Frank Castle is an underrated character. People often think that he's just a violent antihero with a chip on his shoulder but he's so much more than that. Just like how Peter Parker tries to honor his uncle's memory by being responsible with his powers, Castle is motivated by his family's murder but is driven by a desire to ensure that guilty parties are punished.

What we've got here is a classic case of misdirection. The dialogue is saying one thing, but the character's actions are saying another. That's because, for the duration of his appearance, Netflix's Punisher is not honest with himself. He's trapped in a cycle that he thinks he can escape, he thinks he can become someone who puts his mission behind him, he thinks he can go back to being Frank Castle, but Frank Castle is dead First we see this in the trial. Everyone wants him to convince the jury that he didn't make the decision to avenge his family in a state of mental wellness, that he acted rashly and impulsively as a result of his trauma. But Frank takes this personally because he has thought it through, and he knows the only way is for those responsible to die. That's why Matt can't win that argument. Frank has already decided on his stance. This is the first misdirection. The Punisher isn't crazy, he's doing this to prevent those who hurt him from hurting anyone else. He is The Punisher, but only for the duration that those he needs to punish still live. Once they're all dead, he's finished... right? Next we see this in the conspiracy. Frank thinks he's completed his mission and takes up a normal life, keeping to himself and trying not to think about the recurring nightmares that still haunt him in spite of doing what he set out to do. But it's an illusion. He's living the life of a dead man, fulfilling no more than his basic needs for survival. And when the opportunity presents itself, he relapses. For the duration of the season, this inciting incident goes unresolved. Sure, he uses the conspiracy as an excuse, reinstating his operation at the drop of a hat when he happens to discover it at the same time, but he never really confronts what happened at that construction site. This is the second misdirection. Frank's mission will never be over, he'll always find another target, another connection leading him to someone else he has to kill. But fundamentally, this story is still about the radiating conspiracies and crime surrounding his family's death... right? Frank is finally done, and this time he's recovering the right way. His normal life is no longer an illusion. He makes a real connection with someone he cares about, someone he actually wants to forget his violent past to be with. But when the opportunity presents itself, he still relapses anyway. This time he takes in a young girl with absolutely no connection to his family. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but he's protecting her anyway. Now Amy is the perfect foil for Frank at this stage because she doesn't take any bullshit, even if Frank believes what he's saying 100%. She confronts him with hard questions that he doesn't have answers to, like why it seems like he wanted to kill her attackers, forcing Frank to finally admit to himself this is all his life will ever be now. She also knows exactly who he is on the inside. Once they get close, Amy refers to him as "the fucking Punisher" when confronting her tormenter, a name he hasn't used in years. By now, the curtain has been pulled, and the third and final misdirection is complete. Frank has always been The Punisher, he has ever since that day at the park when he lost everything. He kept looking for a justification to kill, but as soon as that reason was gone he felt empty. He confronts the gangs, for no other reason than because it's what he wants. To give anyone who hurts people the same punishment he did to those who hurt him, who hurt Amy, and who will hurt anyone else ever again. Forever

I'd be all for a Punisher TV show, but nowadays it's impossible to do it. Not even Marvel wants to be associated with the character anymore because they think he's a problematic icon. The Netflix show had everything to be perfect, just like the Daredevil show, but it failed and it failed HARD. I remember it was supposed to come out at the end of 2017, but they delayed it because of a shooting that happened in Vegas, even though there's nothing to do with it, and that's the problem today. Now there's the whole police BS (which is just stupid, I have no idea how authorities are allowed to use an official symbol from a company), so people mistakenly think Punisher represents nonsensical stuff like fascism, racism and whatever-ism they can think of, which got Marvel to basically tone the character down and that's why he barely uses guns. Unfortunately, Punisher is a character that people don't understand and is heavily difficult to get well adapted anywhere, which is why we're still struggling with it.

I just hope they don’t make him a heartless basted who kills people with no self awareness, the most interesting part of the punisher in my opinion is that he knows he’s a monster and he hates himself, even saying he keeps the last bullet for himself, also I don’t like it when they make him hate other heroes
