I lost 30 lbs in 6 month and kept it off without diet. I had a japanese guest in my house for 4 months that taught me how to make Japanese food. I ate rice in the small japanese rice bowl 3 times a day!! with chicken, fish, veggies.. It satisfied my carbs cravings and I didn't care for bread anymore. Plus, regardless nutrition, Rice digest better than bread. Eating and losing weight with no diet made me really curious about nutrition so I started to juicing once a day. Not only I didn't gain the weight back, I haven't been sick for over 4 years. It's Amazing.

@kurapikakurta38636 жыл бұрын
@@wadedewell Use beans and other legumes (or tofu) and buy veggies in season or check out the frozen section of your groceries. Beans are roughly around 2usd/kg in my area and I only consume half of that per week plus 550g of calcium set tofu(for cheap source of protein and calcium). Just soak beans in lots of water with a teaspoon of baking soda overnight, rinse thoroughly and boil it for an hour(depends on the kind of legume of course). You can portion it and freeze(lasts for months in the freezer) I usually have that with a good variety fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, veggies, cruciferous veggies, green leafy veggies, and just the most essential supplements, and I only spend around 10-20usd/week. Very cheap. Check out the links below for some recommendation of food you should include in your everyday meals as they really give you the best bang for your buck as they are most nutrient dense, and contains the most amount of micro/macronutrients and are usually the cheapest, most readily available food anywhere. nutritionfacts.org/2011/09/12/dr-gregers-2011-optimum-nutrition-recommendations/ nutritionfacts.org/video/dr-gregers-daily-dozen-checklist/ kzbin.info/aero/PL5TLzNi5fYd_UG_KSb-xAD8FifmKuEKuh

Thanks for posting this video. I ate brown rice for several years because of all the health arguments promoted. But I really wasn't happy, because as a Chinese American I eaten white rice all the time and really missed it. After several years of miserably eating brown rice, I realized that I hadn't felt any change in my health and that brown rice hadn't made any difference health wise. I went back to white rice, was much happier, and concluded that for me at least, the psychological benefits of white rice by far outweighed any undiscerned benefits of brown rice.

@AJtheory That's a bit insensitive, don't you think?
@lapillus23444 жыл бұрын
@AJtheory No, i meant that to tell an anorexic person "just stop" is insensitive. I'm anorexic, but I still fast and do keto. It's recommended for people with eating disorders not to diet. But it's more than a fear of gaining weight, it's a control issue.
@lapillus23444 жыл бұрын
@AJtheory What I mean by control issue is that when people feel like they're out of control, they control their eating habits, which become an obsession. But I don't think you get it, man. Anorexia never really goes away for your entire life, because like depression, it's a mental illness. You can be recovered but still have those thoughts. I recently relapsed, but it's not always a weight issue. It's the power of control, to be able to have intense self discipline in order to see the numbers on the scale go down, which is seen as a reward, but creates a negative cycle. Telling someone recovered (or still suffering) with an ED to do Keto or IF is a guaranteed way to derail their recovery. It's a polarizing illness that's incredibly black and white, where things are "good" and things are "bad". Polarizing foods and eating windows, even if better for health, aren't better for anorexics because they'll take the framework of the diet/lifestyle and make it extreme. They turn it into a diet.
@samsiegel8883 жыл бұрын
Right on. Also, just because there are more nutrients in brown rice, doesn't mean they are bio-available. Brown rice is coated with phytic acid, an anti nutrient that inhibits mineral absorption. So it's counter intuitive to always assume whole grains are healthier.

Brown rice tastes icky, AND, upon doing some research online, recently, because of the brown rice thing with "health foods", I discovered that of all the rices, brown rice, contains TONS OF ARSENIC- a poison! Jasmine had the least, miniscule amount of any arsenic of all the rices. LOVE your channel, and you are helping me so very much, with eating healthfully, and properly, and ridding excess unhealthy sugar from my eating. You are the only KZbinr I found, that had a detailed way, of eliminating sugar. Westerners are also quick to add flavoring to white rice: Soy sauce is the first time to come to mind. Adding unnecessary sodium. I also known an American who puts butter on his white rice. Butter? As a Chinese-American I don't do either. For me soy sauce is a cooking ingredient and butter is for toast.

threre are no vitamines in plastic rice thats why their skinny. cost too much to eat over their too. we got huge 2nd generation asians here in the USA with tiny parents. True they eat slightly different from their parents but as kids they ate what their parent made them.
@normanlee66097 жыл бұрын
MrAlivallo.....the rumors of plastic rice only date back to 2011. 6 years doesn't explain generations of small Asians. More relevant rumors of plastic rice are just that....RUMORS. To date there are no substantiated reports from reliable sources, only often repeated controversial conspiracy stories on social media. A better explanation for small Asians is degrees of poverty within its history. For example for much of Mainland China's history it was an agrarian society. Modern industrialization did not really began until the AD 1960s in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution which led Mainland China to it's current economic status. Point of fact, in the more prosperous coastal cities Chinese society has to deal with a unexpected after-effect of their enhanced incomes: child obesity. And on the subject of Asian-Americans, as an ABC (American born Chinese) the first generation of immigrant Chinese, yes, my parents were small as am I. Being poor, proper nutrition in the 1950-60s were hard to come by. For my son (2nd generation of Chinese-American) he, as a child, had a more proper diet so he is taller than I (5'6"). Not quite average American height but an improvement. Also a bit over-weight, which I blame on American fast food, which is also why Mainland Chinese children are suffering from childhood obesity.
@MrAlivallo7 жыл бұрын

What people don’t realize is not everything is about how nutrition that food item has rather how much of it is your body absorbing. If your body is struggling to digest brown rice, you are stressing out the digestive system and most probably not absorbing those nutrients at all. Besides that there is the risk of more arsenic content in brown rice compared to white rice.

