I’ve been waiting for a 14” since the rumors of a 16” MacBook Pro. I recently bought an iPad Pro 11” M1. So happy with it. I do think I might outgrow what it can do, so if it ever comes out, I might go for it.

Ultimately this "waiting" was the reason I completely tuned out "rumors". It's fun to see what it could be, but at this point rumors are just about shilling something hypothetical and then when it actually gets out either you get underwhelmed (because you knew what was going to be there already) or disappointed (because it didn't include the 'rumored' features). Also, it's why I just bought an Air instead. If anything I could resell this in the future if need be, but really M1 now is more capable - aside from benchmark scores (which it favors very well), the system in and of itself is really just unthinkably better in many ways.

Great video with some great insights as well. I'm a photographer working with a 15-inch retina 2015 retina and I'm itching to upgrade. The plan is to see what the M1X has to offer and weigh it against the older M1s and see if the savings are worth it.

I was hoping to get 14-inch MBP this summer. But since it's been delayed, I ended up getting the base model Air for 899$. I feel like for this price, the MBA is an excellent laptop not only compared to the old Air but also compared to other Windows laptops. I feel like, for an average user, the base model is good enough for the next 2-3 years. Also, 14-inch MBP will be way more pricey given it's a redesign with a spec bump.

You should check Best Buy open box M1 MacBook Air. I was able to purchase the base model yesterday for $675 in excellent condition. The best part is I can still add the $200 Apple Care 3 year plan for a total of $875 (not including tax)

The MBA is more than enough for more than an Average use.. You'll linger with that thing for years with no issues.. Plus compatibility is slowly being not an issue now..

the gaint trackpad on my 16 inch is really annoying. It is so big that the palm rest areas are edged to the sides. I had to use 13 inch but the screen is too small.

I've been waiting for a couple months as well and was hoping for a September launch as I'm starting with college. After the rumored prices I pulled the trigger and bought the M1 MacBook Pro. I need it right away for school and it will probably be good enough for my needs as well. Sure, more speed is great and I could use it, but I'm not willing to spend more than what I spent now. So yeah, I think the M1 is good enough and will only get faster as more is updated.

I’m so aggravated at the idea of losing the touchbar: it adds incredible function if you know how to use it, and for developers who can build their own menus it’s incredible. If I wanted function keys instead I’d hit function or use a regular keyboard when docked.

Interesting to hear your perspective Rob. As someone who used to own a MacBook Pro with Touchbar, I always found with the amount of time it took me to look down and find the function I needed, it would've been faster just to learn the keyboard shortcut. We'll have to see what happens!

Dont trust the rumors indicating at the touch bar going away, only leaks images, cad renders etc are of the macbook air, which already doesnt have the touchbar. For the pros the leaked renders only show the chassis and nothing else. I believe it is going to stay, even if it gets smaller. Theres nothing indicating otherwise. All so called analysts or leakers have no credible source, unless u consider themselves a source. The origin of the rumor that touchbar is going away is jon prosser, i think everyone is just following what he says like a sheep. He has been wrong and will be wrong again(everyone who says touchbar is going away, are the same people who said at least one new mac is going to be launched in the last apple event, including the ‘analysts’ and leakers).

I like it too, even if I am not really good with it. I regularly use it for screenshotting and some auto correct, because it is solo easy with it. Though I have to add that I suspect that the touchbar is the reason why my MacBook Pro shut down unexpectedly twice - when I looked into the report it something along 'pointer exception' and touchbar service

With much smaller bezels around the display and 16GB of RAM either as standart or as only 100$ upgrade would make this laptop so much better of a choice. So, unless one's in a rush, do wait for updated M1X Pro models or next years M2 Air's. As an interim I got myself cheap ThinkPad.

I would have bought it too but because my 2015 Mac of 6 years with ports stopped working randomly then my iPhone 8plus is slowly wearing done randomly then my AirPods stop working so I really need a laptop but coming from the 2015 with ports and MagSafe going to the recent laptop with no MagSafe n no ports seems like a downgrade so even though I reallyyyyyy want a laptop I can’t I have no choice but to wait because I heard there’s ports n MagSafe even though the m1 air is really good if I wasn’t for those things I would have gotten it

I too, after much frustration, decided that screen real estate for Premier Pro, PhotoShop, and Lightroom Classic was even more critical than speed. So ... I now have 2 32" QHD monitors on the wall which are driven by a fully loaded Intel MacBook Pro. A far better solution than my iMacPro which proved to be a dud when it came to processing performance for the applications mentioned and SketchUp. If the new, fully configured M1x based MacBook Pro has significant performance improvements, I'll go for it. Like you, however, I don't think I'll ever return to a desktop vs. a portable laptop.

