This really resonated with me. I'm a UK-based doctor, didn't enjoy medical school at all and I can't see myself staying in medicine once I'm a consultant. I have a lot of issues in the way that our current healthcare system runs (we're OK for acute problems, chronic? Not so much). I've ordered a book on medical herbalism and am enjoying your videos :)

Happy I found this. I finished nursing school an something about it never resonated with me. I always wanted to become a naturopath but I had no idea about herbalism. Once I started working as a nurse, I knew there had to be more to healing and eventually I found a medicinal apprenticesip in my area which I am doing right now. So happy I found herbs!!! I feel the same. always loved the sciences and anatomy n wonders of the human body but i felt more drawn to herbal remedies and holistic healing. i do love traditional medicine but its not always the best for your health. i love ancient remedies and healing methods. we come from nature. our bodies full of all types of natural components so it only makes sense that our medicine be the same too.we need food from earth to sustain us so should the healing. so herbalism and other holistic healing practices always drew in my attention and favor.

It's probably good you left medical school. I have 4 family members that are doctors. My brother is a surgeon, his wife is a psychiatrist, my cousin is an OBGYN and I forgot what my aunt does, but I can honestly say, that the money, the recognition and wisdom didn't seem to make any of them happier. They spent all those years becoming doctors, and I don't see much gain from it other than the income. My brother became a doctor after having repeated health problems with his heart when he was 19. He was frustrated with the doctors and asked, "Where is the care in healthCARE." My mother said to him, "Well, why don't you do something about it." His face lit up, and at that point it was clear he realized his calling. He was always super smart, and often complained about being smarter than the people who raised him lol...

I left after first year.. long story, but I did not handle the stress of medical school well. It just wasn't at all what I expected it to be... not much CARE there at all honestly. Now I'm a nurse, but I still want to do more...

Bless you, Sophia! I love your story and your openness to share your story. My husband and I are opening a practice and I really resonate with getting away from what I call “Modern Tradition”. Healing starts within the body, not by addressing symptoms and disregarding the personhood of the patient. Healing isn’t only in the hands of a practitioner, but comes from being able to ask the right questions like, ‘what’s necessary for me to gain vitality?’ Not ‘How do I stop my symptoms?’ Empowering people to take control of their health and lifestyle is SO Necessary! Thank you for sharing, dear! ♥️

Doctors missed so many health issues for me like Chronic candida and a leaky gut which a nutritionist would have picked up on, i wish i knew about that years ago. I have suffered for 2 decades mentally and physically and docs even told me i was not anemic when my ferritin levels was 21, it should be 80-90! below 50 is unacceptable! and my legs felt like dead weights till i decided to treat myself and that changed. I treated myself for candida, leaky gut, low zinc, iron, Vit D, and iodine too as we are all low apparently and also developed a condition called Reverse T3 which doctors also don't diagnose or tell you about which causes Underactive Thyroid symptoms with negative results. This happens due to gut issues, stress and low zinc and selenium needed for hormone conversion from T4 into T3 from your Thyroid gland, instead it produces a dud form of T3 called Reverse T3 which i also treated myself for. I am also studying in nutrition and herbalism as from what i have learned to get well myself that most if not all health begins in the gut and what we put into our bodies and lack is making us sick. I think GPs must get no job satisfaction as many tests they do are inaccurate and they need to go back to the old ways of diagnosing by looking at a person for physical signs as many people will never get well. And more compassion would not go a miss! Good for you to see the light and choose Herbalism, i know you will make a lot of people happy!

Around 1996 I finally found a doctor that cared. He was young, a new doctor. I told him I wanted him as my primary care provider. He replied he wished he could be but he had given his notice to leave to the clinic where he was working. He said he was sad because he had paid a lot of money and spent a lot of time studying to be a doctor. In good conscience he was leaving the field because, he said, it was worse than fast food. He was sad, too, because he didn’t know what would become of his employment. He told me maybe he would go into research. I felt so badly for him. No doubt, with what we now know about research, he probably could not stand working in that big lie either. I wish I would have taken heed to his words because, ultimately, that clinic performed so badly they literally chop us up (and even kill people) from incorrect diagnosis so they can charge a lot of money to insurance. They don’t care. I hope the young doctor discovered herbalism, too, where there is honest healing and real peace. True gifts from God.

Hey @Sophia The Herbalist Im in my second to last semester in undergrad for marketing, but I have a love for herbal remedies and herbal preparations. Im at a point in my life that I am trying to decide what is next and I find myself always going back to natural remedies and herbalism. I want to know how can I become and herbalist. I keep fighting with it going back and forth, but i love learning about the properties of natural plants and elements of the earth and how they can be beneficial to the body. I am contacting you for a little direction. Thanks.

Sydney Everett hello my lovely! 😊 that sounds really good. The fact that it’s still on your heart to study it is a good sign. I think we all should be herbalists somewhat. Where do you live? I recommend maybe doing a mini weekend course or a day taster course and see how you like it. Then look for some courses nearby and go to a few open days xx

What herbalist program did you attend?

You come across as a natural healer Sophia. You might want to look up Tom Loud and/or Pete Cabrera Jr on youtube, you might be amazed. Good Luck.

I’m in nursing school right now and I want to leave to become a herbalist but I went into nursing school so I could get accepted into naturopathic school In the future. I want to start my own herbalist business online but I’m nervous of all the debt I would be in if I just left. What did you do to sustain your debt from nursing school?

Where did you go to get your training?? I want to become a professional medical herbalist as well but I cannot find the right school in Canada or the states. I'm thinking of moving to the UK for the training as all the informal I searched pointed to the UK. I'd appreciate the help!

YOU MAY EARN A LIVING DOING HERBAL PRACTICE BUT MAY NOT MAKE MONEY BECAUSE IS ALWAYS BASED ON CONSIDERATION, SYMPATHY, EMPATHY AND GIVING HUMANS SOLUTIONS TO THEIR PROBLEMS. MANY AFRICAN HEALERS OF OLD NEVER SENT CLIENTS BACK FOR LACK OF MONEY.

Hi, I live in Jamaica I really want to become a herbalist but no collage for that here what do recommend I do?
@robertuk20063 жыл бұрын
I know your question wasn't asked to me. I don't know much that much about Jamaica. Obviously being a small country, things are more limited study wise. Being a stranger, I know none of your personal circumstances. But if possible, try and follow your dreams. Perhaps move somewhere abroad one day to study? It is important to follow your dreams and passions. Herbalism is becoming increasingly appreciated worldwide and rightly so. I see a good future for it. Well worth studying.

@@robertuk2006 thank you so very much robbie you've brought tears to my eyes reading your message, I got a dream some time ago that I had a big field with all different types of herbs and I was helping the sick both rich and poor and I was doing it for free and it gave me great joy to do so. So thank you again I believe that your word came just in time to encourage my heart thank you. May the God of heaven bless you Robbie Aikman.

I live in Malta, a very small European island. We don’t have herbalist/naturopathy schools either. I honestly wasn’t planning on staying here, I’m aiming for the Netherlands or Finland. I know there will be courses there. How about learning abroad, and coming back to Jamaica after? Just make sure that the career is licensed in your country.

You could finish school and learn about herbs and natural medicine afterwards.