I grew up in an Asian family eating lots of rice, so when I went to college, I just cooked myself a bowl of white rice with vegetables every night for dinner- no issues with weight/fitness at all for me :) Unless rice is literally the only thing you're eating, then white/brown is not much of a difference.

My diet is a bit weird actually. I am an asian woman in my 20s. I am on a high protein / moderate fat / moderate carb diet. Please let me know if this is weird or OK. 8am: White rice + salmon + miso tofu soup + kimchi (I choose a heavy breakfast because having white rice in the morning would never make me feel sleepy right after. Probably it's because the effect of just waking up makes me feel less sleepy. White rice makes me really energised.) 10am: Yoghurt 11:30am: Gym + protein shake 12pm: Salad + chicken + egg (I do not consume much carbs, other than vegs, from 12 - 4pm as this is the 'sleepiest' time if I were to consume heavy carbs) Snack: Cranberries (to reduce effect of blood sugar during lunchtime. I don't want to feel sleepy between 12 - 4pm. and I don't want to rely on coffee.) 4pm: Snack - toast with jam 6pm: Brown/red rice + chicken breast + broccoli Snack: Blueberries, milk

Brown rice has much more arsenic and mercury. I'm sad to say it but for people that eat a lot of rice, white rice may be the safer option. And protein in the amount you get from rice and vegetables or potatoes and vegetables is the ideal amount for a human. Elevated protein from the sulphur amino acids is the primary driver for reduced longevity. The benefits of a low protein diet likely outweigh the negative aspects of the arsenic and mercury if you have a low protein low fat high carbohydrate diet.

The explanation at 4:00 is key. Food digestion is key, and many foods have some kind of skin, shell, or even a chemical emitting coating to protect itself. Consuming these outer 'shells' is the biggest challenge to good health.

Most kinds of brown rice have anti-nutrients and also contaminants from the lands of origin, all of which are in the outer skin. Hence whole grain rice requires soaking before cooking so as to reduce the intake of anti-nutrients and contaminants. Rice grown on land having no agricultural poison is rare. Soaking can reduce some of the anti-nutrient load but much will remain. Pressure cooking is the only answer.
@ehumphreys82534 жыл бұрын
Can you tell me how pressure cooking improves it? I'd be happy to eat white rice more, but I wouldn't want to give brown rice up completely. (and I do have a pressure cooker, but rarely use it for normal meals...) Thanks in advance! I realise this is an old convo :)

@davidbrogan6065 жыл бұрын
@@Festerbestertester6 Wrong, Wikipedia states, "jasmine rice is a long-grain variety of fragrant rice (also known as aromatic rice). Its fragrance, reminiscent of jasmine (Pandanus amaryllifolius) and popcorn, results from the rice plant's natural production of aromatic compounds, of which 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline is the most salient."
@Festerbestertester65 жыл бұрын
@@davidbrogan606 - That's good to hear. I had an Indian food grocer tell me his Jasmine rice was just ordinary rice scented with Jasmine. So either he was trying to direct me to his Basmati rice, or perhaps some rice suppliers do actually just scent their rice. He was a part-time professional chef, and seemed to know what he was talking about.
@davidbrogan6065 жыл бұрын
@@Festerbestertester6 It is interesting that the scent of the jasmine rice degrades over time. It was interesting learning more about rice. There are a lot of false comparisons between bread and rice. Most websites tell you that Bread is less calories, more protein, more fiber, etc... But what I have realized is that they are comparing 1 cup of rice to 1 slice of bread, I have never seen a Gram per Gram comparison. Its kind of Ridiculous because one slice of bread is like 40grams and 1 cup of rice is about 200grams. So gram per gram Rice kills bread in calorie content, and the ability to fill you up and eat less...

Of course, but if you compare a rice cake with a slice of bread then rice cake wins. 8 grams of rice cake is about 32 cal.

I used to always go the brown rice rout until I found out that brown rice contain way higher levels of arsenic, and can build up in the brain....the arsenic is higher because of the bran layer. It's also one of the many many reasons I try and avoid bran, wheat, and most other grains. Rice and maybe oats are the only grains I know of that don't deteriorate the digestive system. The majority of digestive disease and problems modern humans suffer from stems almost solely from grains, processed sugars, and processed carbs (which for the most part are grain/corn based...pastas, breads, etc..). White rice is a great source of healthy, natural carbs, as well as different types of legumes.

This is too general and just not true, basmati white rice for example has much lower GI than White Jasmine rice or sticky rice. Also in the United states Brown Rice is not healthy with much higher arsenic levels. Get your fiber elsewhere. Also Basmati Rice is more nutritional dense than most other widely available white rice, so it should be the Gold standard.

Hi Annie Chophi, that was just an ironic joke! Of course, most Asians are not overweight although they consume rice on a regular basis. Now I don't speak for the American Asians, I mean most Asians in Asia. Japan has an obesity rate of 3% even though they consume rice several times a day on a regular basis. One thing though, Asians do not consume rice by itself if everyone wants to talk about the GI index, and the thing is, Asians consume also fatty meat or fish like mackarel fish with their rice, hence bringing down the GI index total. Typical asians do not consume chicken breast for example. I have lived in Asia, Europe and now the States and I observe these all the time.
@DiscoverHealth6 жыл бұрын
We Asians also eat brown rice! You should not support white rice as it was processed and has no fiber what made it be high in GI value. And moreover, fiber is not only to stop the sudden spike in glucose level it also aids in so many bodily functions.