SD card slot is the real tumour for laptops. On one hand, it is one of the only I/O on laptops---- other than the RJ45 Ethernet, that can't be replaced by something USBC directly (Unless all cameras start to use USBC PSSDs). On the other hand, most current MacBook Pro users don't even use SD cards, we're not film makers, contents craters or photographers, we don't use SD cards, lots of us bought the MacBook Pro just for a faster experience because those pre-M1 Airs were too weak. Now of course, the MacBook Air got really powerful, we could switch to that, so SD card slot's return to the high end MacBook Pros make sense since we won't bother getting them.

There are a lot of advances in graphics recently so I wouldn't be surprised if the M1X's main selling point will be huge improvements in graphics performance and AI acceleration as a result of that. And maybe just so they don't completely rely on one selling point, they will bring some new design changes that will entice more users to buy a Mac device again.

It's crazy how in some ways the base model of the M1 Air is better than some of the previous Intel pros that cost like $3000 with problems like the butterfly keyboards and shorter cables, overheating and etc. It actually made me consider buying an Apple laptop this year and with the m1, it uses the same chip instead of dealing with choosing i3, i5, or i7s

I am using a 2019 MacBook Pro 13 with 2x thunderbolt ports. My Mac is holding up just fine, I am in no rush to jump over to Apple Silicon. Dual display is critical to me and I don't want to deal with DisplayLink for several reasons. Honestly, I see the "M1X" MacBook Pro "14" will probably slot in at $1800 replacing the current Intel MacBook Pro 13. I'm sure there will be a MacBook Pro 16 to replace the current one priced at $2300, but I doubt Apple will eave the $1800 price point that it currently occupies.

Hey Abuzar, if your main job is doing video editing or high end tasks I would go with the MacBook Pro. The fan means it can sustain high speeds for longer plus it has better battery life. Because I don't edit as much on this laptop, the Air was better for me because of the price. Hope this helps :)

Make me remember when my friend asked me "why not wait for the M2 chip or something. it only a few months later to get the better one?". I wondered at that time that why Apple "kill" their products so fast while just release the M1 chip a few months ago? I did some quick researched and told him that "It was just a rumors and no way Apple released M1 and let it die soon...and well, i bought it already. I know M1 chip or the ram inside my new iPad still haven't been used for its own potential yet. Looking at other iPad Pro as well, they still use freaking well and impressive. So maybe next year they may release the better chip but i know my iPad still can be useful and enough for me more than 5 years." My old iPad Gen 6 still use so well more than 3 years tbh. But i decided to upgrade because of ram. I need better ram for drawing in Procreate.

I totally get you and I'm struggling to hold on to my 2014 13-inches waiting for the 14-inches. Just one thing about the video, I don't think is fair to say the new MacBook Pro will cost $2k more than the Air or the current 13 Pro. More likely than not, the 14-inch will replace the top of the line 13-inches, which right now costs $1800, while the new 16-inch will cost more or less the same as... well, the current 16-inches.

Hey Ale, thanks for your comment. I agree and I think what's confusing is my prices are referencing Australian dollars which is more than USD. The current Intel 13 inch models here in Australia start at $2.7k compared to $1.5k for the MacBook Air :)

The $1800 version would come with an M1X (or whatever is called) with double the performance cores and double the GPU cores, one or two more USBC ports, HDMI and SD card reader, maybe a miniLED screen and probably double the RAM and storage of the base model. It’ll be a totally different computer, not “just .3 inches bigger”.

I love the air M1 but still it's the 1st gen apple silicon mac.so I am waiting for the m2 air for the redesign and other stuff What do you think should I go for the M1 or wait for the m2

I'm usually a bit nervous of first gen products but because the MBA is a tried and tested design, and Apple have been making their own silicon for ages, they really nailed this one. The rumours of the M2 seem cool but no idea when it will be coming out. If you're in no rush, I would wait it out!

Im still on my MBP 2011 and was going to wait for the m1x pro that's coming. But past few days I've been really thinking about just getting the MacBook m1 that's out already... I can't make up my miiind.

I've been using it for some editing mainly on DaVinci Resolve and it's been great! Can't comment how many years it will last you though. Depends on your needs too.

exactly the m1 MacBook is a 8 and 7 core machine that will see you though there next 5-10 years without issue. Anything more is just over kill unless you need something for seriously pro stuff
