Being able to pick skincare based on your own beliefs rather than affordability and accessibility is a privilege many don’t have. If Revolution Beauty is the best option for you for any reason, continue to use it. I know they make dupes of brands that aren’t available in certain parts of the world so that’s another reason to keep using if it works for you.

I agree with the sentiment but not necessarily the statement, I think there are plenty of companies that make products that are similar and an option could be found if the desire is there. I really love and appreciate the mention of availability and financial barriers because we need to keep that in mind when discussing ethics of who we buy from however I think that discussion is better placed for necessities like clothing. I think there is a privilege in both sides, it is a privilege to not care about a company, who they support and their beliefs and it is also a privilege to have the ability to walk away and choose something else. The difference between a dupe and what Revolution does is that a dupe is copying the effect, and Revolution is copying the 𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒂. They're interested in the objects not the results. Like their copying Manny's highlighters wasn't about making a highlighter that gave the same effect on your skin, they wanted a highlighter that looked like you bought it from Lunar Beauty. The products aren't dupes, they're replicas. Like a fake Chanel bag with the name spelled Chanal so it's not technically illegal.

That's actually down to those other retailers to remove the product. This isn't a defence of Revolution, but in this case you have a bunch of retailers who have a certain amount of units of this product already in stock and they're not necessarily going to pull it just because the brand does. That's a loss for them. So the other retailers are to blame for continuing to sell that product and its basically just because they don't want to lose out as a result.

The price point is sadly the biggest issue that keeps fast fashion in business. Most people can't afford to spend $50 - $100 per item for decent quality clothing. Now it's getting to the point where higher end fast fashion is outside of affordability for a lot of people(Target, H&M, etc.). As far as Revolution goes, I'm glad I haven't accidentally bought something to support them. Kind of sad that BH got bought by them since they had some cute, metallic eyeshadows.

The dupe talk is so true. When I started watching youtube back in the michelle phan days, a dupe was something that performed similarly to some iconic product without necessarily having even been created for that purpose. I totally agree about the dupes. They did a recent collab with Sali Hughes and according to her it was made with lots of input from her creatively, however the design is a total copy of the herbivore skincare range which is completely unfair. Either she just tagged her name onto their products without really paying attention, or she's as unoriginal as they are. It really bugs me when people do stuff like that.

I truly hate Revolution but unfortunately I'm one of those people who has no choice but to buy certain items from them. They're the only affordable brand that I can get super pale pink undertone foundation and concealer from, which thankfully last a decent amount of time so I don't have to repurchase too often. I won't buy any of their other products at all but until someone brings out a just as cheap, just as colour matched foundation for me, I'm stuck with them.

If it’s accessible to you and it’s the only place you can get the product that suits you then keep buying it! The CEO has officially stepped down now so I’m hoping there may be a lot of changes!
@KittyCat260 Жыл бұрын
@@JamesWelsh I do hope that will make a difference but I'm not sure if they'll really change their practices as a result... It might just be a case of changing the face for the sake of changing the reputation. Hopefully not and they'll make some effort in future to be a brand with more to offer than they do now.

There's such a privilege in not having to care or having the choice to not care about brands and what they support - so many companies fund homophobic or transphobic organisations. Obviously you'll care about racism if you face it everyday, and people should care. It is a privilege to not. ❤️

I have never heard of Pink Honey, although I live in the UK, but I assume it's because I don't use this type of lash product. It's heartbreaking to see how a big brand steals from small brands who have put their heart and savings to create a business. I hope they have trademarked it or relied on another IP right to prevent this copy paste of their products or at least to be able to defend their work in court.

Here is my unpopular opinion: the fact that they can sell copies for so cheap shows how overpriced the other brands are. I'm clearly not talking about the indie brands and the racist CEO is something else, but if copying others is unethical, so is working with such high profit margins. It is the ultimate disrespect for your customers, because it is insulting their intelligence. I don't agree with copying artistic work (like a package design or a campaign), but I actually believe that copying formula's is a good thing. Scientific achievements should be available for everyone, and I don't trust any chemist/lab tech/engineer that disagrees with this.

If it's any consolation the formulas of their eyeshadows are wildly variable, to put it kindly. I had a couple of palettes and some of the colours were genuinely very well pigmented, not terrible fallout, but some were very gritty and bland. Utterly pot luck which!

When you talk about dupes, you have to consider that those indie brand will never be sold on countries outside of north America, so people from latin America or Europe don't really have much choice but to buy their dupes and, hard as it sounds, are /really/ affordable and good copies.

Agree with a lot of this (racism and genuine property right infringements can’t be tolerated) but their business model in itself, ie. offering a wider range of lower quality products which are subsequently more accessible and affordable for many people (rather than specialising in a few) isn’t something that is objectively wrong or immoral xx

I have three of their palettes and they’re ok, the quality isn’t all there, that’s for sure. Soph’s is my favorite and I originally got it to support her. I have a baked bronzer that I love but now that I know about this I will not be repurchasing or buying any more from them! Why are all these brands so stupid and racist? There’s plenty of affordable brands that are better than Revolution so yeah, bye Revolution! Nice knowing you I guess.

Also some of y'all are missing the point completely of the lady saying that she won't buy the collection unless it's from a black-owned brand. The legacy of this legendary artist is being reduced to a fast fashion-esque makeup palette (what does Jimi have to do with it in the first place?), made by a white-owned brand that has an obviously racist CEO. Jimi is such an iconic pioneer of black music, and you do not have to be black to recognize that this is just insulting to his image.

I have never purchased from Revolution and I never will. The ONLY positive take I can put on this awful IP theft that goes on is some people will seek out the original and support them instead of the copy. There's a clothing brand I love, Monika The Label, who had one of her dresses ripped off by Shein if I remember right. I liked the dress so much that I went to her website and bought it from her. If brands are going to rip people off, the least I can do is support the indie brand they're copying.

Aside from the controversies, they're not even GOOD at what people "rave about" from them. The eyeshadow palettes are literally the same shades thrown together with no colour story whatsoever (just look at any of the disney princess palettes). Their photos on their website are trash quality as well - poor lighting and colour not reflective of real life shades. I could go on and on and on.....

I don’t want to see them go down- I use some staples by Revolution and I want to continue with these great products for the rest of my life - More recently I can’t keep up with the launches and they aren’t as good as the old ones. Their best products they should keep and focus on more are as follows::. Sophs eyeshadow palettes and highlighter palettes. Ultra Contour palette in powder format in black palette. Hot and spicy blusher palette. Conceal and define full coverage foundation. Cut crease canvas concealer. Skincare= Magic Cream. I don’t believe in cancel culture and I would like to see them learn, rebrand, and put out less new products so we can all keep up! I have thoroughly enjoyed some of their products and found them to be of high quality. However they are lost in a wash of new releases that are often sub par. I do love Revolutions best though! I wish them well and I thank them for giving me some cheap staples that I go back to time and time again. They do need to rebrand to survive though. The world is changing!

As a broke person who is currently 8 minutes into the video, their BHA dupe of paulas choice is amazing, honestly I think this is where these companies like beauty bay, revolution and beauty pie thrive. They make exact copies but more affordable because it shouldn't cost that much for a consumer, and lets face it the price tag on brands are just getting more and more out of hand. However, I was not aware about this reputation, glad you brought it to light. I am disappointed, but unfortunately, I'll probably still continue to buy their dupes simply because it is affordable.
