why i had to delete tiktok (and you should too)

I was working on this video for a while making sure it wasn't just my algorithm. I tried my friends accounts as well as the new account that I made, and the results were all similar. What I did find interesting was that it was only sometimes that the search/blue comment results would be filled with the brainrot content. A lot of the time when I was gathering clips for this video, those videos wouldn't pop up and i would have to try again later. The tiktok algotithm is very smart and operates in quite a peculiar way. I just thought it was super odd how it would suggest those videos in the top of the results when those videos are rarely even on my fyp. Let me know if you've experienced something similar.

I deleted it in 2021 and reinstalled it last year and within 1 whole month it crushed my mental well-being. My behaviour changed drastically, not for the better and I genuinely shocked myself at how different I became. I wish I stayed bored instead of using that app as an outlet. If you’re ever contemplating going back or reinstalling, DONT. Please be safe instead of sorry.

Well banning isnt a solution. I’m from turkey and banning platforms just limit your freedom. First it’s tiktok, then wattpad, then instagram, then youtube… and ppl can still use vpn as well. Countries should negotiate w these platforms and suggest new rules or better healthier algorithms banning isn’t doing anything if not it’s pushing dictatorship 🙄

it wasn´t my case (I'm a woman, straight, I guess the algorythm knew it) buttttt, I quit tiktok a year ago and today I LITERALLY was thinking "What if I install it again?" and now, you upload thisss, it felt like a sign from the universe, I guess I'll stay away from it for a little more. I used to love watching The Walking Dead edits, and from time to time tiktok used to recommend me videos of half naked men, I guess it's similar to these "hot tiktok girls"

It used to make me sooo happy when I watched TWD edits, but I also noticed that my attention span was FRIED and now I feel "like a normal person" I can do almost everything without distracting, is amazing When I miss TWD edits I search for them on pinterest or Instagram 🤣 not the same thing but I'm ok with that

Tiktok is pretty bad and I haven’t had it for a while, but I still fall into the same short-form content consuming ruts on Instagram and KZbin. But Tiktok definitely seems a lot more like digital/psychological warfare compared to the others.

I have instgram and also fall into those short-form content too but most of it is ice sakting videos and stuff I can learn from, or just funny videos. I don't see any sexualization reels, depression ones, or other bad ones i would have gotten on tiktok

the search bar pisses me off so bad😭😭whenever i search up certain things now, i get a few relative videos and then absolutely irrelevant videos few scrolls down. i have to KEEP scrolling just to find more videos relating to what i searched. 1) sometimes it’s a lot of people tagging their videos with specific tags unrelated to their video to get more clout. (this has been going on for years so i’m not in the least surprised, but it’s still annoying to see) but nowadays it’s not even that. it’s just completely irrelevant videos. 2) i need tik tok to bring back that seperate hashtag page they got rid of in 2022. it was truly godsend, and even if there were a couple unrelated videos, it still mainly had all related videos pertaining to the tag. (if you don’t know what this page looked like, think of the audio/sound page when you click on it. it has all videos under that sound and whatnot)

I've never downloaded tik Tok because I don't want to but Instagram is kinda like that in a way if you search up any girls name it's a bunch of thirst traps 🤦‍♂️. Instagram is trash too . KZbin is the last thing I'll tolerate because at least you have the choice to click on what you want to see

Often, when I’m on the tram or just walking down the street, I notice how everyone is absorbed by these small, glowing screens that seem to have become indispensable.
