As someone who works at a bank- if you miss one payment, but have a good payment history- ask them to waive it. This works 90% of the time if you ask nicely. At least in the US. And registering to vote in the US doesn’t have credit scores like the UK

Can confirm it works in the UK. They do check that you do make your payments on time etc before they waiver the charges 😊

Better is not to have a credit score at all. here's how . Step 1. Pay off our credit cards in full. Step 2 Cut up all of your credit cards. Step 3 Write to all 4 of the major credit reference agencies telling them that you have checked your records and found errors. The fact that this is a lie does not matter. Step 4. The credit reference agencies will ask for details of the errors so that they can correct them. This request you MUST refuse. Remind them that knowing there are errors renders your rating useless as they cannot now ,knowing it has errors, sell that data on. Step 5 Demand that they resolve the issue by deleting all data they hold regarding you. Remind them to include any backup copies they have no matter where or in what format it is held. Step 6. Enjoy debt free living.
