool does give you a great finish from what I have seen and used.

Agree . go watch AvE channel. He breaks down the festool to expose the cheap piece of junk it is. Internals that dont last.
@tccoggs6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that the AVE teardown of the TS55 says it's junk, I think it's basically saying that for what the saw sells for you should get better quality components/build. I was not impressed with the TS55 not enough power, and I hate how the response from festool was buy the ts75. If you compare to the other saws in the TS55 category, they are all more powerful and don't overheat as easily as the festool. I replaced my ts55 with the Makita x2 cordless and even it's more powerful than the corded ts55 was. Plastic brush holders, bronze bushings vs ball bearings, I mean come on guys.

Festool is rad because of the built in dust collection system. I've used it for years.. one of my contracts is replacing doors in a highrise and I can literally route mortises in the hallways on carpet and not leave a mess. That alone makes them worth while. My time is important and I cant spend it all on an elevator or cleaning up. That's why I like them. But to each their own. I dig your videos.. good to see passionate humble woodworkers!!

Love the humble attitude... I love woodworking but I'm still young and getting the shit end of the stick of life atm, so if I can afford the tool and it helps not only make the job easier but helps me get the job done, then so be it. Not gonna let my pride get in the way of letting someone catch me using Chicago electric tools. Hell my welding hood is Chicago electric and its made my life so much easier. It may not be the best miller hood on the market but it gets the job done. I just dont have 2 to 300 to spend on a hood.. But I like the way you put it tho, "it gave me professional results". Glad I found your channel and subbed when I did. Genuine true content and I dig it. Keep it up. Liz - Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Great video, once again. Totally agree. You can even dirtbag it with the most expensive tools. It all comes down to how you measure, mark, scribe,etc., your pieces. The same goes for sharpening or buying quality blades. The tool has to has to compliment the blade just like a car compliments a certain type of tire. That's where the rubber meets the road.

I watched this video about a year ago. I had the time to really use my Festool gear. It is absolutely better results. Im not talking about just the quality of the cut, but just the overall quality. Dust control, cleanliness, organization all plays a role in someones home. Its not that I don't use other tools, I surely do. Before Festool, I used big box store brands (Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee) and still do... BUT I must say Festool is worth the $$ just give it a try. Their sander, vacuum, tracksaw, and joiner are ALL top of the line and do amazing with keeping everything neat and clean. To me thats really important as we always wear booties and wrap things up before we start any task. But hey, use what you want. Makes no difference to anyone else. Our company is just very conscious of our clients and want to give the best overall experience, not only quality of work.

Some arrows allow a bow man to perform in different ways such as different guns allow hunters to catch various. Now it depends on what the crafts man needs in his tools. Festool are super accurate but so are other brands. Festool only targets the upper end of the market while Dewalt targets middle and upper market.
